Two time Oscar® -winner Milos Forman (Amadeus, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest) directs Woody Harrelson, Courtney Love and Edward Norton in this "smart, funny, shamelessly entertaining" film called "a blazing triumph" by The New York Times.
Based on a true story of the notorious Hustler publisher who was sued by the Religious Right and paralysed by a fanatic's bullet, The People Vs Larry Flint is a stranger-than-fiction comedy about one man's outrageous public persona and eccentric private life. The film chronicles Flynt's raunchy business savvy, his wildly unconventional marriage and his infamous courtroom antics, The People Vs Larry Flint is "the most scintillating and outrageous message movie of the decade. An ultrapop masterpiece!" - Playboy Magazine

And now Larry is dead. A guy that fought for his shooter not being executed, showing one of the biggest signs of decency and humanity a person can have. RIP Mr. Flynt!

Actually, Flynt wanted his assailant to have life in prison in order for him to suffer more. There's was nothing altruistic in his stance.

@@patrickdodds7162 I disagree. Quoting Flynt: ""sole motivating factor behind the death penalty is vengeance, not justice, and I firmly believe that a government that forbids killing among its citizens should not be in the business of killing people itself." If this is not about decency and humanity, I got it all wrong... and I don't believe I had.

There is an interview with Larry’s daughter Tonya Flynt and Gloria Steinem who is the co founder of Miss magazine talking the truth about Larry and I’m just going to put it this way and tell you all that they both said that Larry was no hero hero at all. And I agree with them to say the least. I’m not hear to start a war here or anything like that but it’s the truth. I seen the interview before and it was true with what Tonya said. She said that he was abusive towards her and he never cared about feee speech at all. All he really cared about was the money he made and his assets. And people can have different opinions and view points about what I’m saying but what I’m saying isn’t a opinion it’s the truth

Very interesting movie as it paints a truly nuanced picture of Flynt. It looks like many times life punished him for his actions (he was sentenced to 25 years of prison, he lost his wife to aids, he got shot to become wheelchair bound and impotent) but he just kept at it. I guess that I came out from the movie with some respect for the man but even less for the pornographer. It really puzzles me that all these signs of destiny never gave him pause though. He did try to convert but apparently instead of letting God rewire his heart and soul he expected some more tangible payoff, as if it was God's job to please people's egos.

    • @crystalmorgan8039

I mean though, his mission was free speech, even if its unpopular opinions. You have to respect his mission. The man definitely wasn't a Saint, but he never claimed to be either. You can respect someone and their mission without approving of everything they do. And if the dumb and grotesque people lose their right to speak, how much longer before the intelligent people lose their right to speak.
