Consider a set of Rugged Ridge hood latches, the name reminded me of them. It’s best piece of mind that you do, positive latches make great insurance. I run Steinjager limb riser cables is why I installed the latches, but after the first time of locking them down, it was a relief I can’t explain, no more worries about passing a semi on a two lane road relying on rubber. If you run any brushy tracks, consider their limb riser cables
How is it holding up for you or how has it held up for you by chance? Looking into this or a bumper tire carrier but I like the idea of only having to replace a tailgate if I was rear-ended rather than having frame damage haha
I have the same Aev wheels but mine are chrome :) would love to get a set like yours but I am sure there’s no way to find any in Australia? I’ll get the carrier thanks for the video
man I'm glad you showed that right there because I was getting ready to buy one and I've been looking at that one but there's another one I've been looking at and I think I like the one you bought better and I appreciate your channel you're not out here trying it up Run It Up and Down rocks and trying to prove how much you can tear it up like some of these people are doing with these Jeeps. Some people must have a lot of money to waste are there any insurance companies one I'm blue if I ever find out insurance companies are paying off on some of these Jeeps.
Hi Darryl. Great video & shots of the Jeep. It’s been awhile since the install. What are your thoughts on the concerns you mentioned regarding the removal of the rubber pieces that press against the stock tire mount? Is the design solid or does the tire stick out too far thus putting excess weight on the tailgate? Thanks so much ✌️
No, the hinge bolts flat to the tub and door and the carrier bolts over a flat area at the end of the hinge. Think they've done it this way to give the carrier the best rigidity possible.
For those of you wondering. It works on stock carrier and imo way more durable than being 4 inches out with HD carrier putting extra strain on your tailgate.
I'm carrying approx a 33" on mine, so far so good. It's definitely stronger combined with the hinge. i wouldn't be getting the tyre bracket by itself though.
Depends on what state you are in. A 2" lift and 31-32" tyre won't even get you looked at as long as you have mudflaps on the rear and no poke on the tyres.
@@DarrylSheather yeh sure, im thinking about getting a tj but with all the mods i would like to do... it would void insurance and be illegal. How do you deal with insurance? Have you thought about getting your tj engineer approved/certified?
@@jarrydreynolds6937 If you are going 35's with flat flares and a body lift. Yep target central. Mines insured with the mods, currently I don't feel it needs to be engineered at its just a tyre swap. However, it will going forward :)
@@DarrylSheather yeh sure, changes to tyres and suspension obviously affect the handling and braking so getting it engineered for further mods would be a good move. Looking forward to further vids, very entertaining and informative. Not many good tj series in Aus!

Just ordered this last week. Looking forward to getting it on
Hey George, sounds great!
@@DarrylSheather already done! Took about an hour. Your video inspired me. Wish I could post a photo but you know what it looks like
Awesome work!

Glad you got some info out of the video Harold. Thanks for watching!

So far it's all good. Still solid, no rattles and seemingly no stress on the tailgate with the upgraded hinge. Still happy with it.
Coms Ariel? What do you want to mount on the flat part of the tire carrier?
UHF radio
i miss Australia soooo much!!!! do you have a review of longevity ?
It's still working as it was so all good.
Awesome video! Did the 3rd brake light come included?
No, its an AEV JK one
How has it held up after a couple of years? Does it stick out too far? Does it damage your tailgate when you do steep climbs?
Still good, no issues whatsoever.
Hello from the USA! Really admire your Jeep. What make/model are the rims ?
AEV Pintlers in the TJ stud pattern. Unfortunately,r they now only make them to suit the later models.
@@DarrylSheather Well damn. Oh well. Thanks for the info. Did you end up completing the trailer?
could you bolt the tire carrier under the hinge instead of applying the spacers?
No, the hinge bolts flat to the tub and door and the carrier bolts over a flat area at the end of the hinge. Think they've done it this way to give the carrier the best rigidity possible.
Would you recommend the hinge component upgrade and leave the OEM wheel carrier?
No they work together. Look at the Morryde hinge if you wish to use the OEM carrier
@@DarrylSheather odd, the advertisement says it works with OEM carrier too.

is this new carrier any stronger? can it hold 33×12.50?

How’s it holding up?
No issues to speak of, still the same as the day I installed it.
Hey Daryl, is your ride height legal with those tyres and lift kit? A stock TJ rides quite low... :/
