  • A review and test drive of the Porsche 996 40th Anniversary from 2003-4. Marque specialist dealers 911virgin filmed this car an hour after it arrived into stock. A rare car with less than 300 sold in the UK. X-51 engine upgrade, hard back sports seats, chrome alloys - see what makes this such a unique Porsche 911

    PSE was not standard on the 40 Jahre. I’ve just has Porsche OE switchable exhaust fitted to my 40th.

    Was hoping to hear you talk more about the driving impressions rather than value. How it compares with regular 996s on the road etc. but still thanks for putting out the video!

      Always hard to get the balance right. Ultimately good examples just feel like a really good 996. The M030 suspension means the handling is sharp, the X51 engine upgrade means the engine feels full of life. The 996 is a thoroughly modern 911 to drive with no real quirks as per the earlier models particularly pre '89.

    This commemorative edition could be mistaken for a body kit car. There were companies making body kits updating the 996 era cars.

    • @911virgin8
      @911virgin8  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Outwardly it's just the C4S / Turbo front PU (bumper) and GT3 side sills. The real appeal is how sharp the suspension upgrade / limited slip diff and engine power upgrade make these cars feel. To be honest Porsches have always been about the driver experience, how you feel as an owner rather than a spectator.

    Slight correction.. you could get the 40th Jahre with comfort seats but the Silver painted hard backs sport seats are more sought after. Great videos keep them coming..

    I know this isn’t exactly Porsche related but I need to know, where does the intro music come from? To me it sounds like John Mayer’s version of the SRV track “Lenny” or possibly someone’s interpretation of it, do you know what it is or is it just something you stumbled upon that sounded nice? Thanks

    Hello, I saw this video in Korea. I'm also giving you a Porsche for the 40th anniversary. I checked the engine scratches that everyone is worried about, and I got a note that they are very clean. I rode 117,000km now, but I still ride well without any problems. This car's characteristic is that it's very sexy. The line is so pretty.

    • @911virgin8
      @911virgin8  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there Try. Glad to hear you are enjoying your car and glad to hear bore scoring wasn't a problem. If an engine does suffer from scored bores it's a relatively easy fix, all be it one that can cost a little money but spread over a few years of ownership it eases the pain. The Porsche family is a worldwide one. 행복

    Nice to see the 40th Anniversary model being featured and getting some recognition.
    Nice video despite a few errors with the UK numbers & spec and no mention of the much sort after luggage, key pouch & wallet made from the same perforated leather as the seats.

    • @911virgin8
      @911virgin8  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there. Every day is a school day, the video was made with 8 minutes notice on a Saturday morning just after we took it into stock :-)
      With regards the luggage my advice would be to focus on buying a good car which is hard enough given they are 17 years old now. Having the matching luggage might give bragging rights in the owner's club, although I wonder if you dare use it? But even then I'd much rather have a superb car and no luggage rather than the usual 17 year old nail and a key fob that's languished in someone's sweaty groin pocket.....

    Thanks for the video, I bought number 1200 last year, and what was important to me was that it had good service records. The clutch was replaced, IMS, And the rear main seal. I was wondering if any of that work was done on this car.

    • @911virgin8
      @911virgin8  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Old Porsches aren't a sum total of their parts or invoices. It's important to look at the car as a whole and to look at components as they present rather than when they were last changed in the service history. Brakes may have been replaced less than 500 miles ago but if they are warped, corroded or indeed worn out then they need replacing, similarly if there's no invoice for their being changed but the are in brand new condition then there's no need or point in replacing.
      I remember selling a 964 that had just had a brand new clutch fitted and the new owner destroyed it over a weekend of bad driving to the point where it was burnt to a crisp !
      We see so many cars that people have bought on the strength of a few recent jobs but which we have to reject on the grounds of serious faults elsewhere.

    • @911virgin8

      @911virgin8  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There's no right & wrong when it comes to model choice and the Turbo is a hell of a car but nothing quite beats the subtlety of a normally aspirated 911 in terms of control.

      @@911virgin8 The turbos power is amazing and there is an added layer of solidity with the awd. I just did not find it as connected and you had to drive it like a felon to get real enjoyment out of it.

      @@clubracer6 I agree with you 100%. I "came from" a 997 Turbo that I sold back in 2013... When I got the itch again around 2014 I began to refine my search and homed in on the 40th. I was always 1 day too late whenever one would come up for sale until I finally became the day-early guy in early 2020. Have thoroughly enjoyed my 40th for the past 2 years and the connection I have with the car I never felt with the 997 Turbo (as amazing of a car as that was). The noise and power band from the X51 equipped engine is perfect for me.
