My heart was in my mouth when you got to the robe, I’m so glad that you had success!!
The elastic cuffs is genius ❤
Have a lovely evening under your beautiful quilt with a glass of fizz x
Oh dear.. hope I didn’t have you worried 😂😂 it’s a great pattern and I’m so pleased with the result! It’s perfect for that fabric and I never would have thought of a robe without your video! So thank you!!!
Quilt and Fizz sounds like the best evening!
Xxx
Whew I am so glad you ended with a success. I am sewing everything I can think of. I am even about to sew for the younger grandson. I had put three projects into boxes several years ago and pulled them out the other day. There were significant problems and each and everyone of those projects ended being gently placed in the trash. Now I have gone through all my fabrics and am starting to sew, sew, sew and I am having fun.
I am too Marcia 😂😂 it was touch and go for a while 😂😂 that is wonderful that you’re back sewing and I hope you’re able to have another go at those projects! Thanks so much fo watching!
Don’t apologise for a long video ! The longer the better in my opinion 😂. I love having you talking to me as I work in my sewing room. 😊
That’s very kind sue! Thank you so much and very glad you enjoy the vlogs! Happy sewing!
I do find you really funny Rachel. My best-friend lives in Galway and she too has nothing good to say about the Irish postal service. When I send her anything I usually post it a month in advance. 😂 She also speaks as fast as you. 😂😘
☺️ Very glad those buttons finally arrived!
Sorry to hear you’ve had a few difficult sews, your blouse looks gorgeous though so worth it in the end. Love your Pogonip. I’m making a dress for a wedding next weekend and I’m having a few problems with the fit of the bodice on one so started another one and didn’t cut enough skirt pieces out, assumed it was cut two but it said cut four so have had to send away for some more fabric, 🤞it arrives in time
Hi Angela! Thanks so much! The blouse did turn out really pretty, which I’m super pleased about! I really hope you get that dress finished! We’ve all been there with cutting.. it’s so tricky isn’t it!!! Fingers crossed you get it really soon!
I had multiple major fails on the same dress last week and when I was just finishing up and serging the seems, I caught the dress in the serger and cut a hole in it. Ugh. So I completely understand! Hope your week is better.
Hi Michelle! I’m sorry you had a disaster this week! I really hope you were able to rescue it?? It’s the worst isn’t it 😂😂
This week has been much better, thanks so much and thanks for watching
So glad you persevered with your makes, the quilt is gorgeous, I'm making my second toile for a dress I want to make, also I was inspired with your bucket hats you made a littlie while ago so I've been through my scrapes to make some for my grandchildren xx
Thank you!! Yes those bucket hats are absolutely brilliant!!
Well done to still be smiling after all your frustrations- I’d love to see a photo of you in the finished blouse with the cute buttons & I bet it’s lovely. So sorry about the sweatshirt being too small - what a pain as the design and colours were beautiful! Beautiful quilt too- I’d love to make a quilted jacket, bag or shirt and think I’ll start with a wall hanging as a practice piece. Btw that red heart on the pogo nip was inspired. Enjoy your family weekend xxx
😂😂 thanks sue! I wasn’t smiling last week…. But I’ve had time to recover 😜 as soon as I get the buttons sewn on my blouse I’ll be sharing it on instagram and can share on here next week hopefully!!
A little quilt to practice would be good fun. Warning.. it’s addictive 😜
Hope you have a lovely weekend too!
I feel for you! I've had weeks like that and it's not fun. Good thing you had the robe to cheer you up. It looks lovely and very elegant. I've just finished my Tilda blouse and I'm really happy with it. Now I just have to work out how to post it on Instagram. I'm very new to all this technology stuff LOL. Your quilt looks amazing.
Hi Avril! The robe really cheered me up! Love wearing it, thank you!! The tilda Blouse looks like a gorgoeus pattern! Best of luck with instagram! Such a great sewing community over there!
Discussing your experiences and mistakes is really useful for a lot of us I'm sure. All of us could listen to you all day 😁❤️
Ah thank you! Hopefully I didn’t complain too much 😂😂 just one of those weeks 😜
@@TheFrenchSeams_vlog gosh no, I am sure you could never complain too much 🤩
REEEAAAALLLYYY looking forward to our live fromt he Studio next week! great vlog ;)
Woop wooooooop it’ll be great fun 🎥
Thanks annemarie!
Some lovely makes, your blouse looks lovely even if it did cause you some stress! Xxx
😂 thanks Clare! Glad it came out nicely though… eventually 😜
It is very frustrating when sewing projects don't quite go together the way you hope they will. I agree with you about the price of the PDF pattern. So many of them are quite expensive, especially when you add in the cost of printing or the time it takes to print and tape together at home. I totally understand that the designer/company needs to make money, but the patterns also have to be affordable. Your quilt is lovely. Mmmm do i need to get back into quilting?
Hi jennett! It is quite expensive isn’t it! Glad that’s not just me! I know how much work goes into a pattern but that just seems more than usual? I think you definitely need to get back into quilting! I’m absolutely loving it!!
Adorable Pogonip. The red heart really makes it special. So happy to see your finished quilt. It is lovely. I have quilted for years but I still remember how excited I was to finish my first quilt. I can't wait to see your fancy green dress. I'm sure it will be stunning. So sorry to hear about your struggles this week with your sewing. But I am happy to hear your robe is a success. It looks very soft and comfy. Thanks for sharing your week and all the fun makes.
Thanks carol! It was fun to have that pop of crochet! I’m so happy with my quilt and now want to make loads more 😂😂 thanks so much for watching!
I’ve just finished making a Chanel style jacket, it’s taken about 3 months on and off as it was quite challenging , and there were many times I thought ‘why don’t I just go and buy one’ but I’m glad I persevered as I love it 💕
That sounds gorgeous Anne! Well done for persevering!!! Sounds like quite an involved project!
I have made the high cuff top for the first time recently and found it to be really short. I normally find their patterns generous and foolishly didn’t check the length! I had to play tetras to get the waistband out of my ribbing but got there in the end. I also plan to make again but will lengthen the body. Glad you ended the week with a success! 😊
It is very short… glad that’s not just me! I usually add length but didn’t realise how much I had to add 😂😂 well done on salvaging yours!
The week ended well which is great!!!
Your quilt is beautiful and I love how pleased you are with it! I really appreciate your honesty and letting us know when things don’t go quite right. I absolutely love your Pogonip and that robe is stunning! Xx
Thank Izzy! I’m so happy with how it came out! The class was just brilliant! Things did not go well last week 😂. But it’s all part of it, isn’t it! Thanks for watching!
Haha. This was a funny one, Rachael 😂. I feel your pain with makes that just put up a fight all the way, but I’m happy that you ended on a good note. Love your quilt, too. I’m actually really keen on making a new quilt soon, too. Did you see Shannon from Shannon makes do a quilt while she was on tour? She hand stitched everything from scraps. Looked great!
😂😂 thanks Karen Marie! I’m loving my quilting adventure!!!! I must take a look at Shannon Makes! Thanes for that recommendation!!
You certainly had a rollercoaster of a fortnight. Some amazing successes with quilting and that blouse is so pretty even though it caused you quite a headache by the sounds of it! That robe looks so elegant, like those wonderful 1930s gowns! How exciting that you are doing a TH-cam live, I imagine you are used to doing online work presentations so I'm sure it will be a breeze for you. Have a wonderful week and I do hope you have had the warm sunny weather we have over here this weekend ☀️ xx
It really was carole! So happy the robe worked out! Yes totally 1930 vibes 🥰 the TH-cam live should be a bit of fun! I’m looking forward to it!! We had the most glorious weather at the weekend and it’s now back to being gray and dull 🫣 have a lovely week x
Your quilt is fabulous! The fleece jacket with the hearts is so pretty and looks very cozy!
Thank you so much! Really happy with them both
Thanks for a lovely interesting video. Definitely not too long! You have given me inspiration about a robe and I need to get on with my Pogonip! Yours is great…love the red heart and buttons.
Thanks Sharon!! The robe is a great pattern! So happy to get that pogonip made up!
Loved your honest vlog as always Rachael. You did well to finish your blouse - looks fantastic . I think you should win a prize for perseverance alone! I’m just sewing up a C&N max tee in quilted velvet after seeing your grey one and ordering it straight away! Enjoy snuggling under your beautiful quilt . Morna x
Thanks so much morna! I’m very happy with the blouse… eventually 😂
A quilted velvet max tee sounds spectacular!!!
Love your lap quilt Rachel 😊- you have totally inspired me to follow Dizzy Quilts & Sews and do her quilt blocks. I got the first four done in a week 🤦🏼♀️😂 … very addictive - she is just so easy to follow. Can’t wait for block 5 😊. Looking forward to seeing your completed Frocktails dress. I actually love the High Cuff Sweater as it uses up such a small amout of woven fabric. I think once you get the fit right you will be happy. I think I might need to make that lovely robe too 😊❤
Hi claire! I would highly recommend Izzy’s TH-cam series! I’m absolutely loving it!! I’ve done block 5 now and it’s very cute!
I’m really hoping to get the high cuff working for me 🤞🏻🤞🏻 thanks a mill for watching!
I do like that you share the issues that you have with patterns. That’s always good to know and yes, sewing fails can be frustrating 😩 can’t they, but the successes make it all worth it. That navy pink heart fabric is so pretty too. What a shame it didn’t fit. Glad you finished on a high though. I made wide leg trousers this week - waist is way too big, but that’s fixable but I simply don’t like them on me! But I’ve learned a bit more about fitting and I’m about to try another pattern in a straighter style. Onwards and upwards. Have a good week Rachael. 😄
Thanks Jan! It was a bit frustrating…. But onwards and upwards! Hope you’re able to be successful with your trouser journey! Thanks so much for watching!!
Love all your makes! Definitely worth trying the high cuff in a medium. I have made a few! Better with a wider ribbing. I bought the paper pattern, no problems…
Thanks Amy! I’ll definitely be giving it another go!! I won’t be defeated 😜
How funny. I am waiting on buttons for my sew April blouse.
Hope they arrive!!!!!
I haven't made the high cuff sweater but I was tempted when I saw 'Julie sews her own clothes'. I think it was her most recent vlog. Her version looked really good but she seemed to be wearing the waistband more or less on her waist. That might explain why it seemed small to you, Rachael? Perhaps it's not meant to be worn on the hips. Also, perhaps I'm talking 'out the back of my neck' since I haven't made it myself....
Hi Liz . I must check out her version, thanks!. It’s very short alright, even in the stock photo. It’s definitely meant to be on the waist, which is fine. The issue is it’s above my waist 😂 which is too short for me 😜
Hello again from Atlanta! Love your robe fabric! Very pretty. ❤️
Hello from Dublin! Thanks so much
Hi Rachael! Your heart pogonip is fabulous! The touch of red is perfect! I can relate to sewing setbacks! My blouse for April may not be finished in time. I’m completely changing patterns but salvaging the fabric. Your blouse looks lovely! I do appreciate the honesty about your experience with the pattern. ❤
Hi Maureen! Thanks so much! ❤️ glad you enjoyed the vlog and the honest review 😦
That’s a shame about your blouse! I really hope you can work something out??
I’m really keen to make a patchwork quilt too. Would have loved to have seen yours in more detail, it was just a quick moving flash.
I need to figure out how to take a good picture of the quilt and I’ll be sure to share when I do! I’m so happy with it and I just loved the class!
I know just how you feel, losing faith in a pattern and being frustrated with it. It does seem to be part of sewing. When that happens to me, I make sure to follow up with a favourite pattern that always works to keep me on track. You have been very unlucky with two fails but your quilt is lovely and your frocktails frock is going to be stunning.
I’m glad you know how I was feeling!! You’re so right about following it with a in thing that works. It’s good for morale!!! Thank you so much for the kind words.. and thanks for watching
Thanks for your honesty. Your makes are always fab. I too have that "robe fabric " was thinking about making it up into something soon.
Thanks Ann! Glad you appreciated the video! The “robe fabric” is actually perfect for that pattern! So glad I found it’s destiny 😜
Hope you find something lovely for it too, I’d be keen to see what you come up with!
Another great vlog Rachael. I’m pleased you didn’t throw your sewing machine out of the window, something I’m tempted to do occasionally 😂 It’s always inspirational when sewists branch out into another craft. From dressmaking to crochet to patchwork to quilting, I wonder what rabbit hole you’ll fall down next? 😊
Thanks very much! Yes I’m very glad I didn’t either! I eventually calmed down 😂😂 I am loving all my different crafts these days! I’m glad that you enjoy that content too! Thanks so much for watching
Lovely video. Great makes.
I am sorry you had a hard time with those 2 makes.
I have quite a similar pattern to the hi cuff sweater - just with a straight waistband. I haven't made it yet. It's by Made by Oranges.
Enjoy your weekend away. Hope you will have wonderful time
Thanks Agata!
We had such a lovely weekend!!
Great video as usual.
Thanks Susan!
❤
I'm similar height to you and thought that just in case you haven't tried M&S recently I'd mention. I don't think I've got super long legs for my height, even so, regular lengths look plain silly. In the last 3 weeks I bought a pair of jeggings from M&S in the long leg length, they do an even longer length. I bought them for walking and wear boots over and they are ideal. They were also cheaper and quicker than if I made for myself. Also should say that ages ago I bought 3 lengths of fabric from BTPD to make capri length Ultimate trousers from SOI - hence the need for a quick fix, so please don't judge🤭
Hi Ann! I got some leggings from M&S at Christmas but they were really high waisted. I looked again and it does look like they have jeans that are mid rise, so I’ll be trying them! Thanks for the prompt ! Can’t go wrong with M&S 😜absolutely no judgement here, ever 😜
Thanks for watching
As good as the Pattydoo instructions are, so bad are the ones from Bara. In bigger sizes even the fit is poor. Bara is also from Germany, Munich
Oh really? Is this a known thing I wasn’t aware of? How interesting! Thanks astrid! I’m very happy with how it came out in the end though!!
Love love love your quilt! And the Christmas one will be delightful! Are you identifying yourself by putting your name/year completed on each quilt? VERY sensible to take a class first. I'll raise my hand to the question, "Whose preparation for making a quilt was buying fabrics that sorta go together and cutting out squares approximately the same size?" Your Frocktails dress is going to be a knockout! Plan to add a matching bag? BTW, does your Christmas list have just one item? Could it be binding?
Thank you ☺️ I’ve started the Christmas one and I’m loving it so far!! Oh putting a label on them is a good idea… chalk it down!! I did very little prep I must admit and my cutting out is extremely haphazard… must improve. 😂😂 that is a yes to the matching bag!!!!
Hahaha I literally said to mr French seams this weekend that all I want for my birthday is bias binding 😂😂😂
Thanks Rachel. How’s the sewing room coming on? x
Sewing room is currently all cleared out… waiting on electrician 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻 then painting, then hopefully hopefully moving back in!!!!
Oh my gosh, the instructions for the Adela blouse need rewriting! It’s a beautiful blouse though!
Thanks Mary. It came out well despite it all 😂
Your blouse is very cute. I went over to their site, there’s an instructional video there that’s in German (I think?) I did see the have English captions, I didn’t watch the whole thing. I’m wondering if something in your English instructions got mistranslated or something? I’m currently working on some basic spring/summer tees and my serger locked up last night! I tried everything to remedy it but couldn’t get it to work, maybe a random thread is stuck. Anyway I have lots of things batched cut out and was going to spend the weekend sewing. Sure I can just use my sewing machine but they are tees! I’ll try one more time this am, and if the problem continues I’ll take to the repair shop. Kind of bummed, I was looking forward to bumping out some tees. Nice chatty video! Your pogonip is cute!
Thanks very much! And thanks for the tip about the video! I had a look and seems to be pretty much the same. They fold the collar which is fine, but it still says 1 on the pattern. And they say to finish the collar. Most of this is my own preference for finishing techniques so I’ll just tweak it the next time I make it. I love the result though!! I really hope you get your overlocker fixed! I’d be lost without mine!!!! And for making T-shirts with an overlocker you’d whizz through them’ thanks so much for watching and glad you enjoyed it!
I've been sewing forever and have learned, always measure your actual pattern. I have been disappointed, more than once, sewing the wrong size, because I believed the pattern's measurements.
I think you’re right. I held it up to me and thought it would be ok… forgetting about the dart 😂😂 I need to get better at that ! Thanks so much for watching
