Conan is a master of turning stress dreams into sketches.
I feel like this is an apt summation
Definitely felt like a bizarre fever dream XD don't see that on TV much
@@bernlin2000 now that you said it, i remembered how fever dreams are like ,lol so bizzare, like this, so random and odd lol
🙋💆
@@FrankEly28 fever dreams are a thing? When I get my monthly visit I usually get a headache that's when the weird vivid dreams come in place. Lol
Oh man, imagine if they'd have saved this idea for whenever Conan ends up retiring his show. This would be a god-tier ending.
That would have been glorious
Im probably wrong but this might have been when he got canceled from NBC
Bro shouldve saved this to use for its legendary finish
@@garret1658 Nah this was 1998, which would have been around 10 years before the whole NBC fallout
With how many shows he's had now, I bet he could do it again and nobody would notice :-P
Cuts to empty audience
The audience: awwww
Ghosts
Audience viewing an audience
What a strange dark ending. It's refreshing.
Felt like a finale.
Film noir-ish.
I thought this was a sketch for his final show because he got cancelled back in the day or something lol. The ending did feel like he was actually saying goodbye lmao
I would not be surprised to learn Louis CK had a hand in this bit, based on the shows he eventually went on to make.
"strange" "dark" "refreshing"
what😂
Andy could definitely pass for an FBI office worker.
Exactly. If they all look like the Rock, the FBI would be screwed.
What makes you think he was lying?
He did play a double agent in an episode of "Chuck" (he was a member of The Ring).
Plus his brother Rocky Richter is already a undercover agent
"Cooperman. Nick Cooperman" Even that was convincing!
3:28 “we’re going infiltrate a big southwestern Methamphetamine ring” Conan was actually a Breaking Bad prequel
AYO! 🤔
Andy would change him name to Hank and the rest is history.
One of the best Conan sketch ever...
bummer I was hoping they were all this good
Definitely. They totally went all out on this one
I admire the full commitment from everyone involved.
this is when I can totally tell that Conan was a Simpson's writer!
Conan didnt write this
@@Zetsuke4 How do you know
@@brodjefferson3513 Because there are writers who write this it isnt just comprised of Conan
Because dude's name was Chief Wiggum
@@page__kevon7038 He could of wrote it. This is one of the best late night sketches I've seen.
I remember seeing this on tv as a kid and thinking it was brilliant. I've searched for it on the internet many times but with no success. Finally, 22 years later, it pops up in my recommended videos.
Ah that should feel amazing
The feeling better than smashing
Aha! That's all I needed to hear. You've dodged us for 22 years, Grunwalski, but this trip down Memory Lane leads to the big house. Get him, boys!
I’m 22 wtf
Still holds up, amazing writing
I love Conan’s personality. It can go from being a deranged, narcissistic egomaniac to a self-hating joke in the blink of an eye.
throw in "delightfully wholesome" in there somewhere also.
I remember this one! I think when they came back from commercial, the set and the audience was back to normal and everyone acted like nothing had happened. It was so funny!
When they came back Conan said something like "Nick said I could keep doing the show."
Obviously... because it's perfectly logical to assume this was all recorded at the end after everybody had left anyway.
LOL this was before commercial break
That's interesting, I always wondered if this was a bit for the end of a series where they intended to change the shows set as they did for many years. But I guess not then if they brought it all back.
When he got rid of the little room looking set in the corner, and had the traditional skylines and what looked to be bigger, things started feeling right. He was still funny in that first desk and backdrop but it looked like something from a PBS show.
@@lqprimetime4169 I loved that they had photographs of previous late night talk show hosts on that first set including Jack par and David letterman.
Really gets down to Conan's deep insecurities/imposter syndrome
Right? I felt that too
imposter
sussy baka syndrome
conan should do amogus clueless gamer on hbo
Sure but he didn’t write it
If you are long time Conan fan, you might know that Conan has tough days for first 3-4 years by network an critics. And since you know that, this comedy bit is genuine conquest of his past struggles. It's sad, but other side, beauty of him. Love you CONAN! :)
Yesss!
He's the most funniest late night host ever. His years on TBS are golden although we can't watch him in India.
Aryan K they are?
Nah it was just the first year
The same thing happened to Conan years later with Detective Leno
Too soon 😥
Haha good one 😂😂
That guy was crooked as hell, it’s “ACAB” for a reason and he’s it
the best part about conan is getting to feel like you discovered these old bits by yourself. best late night ever
He didn't even bother to ask what his brother was wanted for. Shows how much he cares.
Oh he knows.
La Bamba in the FBI jacket but still wearing his fedora is the kind of attention to detail that made this show incredible.
Back in college, I had a VHS tape that I'd use to record these segments after the first commercial but before the first guest. I'd rewind and record over the last night's section if I didn't like it enough. Needless to say, the tape is full of amazing bits. This, and the embryonic, polka-doted, rockabilly fighter-pilots song, were among the most prized of my recorded segments.
Same here! I've transferred them all to digital now.
Put it in TH-cam
@@marcossantana1312 team Coco will.
Upload them sir
I want to see that shitttt
One of the best bit of Late Night. Meta at its best.
pretty sure thats not what meta is
@@skyluke9476 Yeahh my comment is meta actually.
@@mnfdslpo umm meta is about refrencing the same genre this is more what people would refer to as a Parody but theirs another term that closer than Parody but i forget the term.
Meta would be A TV show making a Tv show eithin a tv show, u feel me?
this is CROSS genre, thats not meta.
Conan is such a jerk. He didn't mention to his mother that his long lost brother showed up and was arrested?
Probably didn't want to upset her.
That's an in-person conversation.
He could have asked for his brother's room!
He actually called his real brother and talking in code, told him that the Feds fell for the trap.
The old 5 year, imposter brother con. Easiest way to flush out the rats. An Irish classic.
@@michaelt475 What a turn, I didn't see that coming.
This was one of the smartest late night sketches ever written.
This one would be a badass series finale
1:33 "We're all FBI son." hahaha
Watching this one skit not only reminds me of how great the humor of the NBC Late Night era was but also helps me realize that the current half hour TBS era is a return to form of sorts to this level of comedy.
Also, this skit would’ve made for a killer end to the Late Night era 11 years ago.
Yep
Suddenly Eric Andre sprints to the stage and busts up the set.
It’s the Eric Andre showwwwwwww
I remember when Jimmy Fallon did his Lost parady it ended as the Arsenio Hall Show.
He's such a good actor I forgot this was a joke 😂 😂 😂... I love you Conan
One of the best late nite skits ever. The concept, the acting, the effort, they nailed everything
This has his old, weird simpsons feel to it. Love it.
I like how Conan goes from his “hey that’s my brother” to “what about my show.”
Did NOT expect that ending!
This was like an alternate take on The King of Comedy or something.
I feel like I just saw an entire movie.
I love the old clips so much, really fun to see how it all started.
This was the saddest thing I've ever seen. And I saw his last Tonight Show episode.
I really expected him to call his brother in the end telling him that the FBI took the bait and won´t bother him anymore. xD
Love it!!!!
Free Scott O'Brien!
Turd Ferguson Welp, the President has been on a pardoning spree of old convictions lately. I bet if you added famous celebrity Conan O’Brien’s brother to the list, it wouldn’t even raise an eyebrow.
pitui1987 we should really petition for Scott O’Brien’s pardon, to see if he actually goes for it. It’d be a laugh, one of a precious few for sure
Conan is the best. No one comes close. This is a god tier sketch. Just amazing.
This would have been a great way to end the show.
Seriously
Yea ends abruptly, and were all scratching our heads, was that real or staged?
This weird bizarre comedy works so well. I love it.
Conan seemed to lose concern for his “brother” real quick. 😆
Conan is a honeypot of humor. They don’t make late night like this anymore. Well done 👏
Jordan Schlansky was the ringleader, but he didn't prepare Conan in various ways for this.
And I'm seeing this after the actual show ends it makes me cry.😭
This is one of the greatest bits of all time. The whole team should be proud of this piece and I personally enjoyed the dark humor.
THIS is how the TBS show should have ended
No.
@@bmla88 no
This ending is Canon in my mind
This is an absolute gem of a sketch!
The laughs made me 😂😂 he said undercover killed me😂
Conan should create his own streaming service showing all his full late night episodes in order. I would totally buy it
This is an amazing bit
I know its for comedy, but i was hooked on this whole vid, it was kind of depressing, still hilarious though lol
Omg such a classic skit!! The audience part killed me lol
that was so sad, the way it ended. his entire world came crashing down!
This. Performances & skits like these will be the reason why Conan will be long remembered as the gold standard for every modern Late night TV host.
Late night had the best comedy stretches. You always knew you were going to get something memorable and funny.
That’s some comedy work. 10 for creativity
There is a strong Simpsons vibe to this, the way people were talking and berating Conan. A+
1.Does Conan Really Have an Older Brother?
2.Was That Really Him in The Audience?
1. As Conan often says, he's the middle of 6 kids (to which Tony Randall once replied, "there is no middle of 6"). Two of his 3 brothers are older than him.
2. Probably not.
@@DarkGob 1.I Forgot
2.Bummer,he Was Hot
He has mentioned that he has a brother named Scott but I'm not sure that's him. He looks too similar to Conan.
@@adamnordmark7709 ok
@@cjhs2006 ok!
The most touching Late Night skit ever!
We all love these old school vids, don’t we?
God it was all crazy edgy fun
Its a good show since 1993, conan let his guest talk doesnt interrupt and doesnt make fake laughs actually its more of a decent talk show where you learn and laugh too.
Thanks conan
In a parallel universe, this is how I wish Conan ended the "Tonight Show" if it lasted a few years longer
And from that day forward, no one ever heard from Conan O'Brien again. Some swear that if one listens hard enough, one can still hear the uncomforable chuckles in his now abandoned studio...
I hadn't seen this for 22 years, but I always remembered it. Thanks for digging it up and posting it!
ha ha 1:13 La Bamba moving the desk
When you realize that he uses that phone not for comedic effect but because that's actually the phones they used back in '98
2:47 "You're my boy, Blue!" :(
labamba still has his hat on as an FBI agent lol
This is so surreal, especially the ending. They’re very smart and creative for doing this I would’ve loved to see what the next show was like and they’re all just kidding
This wasn't the end of the show, it happened just before the commercial break. When they came back, everything was back to normal and they carried on like nothing had happened.
This is the most iconic Conan moment of all time.
I love that Conan quickly forgets that his brother has been sentenced to jail.
One of my all time favorite moments. I hadn't realized how early in the show's life this was.
This is funnier 23 years later.
Goodbye Conan, you were one hell of a FBI stooge.
Best premise to a sketch I’ve seen, classic Conan
that ending is how i picture jimmy fallon finally ending
Nah jimmy fallon wouldnt be able to pull this off as good as conan did
@@lustrouspinetree9259 he meant for real ending...
Lustrous Pinetree i mean his real ending, Conan in my eyes was the last genuinely funny talk show host so I do agree with you there
@@koolerpure Trevor Noah is good too.
@@koolerpure ah i see what you mean!
Best skit I've ever seen on the show. Meta before we knew what that was and that makes it proto-meta. A new form of meta!
RIP Brian Reich
Imagine if they recreated this for conan’s final show
many will cry
ahhhh i was looking for this not too long ago.. i remembered it much the way it aired all the way back then
They should release a dvd full of late night sketches. One before first guest and last guest I believe.
Why did this make me cry
They've been SO good for so long.
Thanks Brian Reich for one of the best skits. RIP
These old clips are the best. 😁😁😁
Is the Black FBI arresting agent, Dennis Haysbert? That voice is pretty much unmistakeable.
Also, this is my favorite late night bit of all time. Simple idea but incredibly well executed.
What I love is that according to the intro, Flea is still yet to perform in this episode after this sketch 🤣
Skits like this just make Conan a legend more.
This should have been the final episode of his TBS show.
This feels a lot like the old SNL sketch, The Last Voyage of the Starship Entrerprise. That lonely fading away and nostalgia.
It honestly broke my heart 💔. This deserves an Oscar .... slow clap 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
This can pass as a "Twilight Zone" episode. Dark sad ending.
I wish they would do more skits like this. This was very well done.
Ladies and gentlemen.... We Got Him.
My all time favorite from Conan. Just perfect! Glad I found this.
hahah so damn strange. you can tell Conan wanted to laugh doing that 'well folks' monologue. what a fever dream.
What a Classic
The writing on this is gold!
The audience left but they still reacted lol
I love all Conan content. Thank you for providing my life with joy.
1:13 is that Guillermo from Kimmel?
Holy cow certainly looks like it - great catch! 😂
that sketch should deserve an oscar nomination Conan for being dramatic
OK, this is the most brilliant sketch in late night television history. Sorry, I'm so late to the game world.
This is amazing. What a classic.
