The new BMW X3 M50 xDrive boasts a powerful and advanced engine, the B58B30M2, which is enhanced by the latest Efficient Dynamics Next technology. This engine employs the innovative Miller combustion cycle and features redesigned intake ports and combustion chambers for improved performance. It also includes upgraded systems for injection, ignition, and exhaust, along with advanced camshaft timing, utilizing the eVANOS system. Notably, the engine has a robust crankshaft, optimized oil cooling for the pistons, and improved bearing components. The turbocharging system and charge air cooling have been upgraded, and dual injection has been introduced to optimize the fuel-air mixture based on load conditions.
Combining this engine with a 48V mild hybrid system, the X3 M50 xDrive delivers a total output of 393 horsepower and a peak torque of 428 lb-ft. The hybrid system includes a crankshaft-mounted starter generator that enhances acceleration and efficiency. The electric motor within the eight-speed Steptronic transmission can either boost the engine’s power or reduce its workload depending on driving needs. This setup also benefits from a specifically designed, rigid engine mounting that ensures quick response.
