Honestly I kind of love it. I love the shenanigans these players get up to, but sometimes it's also fun to have a scenario where it's like "Naw. The shenanigans won't save you." It helps that it was ultimately a big shenanigan on Brenan's part
I'm impressed that he put up with the incessant begging, bartering, haggling and sheer refusal to take "no" for an answer from a couple players (and eventually the whole table) without just snapping on them.
@mattbriddell9246 It was hilarious the moment the people who voted for "simultaneously" for the lulz realized "Oh shit, those are some actually serious consequences. We are messed up and blew most of our spell slots on fighting sex-bots" and immediately started trying to haggle and backtrack when realizing Brennan wasn't going to let them game the riddle.
I love Brennan unequivocally and unapologetically deciding that "Yes, and" does not exist in the Vulture Dimension. Just this once, NO, they're doing things HIS way 😆
I remember he said in the adventuring party before this episode that the vulture dimension does not exist on any line between good or evil, law or chaos. It solely is concerned with what is and isnt vulture
You can tell where Brennan was getting a little fed up- "Here's the thing. You keep offering other ways it's gonna work, and it's not gonna work any other way than the way I want it to." LMAO me too Brennan. Me too
My favorite part of this is the confidence Emily has in saying "A crisp $500 bill," something that is not used as currency in the world of Fantasy High, or in the real world either.
@@Harald20-00 did you have to push up your glasses while typing that? It's such a minuscule, meaningless difference between a bill being out of print vs. not legal tender.
The Vulture King is such a wholesome character. The providing options for riddle answering. The leaning in for the kiss. The very sweet way Brennan says "You passed!" Not to mention the whole riddle just being like "Don't you think vultures are neat?" I love this maybe a god so much 🥲 Honorable mention to the joy in everyone's face when they say "Yay!"
Much attention is rightfully being paid to how rigid the Vulture King/Brennan was about the rules of the riddle, allowing no shenanigans to derail the ultimate question, but remember that not only did the Intrepid Heroes vote to answer the riddle simultaneously, right before this clip starts the first question the Vulture King asks them is "Will you answer my riddle now or later?" All evidence points to him being a man (vulture?) of his word, which means it was fully within the players' capacity to have one person answer the riddle at a later time and they simply chose not to. Their fate was in their hands.
This is DND in it's most quintessential form. DM has a baby puzzle for babies that the players try to drastically overcomplicate for literally no reason except because they can.
Sometimes we fear all the possibilities. Like when a past DM introduced doppelgängers and changelings 💀 My table was afraid anyone could be the BBEG in disguise, so some of them were paranoid. After getting more experience as a player, I no longer panic this much. I had to learn to just trust my DM and enjoy the experience.
Every time Fig faces a decision, she always picks the most difficult one. And every time she realizes that the obviously difficult choice is, in fact, difficult, she’s always so surprised. Love that demongirl❤️
Peak D&D, the party decides to go all in on something funny and stupid (voting unanimously) throwing caution to the wind, then suddenly tries to weasel their way out of it because it sounds scary again XD.
The DM trying to just do a really simple, funny little joke and the players thrashing against it with everything they have is the most relatable DM experience I've seen
My favorite part is they have the battlemap for the vulture king and dimension ready because they could ABSOLUTELY fuck up the riddle if they didnt get out the chaos with that simulatenously choice
This is the kind of bit that me, as a DM, would have gone complete theater of the mind for. Not even a 2D map in Roll20 lol. The work they put into this is crazy and appreciated.
It was kind of necessary. Zac mentioned at the end of the episode before this one that he initially felt that Brennan had to bend the rules to save their battle - so showing that the Vulture Dimension existed all along and wasn't just a scramble to help them out was rewarding.
that was riz if watching starstruck has shown me anything it's that murph can be just as chaotic and loves it as much as emily and the rest but generally has to play straight man
Brennan could have created a dimension based on literally any animal they've ever interacted with, but you know he's gonna to choose a bird for his [Animal] Dimension.
The Vulture King ie basically the ultimate example of "The Party gets Distracted" from the first time a vulture shows up in season one. I felt like it was literally set up to just mess with the party's indecision and impulse control, caus boi did it do it.

the fact that there was SO much time spent trying to game the simultaneous riddle answer thing and got completely shut down on every scheme

Well.... yes and no. It gave them time to sort through their intrusive thoughts
Brennan really said, "I need a way to tell them "No" a bunch of times without making it unfun (for my own sanity)".

the hardest "no" Brennan as a DM ever dealt in D20 and i was not disappointed
I'm a teacher, and the way Brennan has to keep repeating his instructions is very familiar to me
I'm not a teacher but it is still incredibly familiar 🤣
I was trying to figure out what i had felt that energy before and this illuminated it!

Peak D&D, the party decides to go all in on something funny and stupid (voting unanimously) throwing caution to the wind, then suddenly tries to weasel their way out of it because it sounds scary again XD.
I think I'm going to hear a little yay whenever I see a vulture from now on
Brennan is getting his revenge
Oddly this felt like Game Changer revenge. Brennan's turn at being the Riddle Master lol. I also kinda picture the vulture kind being played by Sam.
The DM trying to just do a really simple, funny little joke and the players thrashing against it with everything they have is the most relatable DM experience I've seen
If them trying to find a loophole and Brennan shutting it down was the whole episode I would have been fine with it.
This gives teaching a small group energy. Full on chaos.
My favorite part is they have the battlemap for the vulture king and dimension ready because they could ABSOLUTELY fuck up the riddle if they didnt get out the chaos with that simulatenously choice
brennan pulling out the yes or no and coming full circle
One of the vultures is actually a roseate spoonbill
All of that build-up to THAT RIDDLE oh my lord, that's amazing.
Emily's absolute glee at hearing the terms of her chaotic ass choice is delightful
All that lead up just for “vultures: yay or nay” 💀 Brennan is so done
This is the highlight of Gorgug's day for sure 😂
Anything to get away from his parents sex robots
It could only go uphill from where it was!
SIMULTANEOUSLY
AND UNANIMOUSLY
Even after learning what the riddle was, I still think these goofs had a chance of dying
I love how Brennan’s attempt at messing with the team is naturally drawn out by the team and turns into messing with him.
THIS WAS SUCH A FUN LITTLE SCENE IT MADE ME LAUGH SO MUCH
Only Brennan and the bad kids could pull this off so well!
3:48 "Y'all really don't get it, do you. I'm not putting up with your crap for once! Now, vultures! Yea or nay?"

0:41 I can't tell whether that was Murph or Riz making that statement
The answer is yes
Riz Gukgak momentarily disappeared and the actual man Brian Murphy materialised into the Vulture Dimension
that was riz if watching starstruck has shown me anything it's that murph can be just as chaotic and loves it as much as emily and the rest but generally has to play straight man
It doesn't matter what the alignment says on the sheet. Every player is chaotic.
I thought the riddle was “will you elect one answer or will you all answer simultaneously”
And then just watch as everyone dives into chaos
This clip gives me flashbacks to EVERY game I have ever run.
Riz is so done with his friends 😂😂😂
"You guys're gonna say something weird and the vulture's gonna kill uuuus!" the pleading is real.
God I love that Brennan knows when to not bend at all to player insistence 😆 Matt could really learn an important lesson here
Lou’s “oh so he’s into it?!” After Emily kissed the vulture though XDDD
Beardsley the Betrayer voting for simultaneous killed me

The vulture king explaining rules is Brennan's Trump but way smarter.
The first test was a fake test, and you just passed the real test.
