Lloyed! you mentioned it really quickly, but how was your gap year? What were your motivations behind it, and did it affect job prospects? I'm considering a post-grad gap year, so it's always nice to see folks who made it work!
I'm dating a lawyer and I'm more a feeling type. Sometimes I feel it's a drawback that he defaults to seeing things in an obtuse or distant/just the facts perspective. I also love this about him bc it's different from my line of thought and helps me but it can be difficult depending on the subject matter. Don't know if it's the trade or not but that's what I account that trait to.

Have been subscribing you two for a while and really love your content, another great video as usual. However, would you mind if I ask Lloyd a question about the profession? As the beginning of the video, i see that Lloyd didn't start working right away after graduating from law school and had 1 gap year as well as another 2 years studying LLM. My question is you just only started working after finishing LLM and had no experience with law beforehand? I am a fresh law graduate in Vietnam and considering to start LLM aswell without much practical experience, that's why I'm really concerned about the LLM and the career path after achieving it. It would be my pleasure if you can answer it and thank you in advance >
The LLM was one year, and I took the gap year after. I signed my contract before the LLM started, but most offers for work in Hong Kong are delayed by a couple of years (similar to the UK) based on the ordinary recruitment timetable.

Hi Em and Lloyd! Wanted to add another point here too. Some people would rather not marry or even date lawyers because they feel that lawyers would ruin them financially should a divorce occur in the future.😅Do you agree or disagree with this?
That being said, do you know any lawyer couples (who are from the same practice areas) who had to be on the opposing sides of a trial? It's a curious question that none of my lawyer friends seem to be able to answer as both are in different areas of law.
We can understand how it might seem like a lawyer, who has knowledge of the legal system and the extent to which they can potentially abuse it, might possibly act in bad faith if things go south. That said, as we mentioned in the video, it all comes down to the person and their character - just because someone is trained in a certain way doesn't mean they'll act poorly because of it.
Re: the second question, yes! I (Lloyd) had to remove myself from a matter relatively early on in my career because Em's team was on the other side of it, and it was a contentious litigation matter. Usually for contentious matters, and sometimes for transactions, one party would recuse themselves due to potential conflict of interest.
Dating a lawyer will effectively make you an even better lawyer. For example, when you had a litigation matter, you were able to call your wife and ask a direct question and she sign posted you to different resources. To me, that is streamlining research, saving the client money in billable hours whilst meeting their business needs. Furthermore, you have added value to the business by adding a new process/know how.
I have a question please, if you don't mind me asking it. When it comes to family planning, how are you going to take parental leave, raise a family around two full time employed people. You dont have to asnwer this one. I am just curious, I am current in law school and I was just trying to figure out what my situation could look like.
