M and P Bodyguard with Crimson Trace laser grip is a fantastic gun. This is the laser that turns on when you grip the gun, not the one where you have to push a button to activate it.
The secret to the Bodyguard heavy trigger is to use the first joint of your finger instead of just the pad of your finger you would use on most triggers. Also adding a +1 grip extension gives a full grip and 7 +1 rounds. Great accuracy at 7 yards with this set up.

I am a former LEO and long-time 2nd amendment practitioner. The M&P Bodyguard 380 is fantastic! I have one with and one without the manual thumb safety. I carry it in a Safariland leather pocket holster ALL day long and don't even know it's there. When I'm not at work and just around the house or running errands most of the time it's in sweatpants or workout clothes. Again, this pistol goes with me and nobody knows it's there. 6+1 of quality 380 is nothing to sneeze at. Great for rock solid program compliance. I work in an industry where I'm not supposed to carry at work. However, it's located in one of the most dangerous cities in the state I live in so I do carry. Nobody ever knows the gun is there and, at the end of the day, that's how a pocket gun is supposed to be. Unknown until it's time to present it. If you haven't shot one I strongly suggest you do.

Good job! Personally, after 13 years of concealed carry experience, I wouldn't put the G43 or LC9s among my favorites picks for pocket carry. I think they're too big. Don't get me wrong, I can jam a G26 in my pocket (I don't wear skinny jeans), but I still think the other two smaller guns are a little too big to be best choices in the pocket. The Ruger LCP II is pretty good, but I prefer sights with contrast.
I have a S&W M&P Bodyguard 380. The trigger is amazing for the FIRST shot. In other words, it is smooth, but more important, I can pull the trigger with zero front sight disruption (it's very accurate). Its trigger is actually better than the six Glocks I've had (again, for the first shot). I can pull its trigger as well as any gun, but rapid fire is where any DAO trigger is going to lose accuracy. That said, these are for up close and dirty, and I prefer belt guns most of the time anyway like my G26 and SIG P229 Enhanced Elite (again, it's not like I don't have a tolerance for larger guns). I also prefer DAO for the pocket when I do carry that way because it's easy to forget and jam something in your pocket that could get caught in a holstered trigger guard if it's of the plush variety as kydex isn't very comfortable or concealable in the pocket in my experience (I stopped using my Alabama pocket holster that Hickok45 recommends).
That said, the shootability of the G42, coupled with its diminutive size compared with the G43, is something I've always had an interest in trying out. The Bodyguard won out, however, because it is the smallest gun that is comfortable in my hand, and I threw some XS Big Dots on it. I don't prefer those sights on larger guns, but they work exceptionally well for pocket rockets.
Btw, I am glad you did not include the SIG Sauer P365. That gun has a lot of potential, but I would not trust it anytime soon. The kind of problems it has had are going to require a track record with many rounds before I would ever trust it. They should have made it available in .380 which is less punishing on the gun. People should not underestimate that round. It's very effective and perfect for light pocket rockets. SIG's P365 ammo, btw, is technically less powerful than Underwood's .380 Xtreme Defence rounds (by only 1 or 2 foot lbs). That says a lot when a gun manufacturer produces a .380-like 9mm round for one of its firearms.

One of My favorite "pocket guns" is a S&W model 437 .38 revolver. I'll take 5 rounds of 124 gr .38+p semijacketed flatnose over 6 rounds of .380 in a Bigger semiauto. The 437 is an airweight, tipping the scales at 14 oz. and with the FDE rubber combat grip on it you get a really good purchase on the gun. It's Very comfortable to carry. Never discount the Usefulness of a revolver, they ARE still a viable platform for personal Defense. 👍🏻

Huge bodyguard 380 fan here , absolutely love mine , carry it everyday . mine is the no safety version ... I like the trigger myserlf , long and heavy but I like that in a pocket gun .. If your used to shooting revolvers in double action its easy to be accurate .
Most amazing thing about the gun is the grip and texturing , feels like a bigger gun in the hand

  • @sevenwonders1717
    @sevenwonders1717 6 ปีที่แล้ว +20

Ok, I still gave a 👍, and maybe I missed a weight or price limit, but I am amazed that the Sig p238 is not on your list. This gun shoots softer than anything on your list. It might be heavier (?) but more often than not, I forget it is in my pocket (in a Sticky Holster.) I know you don't prefer a manual safety, but I have mine off before it is half way to the shooting position (don't even think about it anymore.) Plus, it is ridiculously accurate. Downsides... More $ than the guns on your list, and once you own and shoot one, you end up buying another... And another.

I would caution on the bodyguard. Size and shape are incredible for extreme light and small carry. Ironically, it is not uncomfortable in the hand at all. However, the trigger is the worst I've ever experienced. The stiffness is part of the problem. The other problem is where it breaks. Its a long travel, and does not break until all the way back. Several times the skin on my finger would get in the way of being able to fire it. I am sure that repetition and practice would help. But that could be an issue in a stress situation.

Kahr CW380. Small, light, amazingly accurate, comfortable grip size (I added a Talon Grip), easy to shoot. DeSantis (Super Fly?) pocket holster in one front pocket, DeSantis Mag Holster in the opposite front pocket and it’s something I don’t have to struggle with to get ready; thus it’s always with me in my cargo shorts (home carry, people!). It can then be a jacket pocket gun in cooler weather with the same carry rig. Winter will now be a little different story, maybe, now that I’ve discovered Sticky Holsters. And, yes, I’ve had an LC9, Shield and shot my cousin’s LCP. It’s Kahr for me.

Love the Ruger LC options. Mine is the LC380, fits well in my pocket in a Desantis pocket holster with the pinky extension. Same size as the LC9 but chambered in .380 and the recoil is almost nonexistent. It's also the easiest gun slide to rack that I have ever known. A great pocket / truck gun over all. I also have a Glock 42 with +2 extended magazines from Vickers Tactical (I highly recommend these) which I like as well for the same reasons.

Thank you for this video.....well done. In the winter when I wear a heavy coat my carry gun is a full size 1911....definitely NOT a pocket-rocket! Otherwise my favorite is a J-frame Smith. It's a 6-38 with a shrouded hammer. This gives me the option of single action or double. Yes it is restricted to 5 rounds but I do carry and train with a speed loader. I feel very warm and fuzzy with either.........

A comment about Sportman's Guide: back some years ago (1990's): I bought a repro '51 Colt cap n ball revolver from them, followed up by a '58 Remington copy (both Italian manufacture); the Colt was great but the Remington had some serious manufacturing defects. I contacted Sportsman's Guide and they gladly took back the Remington for a full refund, no questions asked. Can't ask for better customer service than that.

If you can't train yourself to flip the safety on the Ruger as you draw it, you have a problem. You can do it as you draw in one motion. It would still be ready by the time you aim. The safety on the Ruger LC9 is super easy to work. You barely have to reach up with your thumb.

I have both the LCP II and the LC9s and I find I carry them more often than my G26 or G19. They both work reliably and the accuracy is pretty good for small pistols. I think for the money you couldn't go wrong with either or both. I agree the LCP II is not a plinker you're going to fire all afternoon but it's super concealable even in light clothing. Thanks for the review.

Add the Sig P238 and S&W 911...both very similar. I had similar dislike for the manual safety (when I've since gotten over), so for years I carried a Kahr P380 which is perfect size/design for pocket carry...and just enough weight to be enjoyable to shoot. BUT, I had repeated feed reliability issues that I and a couple of gunsmith's could never reconcile. So, I swapped out the K for the Sig (the S&W wasn't on the shelf yet when I bought) and the S has run like a top. I hope my Kahr was just a one-off problem, as they are great designs for carry and enjoyable to shoot. All three should be on your radar if you need to pocket-carry.

Always thought “pocket rocket” refers to small fast cars; STI’s, Evo’s, GTI’s and the like. Anyway, when anyone states best of something, that anyone should end the phrase with “for me”. I live in Miami, FL; hot and muggy 35o out of 365. I wear shorts and a T-shirt to work, so 80% of my time out is with light clothing. At work my shorts are cargo shorts, however I move around loading and driving trucks. The only guns in this list I would even consider to pocket carry are the bodyguard and the LCP2. I carry a bodyguard in my pocket, however it’s the 38 Special wheel gun. Sometimes in a de Santis pocket holster, sometimes by itself. I need a lightweight, heavy trigger, inconspicuous gun. I considered the LCR, especially in 327 Fed Magnu, one more round and more power, got the M&P... no complaints. Advantages? Double action hammer less, the reliability of a revolver, can shoot inside pocket, and again if need be.

If you're so unaware of your surroundings and the threats facing you that the difference between you surviving or dying is the tiny fraction of a second it takes your thumb to flip off a safety (which can be done as part of your draw stroke) then you need to get your head out of the clouds and pay more attention to your surroundings so that you recognize potential threats soon enough to take effective defensive action.

Nice video, I have and carry, depending on what I'm wearing, both the LC9S and LCP. You're right the LC9S is good as a pocket gun as well as IWB and is not a chore to take to the range. The LCP is a great pocket gun but I have to make myself take it to the range every few months to put a box of ammo through it. It's a snappy little beast. Another gun I carry both in the pocket and IWB is my Walther PPS M2. With it's 6 round mag it's not much bigger than the LC9s and it's a comfortable IWB gun with any of the (6, 7, or 8 round) mags. Thanks again for the review on pocket rockets.

Congrats on the sponsorship. Great video as usual. If I’m going to carry a pocket rocket it will likely be a Kahr 380 or an LCR in 38 special. Disagree with you on manual safety. Just about every pistol I’ve carried over the last 35 years has had a manual safety and I assure you that is soon as I complete my draw stroke the safety is off. It’s a matter of training and more training. Besides if the bad guy already has the drop on you it won’t make much difference he’s going to get the first shot regardless. The key is making sure you shoot back with effect. Thanks for sharing.
