I’m really loving this new format. I’ve listened to a couple of the wizard of ads books on audible, but having someone familiar, who deeply understands the concepts, give an explanation in their own voice conveys the ideas so much better than a narrator reading someone else’s script.
This is the way! Discussions like this are the sort I have had many times over a dram or three. While the lack of Rex's brand of chaotic fun bouncing off of Daniel's storytelling is going to take some getting used to, I like these new videos.

Daniel I don't know if you practice these ahead of time but WOW the way you can weave the story and the experience of the whisky together... fantastic... also the concept of the third gravitating body is so fascinating yet so true... the rule of three works in some many areas, not the least of which is how we interact with each other... I love these videos...

Good morning MBs. When you started out, i was confused. Thought any guy who's girlfriend has a guy friend knows about the third body problem 😮😂. But then i got it. When i started my bourbon journey, on my 5th purchase, the cashier accidentally grabbed a rye and because it was a drive through purchase i didn't catch it until i got home. Struggled with whether or not to add it to my infinity bottle. I did, and it was glorious. Whenever i can afford it i repeat the blend 4 bourbons to 1 rye, 105 proof. It is my "Magnificent Blend", drink of choice. Cheers. Respect-Love-Support

Reminds me of Georg Simmel and 'formal' Sociology. He taught in the late 1800s and early 1900s. One of his ideas was that a dyad tends towards stability temporarily, but a dyad also tends towards inclusion which is destabilizing. It's like I enjoy bourbon and malt for many years, but sooner or later I am curious about Irish or Rye and before you know it, I am alone, naked, in the dark having lost all sense of space and time.
All I could think watching this is Rex was literally the third gravitating body that helped make this channel amazing. I get why he’s no longer a part of it and like the new format but also find this video ironical. Maybe that was intentional 🤷♂️
You could maybe view this video as a reflection on the growth and development of this channel rather than ironic. Those past videos were fun having Rex in the role as the third gravitating body but these almost feel more nourishing, using stories and analogies as the drive towards education rather than shenanigans and the sommelier-mooch setup. I loved the old set up but this is such a new direction that it honestly feels like apples and oranges and I love that they were able to do both and make them work.

It’s a nice change of pace but if I’m being honest, they went from splashes of shenanigans to what could be interpreted as a bit of snobbery. There has been a few times in my life where something magical happened that was unexpected. Often times I’ve tried to duplicate that experience but it would fall short. Though it was still a good experience it didn’t live up to that “Magical moment”. One that comes to mind first is the time my wife and I rented a tiny house in the Hill Country and a beautiful lightning storm rolled through but we could still see the stars…
Stupid question but I might be a bit like Rex who will drink out of anything... As an individual who has been experimenting with whiskey for the last 6 years, I still have not purchased a "proper" whiskey glass. Is this something I should invest in? I use a wide glass or red while glass if it's around but often I just move the whiskey around more if I want to get a good nose of it... If I were to get a glass, how am I meant to know what to look for?
Honestly, any tulip shaped glass will be helpful to get you more smells as you sip your whiskey. wide or red wine is nice, and will definitely do. But a smaller tulip opening will help focus the volatiles without you have to shove your nose down in the glass. checkout Glencairns. They're the industry standard.

Just for fun: Pendulums are similar: a pendulum is pretty easy to calculate (swinging time, reach, ....) However, if you break the stick of the pendulum and add a joint in the middle, the thing becomes very, very hard to calculate.

does grain whisky have to be column distilled, I know malt whisky distilled in column is considered grain whisky, but I think a grain (mash) whisky pot distilled would still be grain whisky

A blend, Great base, malt rounder. In all the talk about scotch blends, why does no one talk about the grain used to make grain scotch whisky? is it mostly corn? Could it be the same proportions as a bourbon? I know it can't be called bourbon. Do they use rye and wheat in the mash? Do they even keep track of the percentages of each grain in the mash, they must, no whiskey producer worth the name doesn't keep meticulous notes on their process. Or is it that the column still strips the distillate down to the point it doesn't matter? But then some bourbon makers in the USA use column stills don't they? OK, subject: Scotch grain whisky deep dive annnnnd GO!
Most don't talk about grain because the fact that it's column distilled to a higher proof means it removes most of the heavy characteristics of that specific grain. So it gets generic reference. It's almost always the cheapest grain. Corn or wheat typically

Have to say I really miss the old content. This isn’t at all what it used to be. Even if Rex needs time for other projects just keep the content the way it was.

If it's referred to as "grain" it's almost always column distilled. once it's pot, they start talking about the actual type of grain being used.

Sorry that it's rough. Change can be no fun for sure. But when it's necessary, it's something that has to be done as well as can be done.
That’s not why Rex and Daniel are no longer filming together. It’s essentially for tax purposes. They explained it in a video not too long ago.
