I don't know how you manage to make me feel like I'm still learning new things even when you're pointing out stuff I already knew, but I appreciate it so much.
Yooo I was so happy seeing this upload and immediately watched all of it! Soon I will introduce my wife to Lost... and lead her down the cascading waterfall of trickery and mystery.
The madness starts so early! Many hints are only recognizable upon a rewatch. I showed the show to my brother recently and in the very first episode there's a hint toward the eventual time shenanigans! When Jack, Kate, and Charlie return to the plane and meet the pilot, Jack tells the pilot that they crashed 16 hours ago. The disoriented pilot says "16... ... ..." Without specifying the unit of time. In the second episode, Sayid calculates that Danielle Rousseau's French transmission has been going out for 16 years. You would only even notice this if you were taking note of the numbers. Remember the numbers! They appear randomly throughout the show, even in unexpected places like Desmond's order number at Hurley's chicken restaurant being 42.
On the long con: in some ways, the long con is the underlying theory that informs the whole show. It's a representation of the fate vs free will theme in a bottle form. Everyone thinks they are making their own decisions, but you can argue it was all set up in a grand tapestry by the island, fate, a god, Jacob, the show runners, whatever, but in a way that made them think they had agency. The choice of whether that's true or not is up to the viewer. I love this show so much!
Another great episode summary and analysis as usual. Many things I forgot or never noticed even upon viewing the episode a number of times. Despite the show being off the air for 15 years it still seems fresh to me. Looking forward to Episode 9.
What a nice way of ending the year, a new video on Lost from the best channel! I must confess Sawyer has always been my favorite character. I also think that I have never seen a love scene as hot and loveable anywhere else than the one between him and Kate in the cages in season 3, omg !
In the show, all characters were shipping sawyer-Kate . Lock (do you want to her come back) , Hurley (something in your eye Hugo & winks) , Jin ( winks ) , sun (do you want to watch him) , Bernard (saying Juliet to stay for tea) . Claire (making coffee) Ben... & many others, it was like every one wanted to these two be together .
Sawyer is my favourite character arc because of that change from him being a dick to becoming a hero. I loved watching him change the most out of everyone. It was beautiful actually to see him start out so self-centered but then gradually change into a better person who cared about others. It felt earned.
I always thought Josh Holloway would end up being a huge movie star after Lost. But he really hasn’t done much. I loved the cyborg show he did but it got canceled. I never watched the other show he did.
I watched Holloway in Colony, which was co-created by Carlton Cuse. He was a really good lead in it and it was a solid show but it never quite found its footing despite the concept of an alien occupation being very cool. It got cancelled at the end of Season Three, so it is left frustratingly incomplete.
The asthma story is definitely, like you said, one of the many network television stories of the early phase of season 1. I wonder if the reason why they decided to answer/bring back the asthma inhaler in season 6 was due to the skit they did with Jorge Garcia on Comic-Con 2009. He came up on stage, pretending to be one of the fans in queue and asked whether or not this would be resolved in the final season. Fans laughed, since it was the least thing on our minds, and they probably gave it to a scene with Jorge for fun since they remembered this humorous bit.
I had totally forgotten about that! In that case it probably was intended as a little in-joke. It wouldn't be the first time they threw in a wink to the audience like that. Great catch!
Most of the actors from the show barely get work. I think it’s by choice. Michael is doing great on the show From. Kate did well in the Ant Man movies and Locke was good on The Ones Who Live.
I love that as Sawyer reads more books, the nicknames he gives to the other survivors level up into literary references. When Locke wants to lead an expedition further into the jungle, Sawyer calls him "Kurtz." Kurtz is the main villain of Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness, a classic novel that inspired Apocalypse Now among many other works. Kurtz is an imperialist who leads expeditions into the jungles of Africa to extract resources and viciously brutalize the natives. In the end Kurtz dies a murderous madman, driven mad by his ambition and willingness to sacrifice any semblance of humanity to achieve his goals. Sawyer was SO RIGHT about Locke!
In many ways I can relate to James. Not from losing my parents or from being a con man. But I do have many things in common with him, I often find I don’t care about society or what others want me to do, it's a thing I have always had and no matter how much people try to make me conform I simply cannot and will not. It's probably why I don’t like Jack or Hurley as people that much, because both express they want others to conform to their system and ideologies whereas James does no such thing. Note: I’m not some anarchist but I am all for freedom from the corrupt and stressful system most of us are forced to live in.
On my most recent rewatch of the show, I began to wonder if Sawyer fell for the role of the "bad guy" as he knew that someone was going to be "that guy" anyway. This idea goes well with the self-punishing, but also give a little more nuance to his attitude towards Shepard.
Good old #15. Sawyer was flawed enough to be relatable. Kate and Jack and Locke's skills were harder to relate to. Sawyer was just clever and charming. He's the Batman of Lost lol.
@LOSTEXPLAINED108 that's a great comparison too. He would probably have made a great guardian of The Island. I kinda get why he left but I wish he stayed.
True….like all the bad things happened to me recently, break up from a woman with lots of loss of money, car broken down, then uncle dying. It all led me to curse out my boss, which lead me to this exact moment in time. I recently got a gig at panda express plus might be able to go back to my other job but well see we shall see
Beware that my videos tend to spoil plot points for the entire series. In this one alone I talk about moments from Season Six and the overall direction of the series. So if you don’t want to know what is coming up then avoid this channel until you finish the whole show. 🙏
@LOSTEXPLAINED108 I've just gone back to your earlier videos & will walk through hopefully not ruining it for myself lol. I'm not too fussed on spoilers tbh & I understand If I choose to watch then that's entirely up to Me. I'm thankful I found your channel. I was trying to find reviews but videos were scarce so thank you.
You mean Sawyer going from most hated to most loved character? Yes, the character development is part of that but there are multiple factors which I discuss in the video. Give it a watch and see what you think 👍
Sawyer was my favoutite character from the start but it was obvious why he was like the way he was , i hated how cheesy and goofy he became around season 3 though , loved seeing him happy feeling part of the group and finally belonging like when they got the camper van runnning but his character also got a bit too cheesy and now watching lost again, i think its just the way he chose to play it... That often happens with actors, after a few years they cant find whatever it was that they initislly found to play the part ., very underrated actor though his acting never dropped in quality , jack might of been " Better" But he was just as much of an arsehole in his own way , massive ego and control issues
I love you and this channel but it will take approximately 10 years to cover the entire series at this pace. If this is the plan nw cos I'll be watching lol.
Yes, it’s going to be a long term project for sure. I wish I could go faster and drop a few videos every month but it just takes time to script, record and edit a single video, then sometimes TH-cam’s copyright system holds my videos in limbo for 30 days until they get cleared. So, one a month is as good as I can get it right now. That’s not to say that won’t ever change - I might start making the videos shorter in length (maybe 15 mins) so they can be completed in a faster turnaround. The best way to look at this schedule for now is that every month for the foreseeable future you will get a cool LOST related treat. It will be something to look forward to and to savour. I know we live in the instant gratification age, and I worry that one guide a month will put people off starting it at all, but once I have covered all of Season One I’m sure more fans will start bingeing through the guide and investing in long term interest in the project. In a meta way, the channel gets to stay true to the old school drip-feed spirit of LOST, where we had to wait patiently for new episodes. I’m hoping that people stay invested in the channel 🙏
@@LOSTEXPLAINED108 "In a meta way, the channel gets to stay true to the old school drip-feed spirit of LOST" haha that's so accurate ! Please no writers strike ! The YT content system is a nightmare. I really enjoy hearing you break down the show so however long it takes I'm down, bud.
Dont stop the channel, lost is forever the goat
my heart is filled with so much joy and excitement every time i see this page has posted a new video. thank you. doing gods work
Sawyers character arc is the greatest in television history. It is so fucking well done.
It is Josh Holloway who makes Sawyer. That glint in his eyes. That’s why I named one of my kittens Sawyer.
I don't know how you manage to make me feel like I'm still learning new things even when you're pointing out stuff I already knew, but I appreciate it so much.
I love your LOST videos. Though roughly half the things you explained I already understood, you have given me new insights.
I love this show and this channel. Thanks for making these and letting us re-experience this amazing show.
I love Sawyer's arc. Looking forward to seeing the Getting Lost documentary

Forgotten to mention: whatever the case, the important thing is ultimately that it happened. It's such a simple idea, but so beautiful.
@@jsh357 As once great philosopher by the name of Dr Seuss said: "Don't cry because it's over, be happy because it happened"
When he killed Sawyer, he became James.

Been waiting for this one!!
I already feel terribly late to the party. So glad the next breakdown is out!
Another great video and episode. I always like Sawyer, even when he was being an asshole. lol. Maybe, before I pass, Sawyer will give me a nickname.

He was the main character in two dramas and another is coming out soon. I think he’s interested mainly in his family.

I think that’s what Kate liked about him. Jack was too righteous and judgemental at times while Sawyer respected Kate’s freedom to explore.

Sawyer has the best character development in the entire cast and that's not just my opinion, that's a fact.
I was just talking about this last night
have you seen the "getting lost" documentary? its now on amazon and id love to hear your thoughts on it.
In real life Sawyer should go to prison for murder and all his cons. But in tv land I love him.
And in TV land, you see his origin, and what happened to him as a kid humanizes him so much. He's a straight up murderer but he's very complicated.
Who on the show isn’t a murderer or hasn’t killed somebody ? Hurley.
@@robinmendelson5512 Well, if it counts, Hurley killed those people cause he was too heavy….
@@robinmendelson5512Even Hurley killed one of the others by running him over with the Dharma bus.
