Composed in 1979 by the living Spanish composer Salvador Brotons, this sonata includes a dreamy opening 'Lento cantabile', followed by the flute cadenza which is full of character, and links directly into the breath-taking 'Presto' finale, a rhythmically driven tour de force for both players, broken only by a reminder of the opening 'lento' before rushing to an exhilarating climax.
