    Great video Roger !
    One tip I always mention to people is while you are on the ramp make sure you headlights are off , if you have ever tried to back a boat down a ramp in the dark and the car in the next lane has their lights on you will know it is impossible to see where you are going .
    Another thing I always do is the day before I go I start the motor ( on the flushing ears - so not running dry !) this ensures it will start and if I can’t get it running at home I don’t go out -I have forgotten how many times I have seen someone holding up the proceedings at the ramp while they try to get a dead motor going 😡. I don’t remove the chain but I do loosen the shackle pin - I have seen a boat slide off a trailer half way down the ramp because the winch cable snapped !

    Hi Roger. One tip for newbies or people that have difficulty in reversing is once you have positioned vehicles to begin reversing, is to place your hand at the bottom of the steering wheel, then if you want go go left or right with the trailer, then you move the steering wheel hand left or right. It is a far easier method until one becomes accomplished at reversing. I hope that may help someone.

    You forgot the golden rule of reversing - only turn your wheel a quarter of what you would do when steering normally - the smallest moves are amplified due to rear wheel steer! It’s worse the smaller the trailer - larger trailers give you more opportunity to correct yourself! 👍

    I always run my winch down the trailer before I reverse then as I pull the boat onto the first roller I can tie the boat to the winch post then walk down a hook the winch on without the risk of the boat moving

    Gday mate i was told that when using a painter line it is helpfull to have a cleat on the rear of the boat to attach the line too this gives you ease of manouver when taking the boat to the end of the dock ,i have used this method many times and it is a help . When the wind is up trying to get the boat on straight can be a frustrating excercise but eventually youll get it someone may even offer to help most boaties are good people and know the problems you can encounter when launchng and retrieving . Reversing is a nightmare sometimes you can get flustered very quickly and it pays to go on a quiet day and practice if you can ,even now i can get it totally wrong and ive been boating for over 14 years the answer is CALM DOWN and start again stuff anyone else who are shaking their head or throwing there hands in the air im sure they have made mistakes too but will probably never tell you about them .

      @@RogerOsborneFishing No problems mate i just found it really easy to manouver the boat at the docks by using it you have full control over the boat and just walk it down to the mooring cleat the ramps get pretty busy sometime and people get impatient real quick .

    How do you go about driving a tiller steer onto a trailer

    • @RogerOsborneFishing
      @RogerOsborneFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Visibility is no good sitting down, you need to stand up. It takes a bit of practice.

    Great vid but here we have no such fancy jetties to tie onto. You have to let the boat go, go park your truck and trailer, then go swim for the bloody thing while the current takes it away...

    • @RogerOsborneFishing
      @RogerOsborneFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ha Ha that's funny! Could you just pull your boat onto the shore while you park? Boat ramps vary greatly, some are a challenge.

      @@RogerOsborneFishing Nah it's just rocks and nasty stuff. Best to give a good push, then swim for it. I've now got a little 14ft fiberglass jon boat to play around with during the rainy season, am building a floating jetty for that. Tide can go up or down by 5 meters here; it's crazy

    You forgot to tell every one to KEEP THE SAFETY CHAIN ON UNTIL THE BOAT IS IN THE WATER AND PUT IT ON AS SOON AS YOU HOOK THE WINCH STRAP AND PULL UP THE RAMP.
