  • I bought this 2014 SeaDoo Spark 90 hp 2up with iBR for $900, but it has a rod through the side of the engine block. The previous owner said he changed the oil with BRP oil and filter regularly, but at 123 hours the MAG cylinder rod tried to exit the engine block. My plan was to rebuild the engine with the remaining good parts, like the head and front cover. Once I disassembled the engine and started to shop for parts, it was clear that it would not be cost-effective. I searched eBay for deals on used Spark engines or parts, but everything is costly for the Spark ACE 900 engine. So I searched ACE 900 and found CanAm Ryker complete running engines for $600-800. I then found an old SeaDoo forum post that said the only difference is the crankshaft, the Ryker has a long tapered shaft, and the Spark has a short splined shaft. I found and ordered a Ryker ACE 900 on eBay for only $637 with free shipping. Once it arrives I'll make a video covering the Ryker 900 swap into the Spark

Very clever idea of using the CanAm 900! Interested to see how it all works out.

@@SeaDooEric yes 🙌 I just picked up a 2017 spark 3up that has been sitting for two years has 101hrs motor looks good no holes in the block and oil looked good haven’t check the oil filter yet. I replaced spark plugs and injectors. It ran for about 10 seconds then died. I checked the 30amp black fuse it was hot and had some corrosion hopefully that’s the issue. If not it may have low compression or other issues.

I recommend getting a CanDooPro diagnostic tool. I used it to read and erase codes on my Spark. It can test injectors, iBR, etc, and also shows real time data when the Spark is running

@SeaDooEric maybe but I'm still trouble shooting the engine. No fault codes pop up

      A lazy injector won't throw a code

Did it end up working for you? Ours needs a new engine too, let me know how it goes.

Stayed tuned, I'm putting the engine in the ski this week. I'll post a follow up video with the results. There are a few differences in the Can Am 900, I'll cover those in the next video

@SeaDooEric I'm thinking to swap all the bolts from the old motor that are stainless, and whatever else. I'll be waiting for the video. What about the crank? Seems different too

The early SeaDoo Spark crank 2014-17 have the non-threaded end this can be removed with heat and a gear puller. Once removed it can be transplanted onto the Can Am crank once you remove the Ryker output shaft, with heat and a puller. Also one of the camshafts is definitely different, maybe both, I'm comparing them still.
I'll cover everything in the next video

If you have the threaded crankshaft the Can Am crankshaft won't work for you, but the block, pistons, head, etc are the same. It's still cheaper than buying a "SeaDoo" ACE 900 engine
