- There are so many elements that go into today's Field Target Air Rifle's; precision instruments, able to place a small peice of lead downrange onto the same spot, time after time.
So what are these elements, what advantage do they bestow on the competitive FT/HFT shooter - if any? And where can you find them?
In this Vid I'll be giving you a walk-around of my current FT rig, which has taken me 7 years to bring together; breaking it down into it's component parts and explaining why you might want to consider something similar for your own set up.
So join me as we delve into what makes a competitive modern Field Target rifle! Enjoy 😊
Who am I:
A shooter from an early age, I got my first airgun for my 9th birthday and have been hooked ever since. I started shooting Field Target competitively at 14 and by the time I was 18 I had won numerous national competitions. In 2004, at the ripe old age of 28, I won the WFTF World Field Target Championships.
I remain an active FT shooter and am still (somehow) managing to qualify for the England team. But I’ve also expanded my interests in recent years, shooting 10m Air Rifle at club and County level and also obtaining my Fire Arms Certificate and dipping my toe into the murky waters of .22 Rimfire and Smallbore shooting generally.
This channel covers all of these disciplines and hopefully more, charting my experiences and I’d like to think occasionally imparting the bit of useful knowledge and tips along the way. Enjoy! 😊

There are some lovely pieces of kit on the cicuit and no two alike, which i think makes FT pretty unique 👍🏻
All I ever hear is barrel bands- barrel bands; you can't beat a FREE FLOATING barrel for accuracy.
The anschutz has an amazing trigger. I love shooting my 9015.
Im running the 4k in mine now from the 9015. So crisp mate 👌🏼

TBH Ive just gone with a cable tie with a hole drilled in it and a bit of chenille - it doesn't get heavy when wet like wool would.

The rods from the back of the alutech to the Gemini base plate are genuine Anschutz parts - the extra long (110mm?)
The extra 'wing' extensions on.the Gemini are, again, genuine parts; ive tried aftermarket parts but as its only a friction fit, they usually cant take the weight/tension, and end up slipping.

I have a Hawke sidewinder ED 10-50x60. Im very tempted to get a sitron
The Hawke's are decent glass for the money but a Sightron or similar would be a step up in class when it comes to rangefinding imho.
@theinsideedge0707 ah right ok, so on my ED its 1/4 MOA i see alot of people running 1/8 MOA in FT. Do you have any experience shooting 1/8 MOA
Mine is 1/4 MOA.
The difference between 1/4MOA and 1/8 MOA at 50 yards is roughly 1.5mm. I dont know about you but I definitely wobble more than 1.5mm! 🤣 So in practice I dont really think it makes a difference. Although sometimes, on those 'in between' ranges, I do think it'd be nice.

Brilliant video and I'd love to use a setup like this for FT. In the US we are allowed up to 20 ft/lbs which makes it a bit easier. Can you share details about the upper half of the butt hook that slides over your shoulder, Can't find anything like it on the Gemini website.
Hi Mark, maybe they dont make that model anymore? The links are all genuine Gemini parts. That set up - or similar - is very common in the uk - although some would say the amount of links I have is extreme?😆

Good video. I assume you range at 50x, what magnification do you shoot at? I was shooting at 50x for everything but the positionals but I have started having more success shooting at 20x. I'm shooting a springer, so shooting at 20x gives me the added benefit of seeing the pellet in flight. This is with a Falcon T50.
