Always practicing the safety procedure sir in this kind of job. Removing first the fuel from the tank as much as you can is much more better and safely.
Mr static if your still wondering, they sale line clamp tools. Its just a pair of pliers that crimps rubber hoses. i use them all the time for coolant purposes. You would just crimp the rubber filler neck hose so gas cant spill out.

How did you keep all the gas in the tank when the fill from the neck goes to the bottom.
