I thoroughly enjoyed Y: The last Man. With so many books in the collection, maybe there can be a poll the geminties can vote on for an upcoming recent reads? Just a thought.✌️
This is my favorite comic series of all time. Infinity Gauntlet is close 2nd. The only time I’ve ever cried reading a comic is with issue #60 of Y. Thanks for the review! I had been eagerly awaiting your opinion.
Seriously considering upgrading from the hardcover volumes to the absolute editions. Not a fan of the phone book paper in those previous volumes. The story for Y though is definitely one of my all time favorite reads and I definitely plan on doing a full reread when that FX series hits.
So glad I found this video. I've been hemmin' and hawin' over whether to get the omni. After watching this, I know what to do. Love your reviews. You always keep it real. Keep up the good work!
I know this has nothing to do with the video but something I wish dc or even marvel would do is like remake the first appearences of heroes, like keep the writing and panels mostly the same just the art style would change so u can have tim sale do detective comics #27 or Jim Lee do action comics 1 Todd McFarlane could do amazing fantasy 15.... They could even go weird combination like Tim sale doing showcase 4... I just think is would be cool
I've not read it in quite a while but from what I can remember the story is good overall but I agree that the ending is weak and Yorick's character development is too limited. By the time we get to the big twist at the end there's no time left in the story for him to grow beyond that. I can't say I am that excited for the TV series because this is the kind of story that will just be too easily corrupted by modern politics and the fact they've made such a big deal about having so many women work on it BTS is not a good sign.
Hi, I have the omni and I loved the story. I am going to buy the absolutes, but I have read that many copies have binding issues with pages falling apart. How are your copies? Do you suggest keeping the omnibus or getting the absolutes? Thanks and regards from Argentina
I remember reading this when Walking Dead first came out, and just thinking of the similarities. Both post apocalyptic. Obviously less gore and running for your life. Then again, it isn't a walk in the park for our guy Yorick (awesome name, he's named after the fool in Shakespeare's Hamlet I believe). It's well written. It's not the fun paradise you'd almost think it. Reality's harsh.
This looks like an interesting read. It’s funny because I recorded the first 3 episodes but I don’t know if I want to watch it or try giving it a read first. Great video Gem 💎
I been waiting for this one i like the absolutes but I'm collecting in the deluxe cause preacher sandman transmetropolitan and swamp thing are all the absolutes i can afford lol it's been hard enough getting all those but i been wanting to read this one when i get em all I'm really interested in a Locke and key one see what you have to say about the master editions i been thinking about pulling the trigger on those and are you gonna get the absolute swamp things
I had not read this series, seemed to be a lot of hype at the time with speculators stating it was supposed to be slated for TV so I stayed away from it. The hard volumes seem really put together with quality binding. If I find them discounted I might give it a try.
Seems like volume 2 of the deluxe editions is out of print and sold out everywhere...damn. But the Absolutes are a bit pricey. Maybe I'll wait for the omnibus. 🤔
Morning Gembo, I have a recommendation for ya..... you should listen to the Tony Danza Tap Dance Extravaganza! A very bad ass band even though they’re broken up now, you check their music on TH-cam! Have a good day, sir!
Y the last man that's a series I really enjoyed. There was moments where yeah I would do agree with you with the lead character he would just do the dumbest most unnecessary things possible. But for me personally I thought that was part of his charm the stupidity and even though I did like the ending but I do agree with you there it felt very rushed how they ended the series even though I enjoyed it I thought it was a little thought provoking. I get what Brian was trying to do in the series when he was coming up for the ending but I do feel what you're saying about it was rushed. The best part of the series was after the men died what did you know all women kind do after most of the men were gone and it just didn't affect just the males of human race has affected all the mails from every species like animals and stuff that was very interesting weather going to do without all the mails for like pigs and cats and lions and stuff like that see in species die out. That I really enjoyed how you know he would handle some of these groups of women that you know after the men would die just you know somebody go extreme someone still do their normal day today some didn't know what to do with themselves without the been there so he really took his time explaining the world that he was setting up I think he had a lot more time building the world that he was trying to represent in the series then he was spending with the main character and making them seem more realistic I mean I enjoyed the main character but I do see the point where you're trying to make their and I do agree he was doing stupidest freaking things. And then he cheats on the girl he's trying to find I mean if you were this loyal you should have slept with this girl that was in a church bro they got her knocked up bro if he were that freaking loyal. Come on now I was like really you going to talk all that mess wire to that moment then get bang this chick if you were trying to be that loyal to it a woman that you weren't really like married or something like that. And I thought the Amazons in the series that cut their was it their left boob or the right boob I don't remember they got their boob off and they're pretty badass and his sister was one of them and she was trying to get Redemption for what she did I thought that was a really good story arc right there for that character for the main character sister. ( except for the monkey that was with him that monkey could have had a lot of time to get some tail.)
Btw that sister Yorick had was a bad character and the Beth girlfriend seemed so weird . And they kissed each other ? I mean is this some kind of shock stuff to make things interesting ? Damn lol. It was so forced and fake . Imho.
One of the best things I have read with plenty of laugh out loud moments, and loads of great little references throughout like Neil Young, The Cure etc. I absolutely loved it. The ending, yeah didn't quite understand it but it made me feel upset all day so I guess that's a good thing as it had an emotional effect on me. The only criticism was that some of the sub plots didn't interest me and occasionally the story went off on a tangent that I found slightly tiresome. That said, this is one I'll reread as I'm sure that there is stuff I missed first time around. Definitely worth buying for sure.
Dude, I like your channel but this was a pretty underwhelming review. Only book I've almost cried too like twice n I'm not a sensitive cat. Great series. Always my recommendation to people who don't read. I've been reading for over 30 years
@@GemMintCollectibles It's all good. Its gotta be hard to do what you do. All opinion either way. I just got the planetary omnibus and the Aquaman omnibus on your recommendation yesterday so I can't wait to checkem out. I'll let u know what I think when I'm done. Thanks bro
Imho.. it seemed like a misandry comic.. probably it is so forced that you get that the author is criticizing the male society but in my language that would be something like " spitting in your own dish where you are eating the meal " ( sputare nel piatto dal quale si mangia )
Now you're just pissing me off. It's not "Yo" Rick. It's Yorick, as in "you're ick". You've been hanging out with Manimal too much, the stupid is rubbing off on you.
You couldn't relate with a late 20 something that has no real world skills and believes that the world revolves around him? Ironically, the world depends fully on his wellbeing (later in the book).
“You should be swingin’” 😂 real talk
Seinfeld reference

Between Y, Saga, and Ex Machina Brian K Vaughan is my favorit writer ever. Loved hearing your thoughts and opinions on this.
That final issue... damn... the last scene with "&" when I realised what actually happened... I was crying like a baby for 10 minutes.
I’m looking to get my first Omni and I’m thinking about the green lantern Johns run would recommend it for a first omnibus
King Elessar great pick
My first Omnibus was The Big Damn Sin City
My favorite comic series. It’s what really got me into comics
Ive never heard of this title but it seems like a very interesting story! Ima have to check it out! Outstanding review!
This got me back to comics 6 years ago. I liked it back then. Maybe should read it again
Recent read or not so are top shit for me as only been reading just over a year. Great video again 💎💪

They can even have like 4-5 different artist renditions for each hero and release them in an absolute, or omnibus or something
I've not read it in quite a while but from what I can remember the story is good overall but I agree that the ending is weak and Yorick's character development is too limited. I fucking love Y: The Last Man. Tempted to get the absolutes in place of my OHC's.

I need to get into some comic book stuff again. Great video as always🤟
Good review. Thx G-Man. Have a great weekend. Oh, I mailed you an AA form. :)
This looks like an interesting read. It’s funny because I recorded the first 3 episodes but I don’t know if I want to watch it or try giving it a read first. Great video Gem 💎
This sounds like a book Gillette could get behind
I have the full series in trade back but I really wish I had these absolutes
Me too.
" you should be swinging" i fucking lost it, i am laughing so hard 😂😂😂
lol
I've read the first half of the vol 1. Absolute and plan on picking them all up one day. It's definitely a great read!
Jesus Christ!! Second review video in a row I've watched that called the capuchin monkey a chimp. Not. A. Chimp.
Is the omnibus of good quality when it Comes to binding ?
I had not read this series, seemed to be a lot of hype at the time with speculators stating it was supposed to be slated for TV so I stayed away from it. The hard volumes seem really put together with quality binding. If I find them discounted I might give it a try.
Just read this, was really good

yea i would...im actually selling these and will buy the omni when it comes out

Don't know if is Bonelli popular in America. I love Mister No. Very long series and story's also i like
Morning Gembo, I have a recommendation for ya..... you should listen to the Tony Danza Tap Dance Extravaganza! A very bad ass band even though they’re broken up now, you check their music on TH-cam! Have a good day, sir!
I'm thinking about getting Spiderman tangled web do you think it's worth it
i actually dont...i gave up reading it half way

Ms. Magazine called it a "feminist masterpiece"
Nuff said
lol

The thing is that i do not get the pop culture things .. i mean not all of them... english is not my language.. sometimes it seemed like filler. Imho.
Great not so recent reads! It looks like it’s ok but it’s not really my cup of tea
Don't know why but for me Vertigo have a best story's from all comics...
Come on Uncle Leo, you're an adonis!
lmao this guys gets it
#Almost20K
I enjoy the series but I thought it was a bit too long. Yorick constantly searching for Ampersand dragged the series too much for me.
It was imho too much of a misandry plot/story... with less hatred the story could have been way better. Ampersand was ok imho.
Dude, I like your channel but this was a pretty underwhelming review. Only book I've almost cried too like twice n I'm not a sensitive cat. Great series. Always my recommendation to people who don't read. I've been reading for over 30 years
Tralaine Tucker I didn’t like the way this video came out. I’ve been sitting on it for over a month.

Thanks for keeping it real with me. This review would have probably been different if it was a recent Reads and not a not so recent reads

Good vid. I agree: Yorick just seemed unrealistic and annoying. Brian K Vaughan peaked with Runaways...
Now you're just pissing me off. It's not "Yo" Rick. It's Yorick, as in "you're ick". You've been hanging out with Manimal too much, the stupid is rubbing off on you.
i said it right later on
Wait, so Yorrick was your only complaint with the book?
that i can remember...its a not so recent reads. the ending was jarring too.
You couldn't relate with a late 20 something that has no real world skills and believes that the world revolves around him? Ironically, the world depends fully on his wellbeing (later in the book).
The ending has a George Lucas "It's like poetry it rhymes" quality to bring the whole narrative together.
this book sounds like a gay op
lol
