It’s nice to see what the TC-01 chassis looks like. Actually and a bit ironically, I wanted to build one for my first hobby-grade RC and drift car project as a bit of a tongue-in-cheek joke because many people say “fOrMuLa E iS lIkE wAtChInG rC cArS gOiNg ArOuNd A tRaCk”. Kinda glad and yet bummed I didn’t. I settled on a TT-02 instead because it was more well-known and better supported. But man, what a beautiful chassis!
Oh No, I am in Love with the chassis already , was just watching the guys abroad using them in on road racing and they seem to handle as if on rails and man they look great too, Well Glenn this looks like its on the christmas list for this year he he , and what a body shell - that part i wont look forward to as that's going to really test my skill and more so, my paitence lol will but definitely enjoying this build so far ,Thanks again for yet another amazing kit build :-)
Love the video of course Glen, I have to say I am excited to see the next video. I love the chassis but the formula E body is just weird looking to me. You always have such a great take on your paint and stickers so I am excited to see what you do I might come around on the body, we will see.
Thats one heck of a pretty chassis Glen! Totally different from what were used to mate! I agree, it's exceptional! Really enjoyed the build mate! Thanks! Wes, Liverpool UK.
You usually want the front wheels toed out at rest on a four-wheel drive RC. This is so that under acceleration when the wheels pull forward and remove slack from the system they are basically pointing straight. If you start with them straight at rest you're going to end up with a bunch of toe in under acceleration in the front which is not going to be ideal.
Finished building mine up yesterday. There are a couple of areas where you have to be careful, the front and back end are mostly the same, except you use different number of washers. Also the shims in the diff, I saw elsewhere that you should omit the 0.1mm shims when building new (the manual has a note to fit them to adjust clearance). Finally, I found it odd that the springs are too short to fully extend the dampers, so will actually be fully extended with some play (using the recommended spacers, both front and rear). The body will be a separate project, takes up more than half the box with all the different pieces!
Cool stuff!! Im looking at that one too, but I have the TA06 PRO, so I kind of wait with this TC-01... Looking forward to the running video! Happy RC' eeing ;-)
Thanks for the video! I've been curious as to how you'd feel about the TC01, and perhaps one day when you get to run it and compare to other touring chassis. It was one of the first few Tamiya kits I built and it did feel precise. Luckily, I haven't popped the drive shafts yet (running on a 10T motor). I agree, it has quite a tight tub and has some heft. But I think the chassis design looks beautiful without a shell. Seems like the TD4 Super Avante borrowed some of the front suspension design. Thanks again and hope to see what you do next with it.
I built this same car and went a bit overboard. I put bearing throughout the car including a tiny one for the steering. Not a single bearing in my car. It was my favorite build. I preordered this car when it was first announced. It’s a beautiful car. Also put a light in the back to simulate the real car. The body shell was very complex and I shudder to think what it would feel like if I hit something lol. I have only driven the car one time and very gingerly at that.
Great video Glenn. Strange why tamiya have not yet released any other cars on that chassis as it has been available for a while now. Maybe they just give you the option by including the various mounts etc
Just finishing a TB05R a lot of this is very familiar I almost went with a TC01 for my next TC but decided to stick with the conventional suspension setup of the TRF420 used on the TB05R and it just came with more race spec upgrades out the box. Something to note how it’s so low slung you could almost drive it with the chassis upside down this is a thing on a lot of the current generation of Touring Cars not just Tamiya but the Mugen MTC2, A800, BD10 etc. gone are the days of shock towers peaking above the top of the wheels
Hi I really like your channel, I'm like most of people our age and grew up mucking around with rc cars. I have a tamiya madcap I'm getting back on the road for my son and the diff is slipping really bad. Do you have any pointers on where to get parts for these old cars?
From your test I could tell that your tires were not yet glued, which is a good thing because the two on the right side are mounted backwards on the wheels :)
I agree that it looks so much better with the body off! I actually took a full year of admiring the assembled chassis before I finally mounted the body. Then I immediately tore off the stock body and turned mine into a rally car, which suits this chassis SO much better than Formula-E.
Thanks Keith 🤩 Yeah I can’t wait for the TD4 to arrive although I’m on the clock with it, as it looks like the snow will be here by the time it arrives 😤

This is one of my most stared at chassis’s it’s got lines that are so right it’s a "thing of beauty" I took my wiring long around the servo and back it makes it easier to change pinion gears when required Please note:- if you are using standard dog bones you are better off fitting the steering limiters as seen in the back of the manual

I had to shim the rear diff differently than what was in the instructions. It fixed the issue.
@@superjimnz Hi James. I believe you are referring to shims BC8 on Step 22; inside the Diff. Seems there are lots of shims used in this kit. For my issue, I was referring to the BC6 shims (.2mm), also on step 22. The manual shows 2 on the Diff Housing B side and 1 on the À side.
