  • Changing the setup on my FWB800FT from HFT to FT.
Featuring a Rowan Engineering adjustable hamster and a FalconX50 10-50x60 scope with a 140mm John Harris sidewheel. Sidewheel is so big I had to move the cocking lever over to the left as the hinge on the opposite side would hit the sidewheel.
    Awesome rifle.

Hi there, this is a novice question I guess, but it got me very surprised to see the weights put directly over the barrel.
My first guess was that they'd be put elsewhere at the front to help "steer" the minimal recoil but never over the barrel, which in doing so would bend down, right?
But now I see them being installed right at the barrel and I wonder if it had anything to do with harmonics, but then again, why not have them in the HFT version?
And lastly, maybe it is a sleeve and the barrel is happily floating inside?
Sorry if my questions are way too novice, but it's the only way to learn :)

Hi, that’s a good question. The barrel weights don’t effect accuracy at 55yds with this rifle so I’m guessing it doesn’t have much effect on barrel harmonics, although I’m aware it can do.the barrel is bonded into the stainless steel sleeve and is not floating. For prone shooting in HFT the balance with the original lighter aluminium muzzle break was fine. When sitting in an FT position I prefer more weight at the front as it stops me tipping back. If you look at 10m Olympic shooters using the 10m version of this rifle they sometimes have weighted muzzle breaks but don’t use the type I have. I used this drop on type as the barrel is short and sits on top of the air cylinder. Thanks

@@dkjngl1 I won't ever be doubting Feinwerkbau, but are you saying that, not only is the barrel non floating, but also I see two or more points of attachment to the frame?
I have so little experience that I can only rely on the theory, and until now, my understanding was that the breech should be the only point of attachment of the barrel.
Well, the more I know :) and I guess there is a point where random factors outweight the effects of controlled factors, thus rendering the excesive control over said factors, useless and obsessive :)
      Thanks for your detailed answer

Yep that’s right. Quite a few golds have just been won at the ISSF world championships in Baku with Feinwerkbau’s in the last few weeks. The proof’s in the pudding.

hi...I have an FWB 800ft...love it except the awful looking muzzle! I notice your barrel weights ...why 2? Does that make up the weight of the standard muzzle or could I just have the front one? Whilst on that subject, where did you buy them?...cheers :)

Hi, there’s a discussion on a previous comment about the barrel weights, they are for balance when I shoot FT.
They are steel and heavier than the aluminium original. You can just fit one but they will bring the rifles balance point further forward.
Pretty sure I got them from Intershoot but they only have a black Walther branded one now.
      Cheers

Got one need to fit quick fill but how ?

I ordered one from Ratworks and fitted it myself. V. Hard to get old gauge/cylinder end off. Had to make a tool. Might be easier to send the cylinder to Ratworks and get them to fit it

So the end with the gauge unscrews anti clock wise

Yes mate, but the cylinder is only thin aluminium so you have to be careful how you secure it. There are a couple of flats on the cylinder head but you’d need a spanner around 5mm thick. I made one from some plate aluminium.

I've heard bad things about the 800X FT. I'm afraid to buy.

@@user-bm7lv7vw3f the power drops a bit once the hammer spring settles, but then you just screw the power screw in to bring it back up and it’s perfect. Not many people have them in the U.K. so not much genuine feedback tbh.
