I might actually cry! My grandma and I used to play this together. We would sit side by side with our own laptop and play. I would sleep at her apartment and we would have fun. But now she’s getting tired fast and can’t have people sleep at her apartment.. really sad cause I miss those days... ❤️😭❤️❤️
In my opinion, Sims 2 has always been the best series. I see the original Sims as a great 'started' - the idea kicked off, you can spend hours trying to live up to the sim-world expectations (even when 20+ friends requirement for promotion was in use), some basic building and designing options were available, too. Sims 3 on the other hand has the graphics, the open world, the simultaneous progression of everyone in the same neighbourhood, the social aspect of the game (like a limited multiplayer nearly), easier content exchange and plenty of interactions. However. The sims 2. This game may now seem to have mediocre graphics (but back then, I remember staring in awe at my Sim making breakfast, such a difference from always-same-meal in Sims 1) and less options/exploration but it had 'something'. The witty reactions of Sims to certain situation, the inside jokes, the iconic elements (the llama, the cow-plant, the alien impregnating men, etc.), the genius jokes hidden in the object descriptions and the cutscenes. This game wasn't aimed at producing as many micro-transactions as possible, getting as much cash as possible, etc. I mean, sure, money was the reason they have even developed it, but it never seemed to be the main goal of it. Maxis really pulled off a great combination of skills, design and dedication on developing a fantastic game that I still now, in 2013, come back to when I can't stand the unbearably long loading time for sims 3 or quite repetetive daily routines in Sims 1. The Sims 2 will always be my favourite series (I challenge you, Sims 4, show me what you've got!). Cheers, everyone!
I agree 100% with you. Sims 2 has something special, a magic that was absent in Sims 3. I think what makes Sims 2 a better game, even though I love Sims 3, is the attention to details. In Sims 2 there was so much gameplay and so many little details here and there that it just compelled you to keep playing to discover new features and secrets. The graphics were also great by that time (2004) and it introduced the most changes compared to its precuel. The expansions were better too, with tons of hours of gameplay and better themes (except for FreeTime which was kinda boring). I don't know, I just feel that Sims 2 set the bar way too high and Sims 3, despite being a great game, couldn't quite reach. I think that EA's model of micro-transactions really affected the game, because they took away content meant to be part of expansions to sell it later. And also that content is not as developed as one would expect. The bistro and savy seller PC are both limited and restricted, and they could have been way better if they had been part of an expansion. I hope Sims 4 manages to deliver a well-rounded and complete experience for the players and thus finally surpass the bar set by that great game called Sims 2.
NausAllien it was the last game made by the one who started the whole sims thing , with simcity ,yep , he was from the begging of maxis ,i forgot his name though , sims 2 was the last game at the company before retiring , but man , he was brilliant . look at sims 2 :))
You can have turn offs and turn ons with the slice of life mod on the sims 4, virus free, easy use, and fun, all the perks! Add other stuff like periods and dehydration, and stuff like that!
The sims 2 was definitely the best of the series. Things actually happened to your sims and there was an underlying dark sense of humor. Now sims have way too cushy of lives.
To those who's just watching this episode now and have no idea what the heck is with the black rectangles, it's Shadow issue. Try turning the shadow down to medium or, even better, turn it off. Hope this helps because it sure does to most people having this issue. :)

You probably know this by now. But the black bars under the sims is a origin sims issue. It's under "Shadows" in the graphics settings. If Shadows are on high, put them to medium & the bars will be gone. It seemed to be an issue with the game running on updated machines. Just found out today.
The Sims 2 somehow doesn't seem dated for me. I've played it for 10 years and I think it's much better than crappy and boring Sims 3. I never get why people think if something is old it has to be worse. No, it's not. You like your grandparents, right? And they're old too :) I have families in Sims 2 that I made a few years ago and still play them :D Sims 2 is love, Sims 2 is life :D

Hey, everyone! You can still get this game! Contact origin chat support and be EXTREMELY NICE TO THEM! Ask about the availability on sims 2 and they'll ask for you to provide proof of purchase. I just downloaded a picture of the sims 2 disc off of an eBay listing and uploaded it to them, that was good enough for the agent I had and they gave me the full ULTIMATE EDITION FOR FREE!! I had to go through two other unhelpful agents before I got one that would actually help me- but they will do it! If anyone has any questions on this, just let me know. It works, I promise!
I don’t care what anyone says, Sims 1 has the best music. I grew up playing sims 1 and getting so excited when I got a new expansion, ending up getting them all. Then moved onto sims 2, eventually got every expansion. I found the best part was the building options, you could actually use split level! Something which hasn’t been featured in any of the other games which is such a shame. I’m always trying to make houses with split level. Sims 3 has the best open world interaction. The way you can go anywhere in the neighbourhood and everything’s on the screen, instead of rectangle lots. Then sims 4, arguably the worst so far in terms of gameplay, but I really enjoy building houses in it, even though they removed a lot of the good features from the other games. I miss Sims 1!

Haha, I love you! You're hilarious and have such character. I believe the black boxes is like how far they can reach during conversation or dancing, and the game can't read the floor to the sim together
I have all the sims games and I can honestly say The Sims 2 is the best, I tried playing sims 4 the other day and it just wasn't the same experience. I think I like playing the individual household and having the option to go out and explore without it been mandatory. I dunno it's just the best in my opinion and I've played it for like 10 years and I'm still not bored with it 😁
Just started playing this again (despite having Sims 3 so much better playing this with expansions than Sims 3 with none) but just got Nightlife and still trying to find Apartment Life and I love the idea of the Ikea stuff. I only got the square shadows after I installed Nightlife
After watching a lot of your Sims 4 LPs I really appreciate how the designers finally dropped the everything-is-blue-and-rounded interface from 1-3 for something more minimalist and unobtrusive.
I find that sim customisation is best if you use Sims Body Shop. I can't seem to access it after having downloaded the free ultimate edition...(which also means no custom clothes, or skins), but it had so many more slider options for creating a really good sim face. Sigh...

When I was younger playing the sims 2 I remember someone told me when the sims act uncomfortable when you pick an outfit and keep the outfit they have a higher chance of random death lol. I literally couldn't not change the outfit straight from the fear of them dying because of it. I just remembered that I was so young lmao
That annoying black box underneath the Sims happened to me as well (I'm using Windows 7) I found out that all you have to do is go into your options and change the shadow quality to medium, I had mine on high and as soon as I changed it to medium it went away! :)
So I'm not the only one with the black bar! I started getting that glitch after upgrading my graphics card, but I think its an Nvidia Geforce driver issue. At least I know its a common problem with a lot of systems.
sims 2 doesn't need much storage like sims 3 and 4. My computer crashed because of the graphics and everything that sims 3 had. I will stick with sims 2 and its cheaper.

+Social Misfit my laptop is running windows 10 and its on the highest graphics and its running very smoothly. one thing is though the water and grass and shadows had a weird texture but thats a common problem with the ultimate collection and a simple google search showed me how to fix it. other than that its amazing. i added some mod that adds sun rise and sun set and a new grass mod that makes my game look beautiful. one other thing is because its all the expansion packs when you open build and buy mode and select like doors or beds or whatever category it takes a second longer to load all the items

She would come back from school, lauch the game and by the time she had done all her homework, cleaned the room, and eaten dinner the game was finally loaded and ready to play ^^ Only took a couple hours...

If I remember right, the box is a shadow issue, if you change the quality, it will be fixed, I had to deal with that when I first got the Sims 2 Collection.
+The Sim Supply, that black box you're concerned about is what's known - in programming terms - as a |crash area" or a "contact pad". If you noticed when you hovered the mouse over one of them you could select actions.
just re-downloaded my sims 2 today with its expansion packs since my last game which was like 6 or 7 years ago. and yet i like this better than the sims 4 hohoho
The big black box is your graphics card. There was a thread on MTS about solving that. One reason was a Nvidia update driver back around September broke things and people had to roll back. The newer update in November is supposed to be okay.

i cant do it :( when i go into options the shadows option is greyed out so i cant change it
It has nothing to do with origin. NVidia and AMD borked their drivers.
You can either turn the shadows down or downgrade your drivers
I think sims 2 is more realistic then sims 3. But I love sims 2 and 3 both! Great games!

Sims 2 was quiet a marvelous game. It had a great beginning and continues to become better.
CAS was just terrible though ... the sliders worked weirdly in my opinion. But they did have great hairs and clothing.

If you change the settings on shadows to middle, the thing under the sims goes away :)

Its a shadow, turned off similar shadows in graphics options, also try changing resolution, that may also help

wow I haven't played sims 2 in such a long time. I am so use to playing Sims 3 and sims 4.

Sims 2 was great and a great approvement of sims 1, but its true, all sims look the same :D

I know this is 6 yrs old, I just thought I’d comment as I am currently re-buying The Sims 2 on Disk 💿 so this series is helping me right now, love it, it’s better than sims 3 which I own too 🥰🤪
If I remember right, the box is a shadow issue, if you change the quality, it will be fixed, I had to deal with that when I first got the Sims 2 Collection.
This series makes me want to play the Sims 2 again!

just re-downloaded my sims 2 today with its expansion packs since my last game which was like 6 or 7 years ago. and yet i like this better than the sims 4 hohoho
The big black box is your graphics card. There was a thread on MTS about solving that. One reason was a Nvidia update driver back around September broke things and people had to roll back. The newer update in November is supposed to be okay.

Sims 2 on console was the Sims game I played the most. The story mode is awesome. I miss the story mode going to all the premade houses.
