I'm not typically moved by these kinds of videos. I have to say though, I'm sold on this one. Hungtington looks better than I thought it might. I didn't expect to learn it's got bigger city types of attractions. I'm looking at Charleston WV as well.

If you are set on WV. You DO NOT want to live in Huntington.
Unless you don't mind needles everywhere and dope heads wandering around all hours of the night everynight. Looking for stuff to steal.
Charleston would be a better choice. But not by much honestly.

Take it from someone who lived there for 20 years Huntington wv is a big pile of trash. Huntingtons best days were 60+ years ago There is no future there, the drug problem is terrible from my understanding they might still hold the record for herion overdoses in a day, crime rate is terrible, infrastructure is terrible, healthcare is terrible, little to no good paying jobs, high poverty rate. I could go on and on. You only see a small part of downtown and marshall on this video and most of the buildings downtown are more then 50% vacant or completely abandoned. Go down 8th ave. Goto Westmoreland, goto guyandotte, highlawn, and i bet youll change your mind. Huntington wv is dead

The city of Huntington should follow the example of other college towns and grow in prosperity and success. Ann Arbor (The University of Michigan), Columbus (Ohio State University) and quite a few other places have been able to turn their economies around based on the endeavors that the university had, be it sports, medicine, law, technology, and/or business. The city and the university must go hand in hand with one another for the good of the people who live, work, and play there.

Huntington west virginia public transportation needs much improvement to work on once an hour and only until 6 pm is inadequate to say the least
If you want to be a top tier small city public transit should be open until bars close and much more frequent at least until 10 pm 7 days a week 365 days a year there is good and bad with every city video is not misleading those things probably do happen but city is not addressing the potential downsides of growth and does not be proactive on issues associated with gentrification be anti gentrification it helps no one from a long Beach California resident

No official is going to tell you about the bad things! It’s meant to get you to visit, attend college, work for the hospitals. I’ve lived in Cincinnati, Ohio...much worse than Huntington. I grew up there in Huntington and then moved away for college elsewhere. Many businesses have moved out. The hospitals have merged...and not really for a good reason. I still go back there and have family there. Have many good memories of Huntington. It is a very pretty town, has much to offer but needs much help. If I had to pick a place to live...Yes, I would definitely consider it.

Growing up on 8th Avenue taught me a great deal! I hate gangs, drugs, drunks and do what I feel is necessary to protect my loved ones. Marshall is taking over many of the areas there....good or bad. It still has good history in that town and has lots to enjoy.

@@the.porter.productions Going from 85,000 in population in 1950 to near 46-48,000 today. We absolutely need better leadership and it needs to be as business friendly as possible so that people will migrate here for work and to start businesses so that the youth will stay to enjoy economic prosperity and opportunities.
The drugs have alleviated in past years, but still is top issue. And there are many more panhandlers similar to what we saw in 2008-09 due to the unrecognized recession the country is in.
I've thought about moving myself, but I've changed my mind. This place has way too much potential to leave behind and I'm going to do what I can to create jobs in this city and it's metro area instead of fleeing it to find prosperity elsewhere. We need people here with drive and creativity. It would be great to have you return to your roots! Become a figure here and we can connect.

@@spaulding304 🇺🇸 I wasn’t aware that the population had dwindled that much. My dad had several businesses there in Huntington. He went from a book store, to furniture store, transfer company, hubcaps & auto parts, car sales and even a grocery store. The city made it rough on him in the late 70s & 80s, so he packed up & moved to Chesapeake. I saw many companies shut down & move around those years as well. I went off to college & just never returned. I still have family there & go frequently to visit. Some of my friends have informed me of the drug issues. That’s a shame. The college & drugs are the only things that seem to have prospered. It is quite a beautiful city even yet & has such great potential! I sure agree with you on that. It would take a large collective of people to change things there…law enforcement, government, businesses & even individuals who have the backbone like Buford Pusser to make lasting changes. It has much history. Thanks for the comments.🥰🤩✌️

I visit where I grew up...always packing, and it reminds me of how blessed I am now and makes me appreciate my life more. Some areas are still the same as when I left and some even better. I'm from Huntington........ raised in that city and all my family still live in Huntington. Marshall university is ALL that city lives for!! EVERYTHING is Marshall, from the clothes you buy and wear to the color car you buy and drive.... It's really pathetic to be honest. The once thriving industry in Huntington is long gone and that school IS IT! you can't do ANYTHING in Huntington without SOMETHING being Marshall. If that school were to pack up and move, you could turn the lights off and roll up the carpet, all you'd hear are crickets and people looking for their next high on dope!! For Christ sake, there HAS TO BE something other than Marshall for the city of Huntington....... The addiction epidemic is out of control, the elected officials could give two shits about the safety and welfare of its citizens. The mayor forces Layoff's from the City police dept. and dangerously stretches the manpower at the police dept. thin. Don't forget the fire dept. as well. They suffered layoff's also. If that city don't figure out something fast, the best course of action IS turning the lights out and letting it go!! Come on residence of Huntington, find that solution and make that city into what it was in the past!! in the 80's and 90's, Huntington was just as good a place as any to raise a healthy happy family, BUT NOT ANYMORE!
