    Great work, Spencer. Clear caulk is definitely the way to go on internal corners. I'm not a painter but I final coat spray my built-ins and cabinetry on site usually. I'll be using your trick of dampening the frog tape on flat walls before painting in future. You're the only person I've seen do this. Great tip. Cheers!

    The last section… I would paint the dark colour on the tape first so it seals the tape with the dark colour. Then go with the white.. caulk is fine but I can never predict cracking or crazing so I try to use caulk as little as possible. 👍🏻

    It may not be rocket science but these are great tips! I always have an issue but this makes so much sense. Thanks Spencer!

    Thanks for the tips. I don’t have caulk, but I will try wetting the tape first and bringing in the darker color slightly to the other wall before I paint the lighter color. First time painting an accent wall 🫢

    Once again fantastic! Never thought of it. Always cut in with a brush (used to) 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

    The foam roller technique is flawless and it will last for years to come

    It's a good idea to still use caulk over the top, because, tape alone doesn't do as well over texture or where drywall has humps and valleys. Caulk will "level" somewhat the inconsistencies in texture. Minimizing the paint seepage in the "valleys".

    I've used this technique for some time now save carrying the 1/2" or so onto the the adjacent wall. That was a helpful tip. Thanks!
    I've done a good deal of light commercial work and my experience has been that the corners can be quite irregular due to the drywall/plaster finisher applying uneven amounts of mud resulting in a wavy appearance from top to bottom, one side compared to the other. Additionally, the center of the corner may have irregularities. A review and scraping often time is in order prior to paint.
    Wiping off of excess caulk as in this situation is in order after one is satisfied with the final result for, any excess clear caulk may be picked up by the paint and leave a sheen to the finished surface.
    However, I've often come across corners that are so unprofessional that I have had to rely on more caulk filler to get things in order before the final touch such as you've so aptly demonstrated. In such cases I've had to negotiate my paint line side-to-side to give the illusion of a straight differentiation when standing back a bit. In these cases the Frogtape delicate surface tape comes out and can be used after about an hour or so. -Time consuming but that's what it takes with me behind the brush.

    So is clear caulk the same as white caulk?

  • @kritsonthebeat
    @kritsonthebeat 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Would normal white caulk work the same? I cant seem to find any clear caulk to purchase 😞

    • @spencercolgan
      @spencercolgan  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No. The white caulk will only work if one of the colors of paint is white. If you have white caulk, you’re going to have your two paint colors plus the edge of the white caulk. You Need clear caulk.

      @spencercolgan I see. Thanks so much for the reply! Is there another alternative I could use instead in this case? I read somewhere using a damp cloth may help give the same effect but not sure how well that will work

    • @spencercolgan
      @spencercolgan  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@kritsonthebeatthen use frog tape with blocking technology. Or swells up when you apply water in a cloth.

      @@spencercolganso white would work if adjacent areas are white? My ceilings and baseboards are white and I can't find clear caulk 🙃
