  • She floats!
14 months ago I bought this 40 year old sailing yacht thinking 3 months and I'll be away..
Unfortunately issues with mechanical, electrical, plumbing, rigging and restoring interiors termite damage prevents me from following the dream. Not to mention unscrupulous contractor's...
I'm not giving up and hopefully this year I'll actually get to go sailing.
    Yesterday's splashing was picture perfect..
    Almost without any drama..
Arrived at the new marina as a storm hit which tried to ruin the day as wind swept me across the entrance came within a few meters of crashing into a cement retaining wall. Got her turning just in time only to have the wind then blast me towards the dock.
I had planned on facing east towards the entrance but the wind blew me the opposite way. At the last second I ran up and lept off the bow onto the dock tripping on the safety lines miraculously landing on my feet and using all my strength to push her away from crashing into the dock which would of caused serious damage.
Just as I thought it'll contact 3 workers ran up and helped push off and tie up.
Everything had been going perfectly until the last 3 minutes.
After we tied up the skies opened upon us with torrential rain.
A fellow sailor borrowed an old 3 meter tender with a 15hp motor to help me move.
Good thing because it is three times stronger than my little 2.2m with a 6hp motor.
There's no doubt Everything would of gone sideways without the stronger motor.
After the rain let up we headed back to get my car. Halfway I checked the fuel and it was on fumes 😆 fortunately I had brought 5ltrs extra but the motor was a two stroke and there was no oil to mix... I said it was running rich so it should be OK to put a little in an not push the motor....
Made it back puttering along with another storm approaching.
I am now exhausted but relieved to see her floating and being in this new location is wonderful.
Cats are cautiously curious about the new location. Froth the mom cats a bit freaked out. Malee boy was cautious but fearlessly walked around the deck and Sandee his sister soon joined with a little encouragement.
Now they sleep contentedly on and under the table. 🐈

No engine? Ugh, I do not envy you! Amazing how fast "I'll have the anchor down in an hour" changes to "I guess I'll be awake all night chasing puppy yawn winds trying to stay off the rocks ."

@@romeowhiskey1146 engine 😉 though for most people it's the same thing.
Mine is a ancient isuzu 240c diesel. Probably from 1960s.
The engine has been sitting for over 3 years as this SV was abandoned due to covid.
I opened the tappet cover to pour a little oil in to lubricate it and discovered broken valve spring. At this stage I've removed all electrical wiring and haven't rewired it.
I'm trying to borrow money to get it rebuilt.
9000 hours on the clock. Along with the broken spring has me concerned about how much life's left in it.
If I can't borrow money to rebuild I'll install a new spring.
Wiring is a mess. This project has been a year of struggles and stress but I'm still moving forward knowing the day I set sail it will all be worthwhile.
