Just so everyone knows, the game doesn't show the gacha rates out of the kindness of its heart. It does that because some countries legally require it to do so.
That's true, but they could easily turn that info off in countries where there is no such law. The fact, that they don't do it is a plus in my opinion. And as lemon said, you don't need to gamble to play.
I didn't expect that the video about the new Hoyo game from Challenge Runner would turn out to be one of the best in terms of information, and I'm quite stuck in the Gatcha bubble. Well done Mr Lemon
This is why these sorts of sponsorships work so well: the game awards trailer, all the news I was hearing, none of it made me care that much, but this? Five minutes in and I'd registered, just from actually seeing someone... play. That's much better.
For all people watching the video, the game is out now and there have been a lot of improvements since lemon made the video including missions NOT taking energy anymore.
@@TheOneWhoReportsForDuty You would be surprised the answer is kinda yes... Let me explain. Mobile game companies have 2 issues, they want to tackle with limiting playtime being burning out and running out of content so they limit how much you play so they can both keep up on updates and stop you from playing too much you burn out completely.
It went from a "yay this seems good!" to "oh fuck no" from the 2 negatives you called out. I would've paid 60 bucks on release if those 2 mechanics weren't there.
@@mistermustachiogmc1256 The energy requirement is more of a consequence of laws, I believe in China? But Honkai Impact 3rd, their previous title in the ARPG genre, was super generous with Energy, to the point where I think my account was almost always had more than the max amount of energy at all time. So I wouldn't be too concerned about that.
It's funny (and a testament to how good you are at presenting the game) the while watching the video I was already pondering how much I was willing to spend to buy it, either immediately or on sale. So when you dropped that it's F2P eyebrows were raised (and I was also kinda worried for a while, then I realized it's published by the same company as Genshin Impact which is know to be less predatory than most competitors on IAP). Also good job on not commenting on the bouncing jugs, must have been hard!
I decided to come back to this video after playing the game for the past 2 weeks, and this video is pretty much entirely accurate to my experience playing as well. The only thing that seems to be different from what was described is the energy system, which is only depleted by doing repeatable resource farming missions, like those in the VR machine. Everything else can be played as much as you want. Of course you can still pay to get the item that refills your energy, but there's actually a limit to how much energy you can gain from that in a day as well.
It's facinatimg how much changes. Like the home VR missions that teach you how to play the individual characters, as well turning off trial mode letting you bring in your op squad right off the bat, seperating the botbuns from the main group. And requiring materials before you can get the next tier of passive. Curious how that changes your route. And how ya feel on it now. And the energy system getting more lax, only be needed for the VR stuff.
As someone who has played a lot of Honkai Star Rail, I can tell you the monetization there is a _lot_ friendlier than gachas around it. You get a lot of resources playing the game, and the game also gives you a _ton_ of Stellar Jades, which can be used either to refill your energy or try for characters/light cones. It does require patience at many points, but I've yet to encounter anything where it felt like I needed to pay money to progress. Here's hoping the company learned all the right lessons for ZZZ. I'm actually really excited to learn that ZZZ gives you set characters for story sequences. Star Rail is really shy about giving you rental characters for relevant story beats, and it always felt really awkward to have characters deeply involved in events just vanish once the dialogue ended.
I like the idea of giving you characters for story missions, but essentially "powering down" your primary character for those same events feels... strange? It doesnt encourage interacting with the other systems in the game AT ALL. Like, why go spend money on the gacha if i can just do the story missions completely for free. I'd understand more if it was a 40 dollar game that gave you an entire 6 hour storyline, and then also has the gacha stuff in there for re-playability, but it seems strange that a game with the main money maker being the gacha, doesnt give much incentive for interacting WITH the gacha system. Like, i understand giving rental characters, but why not use my versions of characters i already have if they are at/above the base level? It rewards you for interacting with the other systems without outright requiring it for story progression.
@@hyperlink6547 Yeah. The way Star Rail does it, when it does it, is that you can pick between the rental version and the one you have in your account. ZZZ _might_ do it the same way, and Lemon just didn't notice he could swap. There's also likely some big differences between the story version of a level and the "real" version, so you'll likely be back to that area several times anyway.
It's crazy that watching you do your challenges and hearing you talk about a game can so easily make me look it up and wishlist it. Either our tastes are very similar or you're a magic man.
Like you said, with their current money maker, Genshin. I play every morning after I wake up to spend all my resources, do daily quests, and whatever events are currently happening. Also story missions or side quests if they're any that currently not completed(not the case atm sadly) and that usually takes me anywhere from 3 to 4 hours. Typically, I do other things during this period, like watch YT or make breakfast. You can squeeze hundreds of hours of free content out of Hoyoverse games, though. I only ever spend money when there's a character or weapon I REALLY want. Resin which you use for domains, I have NEVER truly ran out. I could refill it at any point with consumables that I've racked up over my hundreds of hours of playtime. In other words, if you know how to play the system, the game will reward you for it in full. As long as you don't mind never getting to touch some of those passive buffs for the rarest characters... leave that for the whales.
EVERY, again, E V E R Y, Hoyo game is a daily casual game, you can do a lot of stuff, but eventaully it falls behind to be a daily playable game. So, it kinda matchs the their default, i just want then to launch a game that i can buy, i would be so happy

Honestly, they would be wasting such a well designed boss if they game him such less health and all the debuffs. Your maid fight shows how much of a difficult enemy that boss can be. Just needs more attack and becoming immune to stuns much, and god that would be an awesome boss fight even with levelled up characters.
