    I’ve got a queen tracks myself it’s a great motor and are used to have an even read but I’ve got a 15 Merc on it at the moment but personal preference which console boats is probably an early craft pop had an early craft 610 coastal with the 140 Suzuki and let me tell you that handled like better than any boat that I’ve driven and I’ve driven a few boats now and they’re all at multiple different brands so my recommendation is either Quinn tracks but most of all Ali craft

    That's a good tip, of course if the wind is blowing lateral you may have a tussle, still even then it should work. I face a similar situation, no dock parallel to the boat when I put her in. But the other difference is pretty cold water and a steep drop off. What I just saw, which is pretty cool is a custom welded boarding ladder--welded to the trailer tongue. You back the boat down, get it very close to the float off point--be damn sure you have first emergency brake, backed up by park gear position--I put in a chock too. Then climb the tongue to the ladder, your weight insures the bow is pinned down as you mount the bow. Then back out normally, and never need to get wet. In warm conditions, that isn't needed but where I launch, it is a good idea. Then again, I do try to avoid boating alone whenever possible.

I agree, I probably wouldn't walk around the back with the motor running (whether in gear or not), but other than that there are a few good tips here. You also should never walk behind the motor like that in shallow water - running or not. One good wave will pick that boat up and drop the prop right down on your leg or foot. A really good wave will push the boat on top of you and drag you under it. Dangerous practice all around.

    All well and good with a self centering roller trailer. Standard bunkers are much more difficult to use. Also is this not an aluminum boat (much lighter than fiberglass or obviously wood).
    I would strongly suggest he put a line on the boat in case the winch strap parts or otherwise fails.

  • @timothydowd2330
    @timothydowd2330 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Now, I favor bunkers basically because I've always used them. Why and are roller trailers better? It looks like the keel hits the trailer pretty good on some retrievals.

    I think its a good video, however although the motor is in neutral,I would be a little apprehensive doing that, and its not easy for me as I have a bilateral knee replacement,it's the hardest thing I have to do is bring the boat back on the trailer,especially down here in Shoalhaven Heads we get a lot of N/East winds about 11:30., but I am working on making it easier by working on the trailer set up...after watching this a few times, I noticed that you did not have a cut out wrist strap,no life jacket...and that running motor????...a little Gang Ho for me, although taking the boat off and on is good, but as a previous Safety Officer many years ago I would have to fail you,no offence intended, but accidents do happen.

  • @onanysundayaustralia

    Nothing wrong with what he did , when your on your own and its windy best thing to do is start the motor so you know it's going, nothing worse than pushing the boat out and then having trouble starting the motor with wind blowing you could end up on rocks or banging into another boat.

    Darren, what's the going rate to change bearings at Caloundra Marine? And repairing rust. Why don't you explain to people that putting the bearings under will stuff the bearings / brakes / wheels? No matter how well you wash them. Most people won't know to check their bearings regularly so will end up standing by the highway wondering wtf went wrong when a trailer wheel falls off. Living the dream!

    • @brucegillespie5130
      @brucegillespie5130 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you should explain to people why the side rails on a Busta are so important too - i.e. so you can stand up in a seaway and not fall out of the boat. Not too many new buyers will understand that and the Busta is a much better boat with them.

    There was a time when boat trailers had outriggers. Retrieving a boat from the beach was a doddle because the outriggers helped centre the boat. Should still have them today. Especially in queensland, where the government hates building good launch facilities.

    With an Evinrude on the back I would have expected him to change his top containing a Suzuki on his back.
    I do not agree that a boat with an OUTBOARD or an OUTDRIVE at the back, is gutless. Far from it. In fact you have absolute control with an outboard/outdrive at the back as it goes where you steer it when going back. When going forward , unless one has a bow thruster, in the wind the bow will drop with the wind. Now with an inboard engine and normal rudder, true enough the boat is gutless, unless of course one has a bow thruster where when in reverse one could steer with the bow thruster.
    With an inboard and a shaft drive I often use reverse and to correct I go ahead in bursts with the right rudder application and then back to reverse. It works and it is not gutless at all. With Twin inboard engines one can go sideways too applying a combination of reverse on one engine , and forward on the other with a selection of rudder control. One has to concentrate but it can be done. Yes I did say SIDEWAYS.

    • @youturd8794
      @youturd8794 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If you were listening and watching the video closely you would have noticed when the driver was referring to "reversing" being gutless he was talking about the situation from 2:10 onwards, firstly, he is in very shallow water so the motor is trimmed to the point where only the water intake is submerged which leaves the engine tilted relatively high. Secondly, in that position forward thurst has more "bite" in the propeller due to the simple fact that the prop is grabbing water from infront as opposed to reverse which it would be grabbing BOTH water & AIR due to the fact its tilted skyward, hence in relation to his situation he correctly terms it "gutless".
      Not until 3:35 does he indicate the engine is being trimmed down, and yes at that point a outboard is NOT gutless in reverse.
