    Great video on the 964. I used to monitor your website years ago and dream of one day buying a 964 off you. Luckily I now own a 964 after finding one at an auction in 2014. Mine is a tiptronic which is the only thing you didn't mention in the video. I know they are not as desirable but are still fun to drive with bei g able to change gear manually if you like. Handy if you want to drop it a cog and floor it.

      Glad you eventually managed to scratch the itch. Tiptronic was quite a clever stick for it's day monitoring your driving style and adjusting shifting to suit your mood. As you say you could also pop the lever across and use it as a 4 speed "manual" box.

      @@tungholam Well, in Germany we actually call them "Grandpa-Tronic" (Opatronic). At the time, Porsche didn't bother to develop their own automatic gearboxes and resorted to a Mercedes auto-box (albeit with some mods), which in most peoples view did not suit the 964 too well. Glad to hear you like yours nonetheless. However, I prefer the manual in my C2 cab.

      @@CM-lj8me It's worth saying that not everyone can drive a manual car. When it came out the Tip gearbox offered a great opportunity to physically challenged owners. It also suited people who's daily use centered around town.

    Nice one Henry. My old Jubi for which I commissioned the restoration work to get it to that condition. The new custodian went on a little further! The trip to Porsche Museum in it was a favourite and like you 964 is my preferred model.

    I like the 964 look but not the turbo look body, the chunky flat bit that traces around the wheel arch looks so ugly to my eyes. Great video nonetheless.

    Great video- could you advise whether PASM is a must have on a 2017 Cayenne? I’m getting different views from dealers on ride quality with and without it. I’m only planning to use the car for family purposes. Appreciate your thoughts, thank you

      We have a Cayenne video in the pipeline so I'll cover that a bit then, but in a nutshell Air suspension. Without it the rear in particular can be a bit harsh and your ride height is going to be a compromise. With air suspension the ride is more compliant and you can have the car lower (one below middle) during normal driving whilst still keeping raised suspension as an option should you find yourself outside Chelsea.

    Hi Henry, When I bought my 993, it was a toss up between that car (also in polar silver) and a white 964 Carrera 4. Whilst I love the 993, I really thought the 964 drove well. What influenced the final decision was the horror stories about leaky 964 engines. I enjoyed your video very much.

    Fair play to you & your team for laying yourself bare to the comments videos like this one will inevitably create, your passion & especially your willingness to except you may not be the definitive authority on the subject is a total credit to you. That said you could have said a standard bodied C2 is a nicer drive & the variable 4WD is stupidly complicated & liable to to try & kill you on the limit ;-)

      We are a very quiet corner of TH-cam. I don't think the world will change too much based on my comments and thoughts :) I'm old and ugly enough to survive any comments. Ultimately ask to see THEIR videos and of course they don't have any. It's easy to criticise when you don't have any skin in the game !
      As the 964 gets older and indeed the 993 gets older I think it comes down to individual cars and their condition. A C2 with a heavy clutch will feel a less sprightly car to drive than a C4 with a nice light clutch. As for at the limit driving, how many of these are going to be driven like that now? If we're racing them then yes a C2 all day long but for an amble out to grab a coffee and a natter.....

    Man I love your content but please treat yourself to a chest/collar mike. I've just watched 4hrs of content before this episode and your sound level is way way lower than others.

      We do use a lapel mic and a wireless link. Sound is something we are constantly working on, this particular video was shot a year ago. The method we use to film and the lack of crew means that unfortunately we can't monitor audio in real terms when filming.

      A very bold statement Alan given there is some debate on the subject, you're obviously a far more knowledgeable man than me because I wouldn't make such a definite statement. Ultimately I don't know the answer but rightly or wrongly people refer to the 964 Turbo as a 965 so everyone, yourself included knows what they are talking about. There is also the valid argument that part numbers for the car start 965 ... ... ..

      @@911virgin8 They are not my words, but a distillation of the words of the lead designer of the 964, Ben Dimson. He states that the 965 only ever existed as a concept car, which was intended to be a second generation, lower cost 959, and bring as much of the 959's tech as possible into a more "reasonably" priced car positioned above the 964 Turbo in the lineup. However, only one test mule was ever built and the project was cancelled due to perceived lack of demand. According to him, 965 was never internal Porsche code for any other model than that stillborn project, and I don't know if anyone in better position to answer "definitively".
      There is a really good interview with him on another channel called "That 911 Guy". Worth watching if you are into this sort of thing. Would link it directly but not sure if that might be considered bad form. The relevent conversation is a little over 13 minutes into the interview. As far as nomenclature, is it really that hard to say 964 Turbo? :) And there is of course the fact that the 965 did in fact exist, and is a totally different thing than a 964 Turbo. I probably should have said that a "the 964 Turbo is not a 965", as that would be more clear.
      Also interesting is the fact that Mr. Dimson pronounces 964 as nine sixty four, rather than nine six four. Germans also say it similarly, as neun vierundsechzig, rather than neun sechs vier. Semanitcs I know, but mildly interesting anyway.

      @@TheAlanFish Hi there. No worries in linking to the other site. Ultimately if the world wants to call a 964 Turbo a 965 then let them. To the outside world it must seem a bit anal to call cars by their project names but as we both know calling something a 911 Carrera doesn't really help, it covers pretty much 50 years worth of different models so 964, 993, 996, 997 etc have a use. 964 turbo is easy enough to use. I always struggle when I hear people refer to 944 Turbos as 951 model cars. Why? A 944 Turbo is a 944 Turbo, it doesn't span several generations of 944, there was only one. It evolved into the 968.
      Anyway, I guess I try not to lecture people, which is odd and a bit ironic given the content of the video channel but even though we sell them for a living I'm still just a simple lover of Porsches at heart.

    The title is a bit misleasing as there was actually 911 3.2 Celebration Edition as well 924 and 944.

      How is the title in any way misleading? The 964 in brackets clearly show that this video features the 911 964 model celebration or anniversary from 1993.
      Not familiar with the 3.2 Celebration edition. There was a 3.2 Commemorative edition finished in diamond blue metallic for the 1988 model year to celebrate 250,000 911s built and we've sold a couple over the years.
      There seems to be a silver anniversary from 1989 to celebrate the 25th year of 911 production (as the 911 came out in 1963 the actual celebration was technically 1988). I think this may be a US only model and given the imminent arrival of the 964 model possibly a run out special to clear the decks of old stock.

      ​ @911virgin There were 924, 944 and 911 CE. I had 944 CE for West Germany market all of them had sterling silver medallion better standard equipment and some unique interior colors..       Being based on a C4 tiptronic wasn't an option on the Jubilee / Celebration cars. As for 964 tiptronics in general it was a huge improvement on Porsche's previous attempt the Sportomatic which I don't think anyone would claim to be Porsche's finest hour. If we get a 964 Tip in it could be a candidate for a quick video to explain the technology a bit. Obviously compared to PDK tiptronic would be seen as a poor relation but you need to remember what was available at the time.

      @@moto11m It was a car of the times but, in my humble opinion possibly not something that stood the test of time. In period a lot of people converted Sportomatic cars to manual. There are always people who need or want an automatic car and they have evolved to a point where PDK gear changes are faster than manual gearboxes, but Sportomatic was a pretty crude technology.
