I remember when first watching Julie and Luke it was so annoying how they interrupted each other and Julie was so hyper. But I am used to it now, this is just how they work, I like it and love and admire Julie’s energy, she is lots of fun. They both work so hard to keep Mapperton going and save its history. I enjoyed this look-back vlog.
When you're making jams and jellies, you can't leave them! It's not a question of cooking time, but reaching the setting point and redcurrant jelly is the easiest to make as the fruit already has a ton of pectin in it (so will set quickly and easily).

The Muniment Room was definitely one your your HUGE triumphs this past year -- watching it unfold, it must be said it was such a triumph due to Julie's (and her band of decorators, builders, generally amazing people) HUGE effort -- and to get it complete in time for the Earl's big birthday -- well done!

My favourite disaster was the jelly making 😂. I remember that from before. I loved watching it again, made me laugh, 😂 a good way to bring in the new year! The Triumph, to me, has to be the re-wilding, all of it. To let the land naturally repair itself, bring back animal species that would originally have been there. It is all wonderful.
I was waiting to hear if you hit the number of visitors that you set a goal for. Even if you didn't make it I believe a triumph would be all the areas that were made for the kids to play in. Also, you Christmas market was better that last year, that's a triumph. Whether or not it's fortunate I'm not sure, however all the tragedies were nature driven. Looking forward to spending the next year with everyone at Mapperton.
I feel like I have walked hand in hand with you on this marvelous journey of restoring your magnificent home, preserving history and bringing back land and at risk species that were hunted or nearly bred out of existence. Just like the 1986 movie the Money Pit, you must be made of incredibly stern stuff to take on a mission such as this. About that algae. When I lived at the coast, I would gather seaweed after storms, rinse with fresh water, and use as mulch in my organic garden. Fantastic micronutrients. I learned that trick from John Adam in Founding Gardeners because as early as the American Revolution the soils in the colonies were overworked. Algae is much the same. I have a very few plants I can trace to Colonial Days. In Wilmington, NC, rice from colonial rice plantations can still be seen growing along the Cape Fear River bank if you know what to look for. Plants, animals, food, successes and yes disasters unite us. May 2024 be a banner year.

We bardo much algae despite everything and then I heard about aquatic fleas. Daphne and I bought over 10 boxes of them and emptied them into Hawk now, and the company said it would take three months to clear and they were right it was sparkling. But the fleas cannot stand the fountains as they will be sucked into it. Hope this helps.
Will you ever consider redoing the front gate and garden? Will you ever change any of the planting details? Is that the garden / flowers Luke’s mother’s area?

What a challenging year. But, I agree with Luke. Even though our brains are wired to pay more attention to the negative, you've got to emphasize the positive. If you still have a roof over your head and any amount of cash in the bank, it's not a disaster. We could easily have been among the folks who've lost their homes to war or rising oceans this year...
