- This video will cover how to get started in rust as a step by step guide including picking the right servers, first steps, mining ores, locations, hunting, building, Upgrades, recycling, purchases and missions. It can be frustrating and daunting to start playing. However, if you can reach the stage of building a secure starting base, you have a good fighting chance to last for at least a few days.

Been getting killed for the past week now 😂😂 But i finally was able to survive for thirty minutes! New Personal Record For Me 🎉
How you doing now?
I just keep dying and getting raided
Get into low pop to get better at game mechanics
nice
@@peterlambert9480 yes same
biggest thing for me is to avoid other players at all costs
when i’m doing something and i see someone just starting i’ll ignore them cuz they have no loot but most other players will go berserk mode and hunt u down just to loot a rock and torch
Gotta let them know it's my territory!
Just started yesterday and as I was nakedly chopping wood some chad player came over and dropped me some materials and proceeded to run over and slaughter a nearby settlement.
You won't get better at combat that way
Hell... I only had one person kill me... I don't think I even had a rock yet... but it keeps spawning me directly in front of boars and bears. I have yet to survive 2 minutes.
you wont get much better at pvp that way, and pvp is a huge part of the game
Great job clearly explaining the start in Rust. Got tons of hours in Rust and you were disclosing the secrets to a solid start. You should mention that no matter what - you will die in game and do not let that discourage you, just be prepared by carrying minimum necessary to do what you need to do - bank in base or hide-bags continuously!
100%, earlier today my friend and I found a satchel and instantly deposited it, then we died roughly 2 minutes later along the route we were searching when we found the satchel.
Because we deposited we can work on building up raiding tools instead of losing progress.
Also, don't hoard too much, if you have let's say 5 Aks don't be afraid to loose them, you have 5 of them. Use them to your advantage
If youre new and reading this, i highly reccomend doing what i call bag-running.
Its simply ONLY focusing on getting cloth when u spawn, then place bags towards the spot you wanna build. Only when you get a bag in the area u wanna build should you start gathering resources for a base.
I got so many teammates ``making plays`` right out the gate, only to die on the way to where we wanna live.
Also a little protip: You dont need a TC when u start building, needing to gather 1000 wood less just to get something up and running quick can often be a lifesaves, the TC can come in the next few minutes
whats a TC?
@@sidhantjasrotia220 Tool Cupboard
Great tip wish I knew before playing. Eventually you get mad, just settle somewhere and its a shit place to live then have to try move ect.. this bag running method helps so much.
no tc needed? I literally did that and some dude put a triangle and he put a tc
I tend to watch more Weyln play Rust than me play Rust, but two things he does have really improved my opening game.
1. He puts up the very first part of a base - all open, then puts a tc and lock down and puts his resources straight into it. This is huge for me as it almost never gets opened and lets you farm much safer for the rest of the base by continually putting it into the exposed tc. Previously i was farming enough wood/stone to fully enclose the base with an airlock included, which was incredibly risky (and in hindsight pretty dumb)
2. I'm making far more use of recyclers in places like the port or junk yard. I've usually kept away from them as I figure there'll always be players at them - and while that can be true, a lot of the time it's been quite safe. The result has been coming out with tons of scrap, metal frags, wood and cloth.
I;'m far from even being a good player still, but these two things have made a big difference to me
Step number 1: Not spending 5 hours just to load into the game
Edit: For those of you who have been telling me to and an SSD for over a year now I did well, I ordered one and I dont know if the amazon delivery dude got kidnapped, murdered, or just disappeared but it never came 😐
(It was supposed to arrive in July 28 of 2022)
is tru tho
Fr
Lol
Honestly I might just refund the game. When I purchase a game over $10 I set a time for 1 hour, if I like the game, ill set a time for half an hour. Do I really like it? Or did I just get lucky? And this game has taken almost the whole first hour of loading
@@teaser452 Rust isnt a bad game at all
If you know how to play and if you have friends to play Rust with it can be very fun
What I used to do is I would get up in the morning (when I felt like playing rust) and I would load up rust and let it load and then I would have the whole day to play it
There might be videos that could help you fix the long wait to load in aswell
The best method is just getting a part for your PC I dont remember what they were called it was like SSD cards or something like that
I have 400hrs but im still watching. His videos are just so good and relaxing
Thank you for the support Tristan :)
9,720 hours and still finding this amusing thanks a lot Jfarr
I have 400-500 and im still beginning
Im sorry but 400 hrs is not alot
@@mutedpeeps5189 who asked?
So we’ll explained. No extra fluff & such. Soothing & not complicated to understand. Rust should post this video on their home page of the game as a tutorial.
Haha, that would be awesome and thank you for the compliments :)
As a complete rust noob, this is possibly the best rust beginner vid on TH-cam! Fantastic help! Thanks!
Thank you and excellent to hear it helped out :)
@@JfarrYT hopefully you daddy don't reply hehe
1. Bag run all the way to the furthest point away from the start and dangerous monuments
2. DON'T LOOT ANYTHING
3. Find a spot with tons of Trees and Stone Nodes, preferably without any neighbours.
4. Farm 3000 Stones (4 nodes) / 1000 Woods (2 Trees) with basic tools (Stone pikaxe first)
5. Store resources in small Satchel bag (Fill bag like this: 1K Stone, 1K Stone, 1K Stone, 1K Wood, Stone Pickax, Stone Hatchet)
6. Build a starter 1x1 base well hidden between cliffs/trees (Chad cube by Reksmore). Just 1x1 shell with wood door + lock no TC. farm for TC after that.
7. Farm Farm Farm until you have enough to build the main base of your choice (find a youtube video)
8. Produce scrap in preferred way. Once main base established, put few 1x1 Chad Cube bases with Vending Machines around preferred scrap sources.
9. Setup a Vending machine at main base. Sell 1 Wood for 500 Scrap and send scrap to your main base this way every 500 scrap.
10. Have fun! :)
Extra: You can build a quick 1x1 Right next to Ranch. Farm Poop, sell Fertilizer at Bandit Camp.
sell 1 wood for 50 scrap hahaha
@@simonyousif9123 shit I meant 500 lol
who is gonna buy 1 wood for 500 scrap@@Satsujiki

I have had rust for ever and play it every once in a while with me and my friends who were all on the same level in skill. I watched this video and hoped on later I now know a lot and what to do to survive I am not running around as a naked anymore. I am not in danger I am the danger. 10 out of 10 guide to start in rust must watch. Thanks very much.
This is a really good video i am introducing a friend to rust and this is perfect for them! Also a really good length video for all of the basic needed knowledge for rust.
Very well explained and clear for the game as a whole!
This is one of the best game tutorials I've seen on any game, not just this one. I've been playing 7DTD since Alpha 4, and have had Rust for a while, but never played it. I was about to check it out and looked for a beginner's guide vid. Very glad I landed on this one. Good job and thanks much for the tips.
I have 4k hours and didn't learn but showed this vid to my friend who just got the game because it had some really good beginner info, well done jfarr!
Thank you Bryce and hopefully it helped your friend out :)
Played rust on and off for 2 years never got into it.... but after i watched your vid, i reinstalled it and now i'm hooked solo life is rutless but man is it fun. This vid helped me a lot very good work

This is not an ultimate guide. I need the basics.
Your beginner phase ends when you turn off music,It changes how you perceive the game
Haha the true defining moment.
So trueeee
I turned it off ass soon as I installed the game, because why would I want music playing in the background of a survival game where hearing the slightest twig crack is the difference between losing hours of farm or gaining hours of farm? I'm new to rust, not life...

I appreciate this video man I started rust today and this video made the game more understandable thanks man keep up the good work
Glad to hear the video helped you out and I will try my best :)
I've logged 250 hours in this game but havent played since 2018. This was a great refresher.
I got around 600 and still learned a few things:) very relaxing video and helpful
Subscribed. Basically in 19 mins you have covered the multiple hours I spent on google trying to work out how to play the initial stages of this game. Legend.
Thank you man I got this game for Christmas and was lost, this was the first video I saw and it is so helpful. Keep up the good work bro!
This video was extremely useful for a beginner like me. Thank you.
Happy to help Pinnacle :)
I’ve played the game for about 15 hours and I’ve still loved this video and it’s so helpful I recommend watching till the end
Cheers and glad to hear it could help you out, especially as a new player.
I’ve played this game since 2017 and i’m watching this. Great content, great advice, if your new i suggest you watch the whole thing :)
Cheers and thanks for the recommendation :)
I only have 75 hours so there's a lot to learn and this helped a lot, thank you 😊
Awesome, I'm glad to hear the video is helping :)
I got around 600 and still learned a few things:) very relaxing video and helpful
I have under ten minutes.... and I can do... NOTHING.
I managed to live for about 70 seconds, once.
Genuinely absolutely brilliantly made video, straight to the point and mentioning pretty much everything a new person needs to hear to get a proper first start. Nice work man! I noticed two things that I feel like people should know:
2:25 - When talking about collecting food to get your health up: If you put the food in your hotbar, you can click the number of the slot it is in (1-6) on your keyboard to automatically eat it.
6:56 - What are some monuments that we *should* build near? Like supermarket? Help me out here :)
Have a nice time playing Rust y'all, and please don't become a stereotypical Rust player lol
Haha, love the last part. Thank you for the kind words and for monument recommendations it really depends on your playstyle. In general, I would say near outpost, supermarket, and the mid tier monuments like sewer branch and water treatment are great locations.
TYSM I just got the game and had no idea what I was doing love this video
I'm not a beginner now but I still love your videos. You are the most underrated RUST youtuber. Period !!!
Thank you for the kind words Sanket and I'm happy you think that :)
Excellent tutorial. Thanks, man!!
Cheers Projeto, happy to help :)
Cheers for helping it was the best video I’ve watched for a rust tutorial
I have about 500 hours in which I started and stopped playing in 2017-2018. Only now just getting back into the game.
I have been on and off joining with mates over the last month just getting a feel to it again. Looking to start a solo wipe shortly and this video is going to help alot.
Last time I played bps were non existent, there was about 3 monuments. No horses, no vehicles. So the game has changed alot. Thanks for the video.
Wow, it definitely has been a while. Hopefully you're having fun with all the new stuff and glad the video could help out :)
1500 here, 1300-1400 spent on the game right before electricity was announced,,, that alone is such a learning curve.
Thanks for this video that helped me alot❤❤❤
Thanks for the guide, helped me understand the game much better!
Man I really wish I would've watched this a couple days ago. Just got into rust and figured, okay lets hop in. Joined an older overloaded server kept getting slayed. Finally after about 7 hours I rolled into the 3rd with all the hardcore, don't go into areas. Build a base, armor, etc. All this while playing on Sunday, thinking it was Monday. Nope, server wipe on Monday. AHHHHHH so like all the things you said don't do in the beginning, I did, and felt the frustration lol. Excellent video !
Thank you this will be so much help!
Great guide, I have referred so many friends to your videos because they are neatly put together amd easy to understand.

12:08 To anybody who is new absolutely do NOT make keys for key locks because if you get killed with one, they can open all of your doors
They are super useful though
@@CatKrusader no they are not, they will eventually get you raided. Always make a code lock if playing with friends and if that isn’t an option you need to deal with the pain. Would you rather open a door for your friends or lose all your progress for the sake of time?
Yeah I made that mistake my first time playing. Actually took me a while to realize that I didn't even need the key.
You don't need a key if you are a solo.

Best guide 👍
After getting the bow, minimum medicine, and cloth with instruments, I would recommend to go on low stage RT or farm a road on the way to the recycler. After you've done that you might have to go to the safe zone with a 1st workbench and craft some more advanced weapons like a crossbow or a nailgun. After that, if you have some scrap left you might craft a 1st workbench for yourself and start researching or buying loot that will help you. After you've complete that, farm some wood, metal, and stone for your base.
got few hours on rust but this video is helpful
thx man
good guide love it
Cheers Tim :)
incredibly well made Jfarr
Cheers mate :)
Best base start? 2x1 with a triangle foundation on the right side.
Start by building a 1x1 with a double door, put a TC as close as possible to the right corner facing the wall. You can then put 2 small chests to the left of the TC and 2 sleeping bags in front. Your loot is now secured.
Next, build another square foundation, and facing away from your current 1x1, place a single door on the far right hand side.
After that, place a triangle foundation outside of that door, and place another door on the right side. You now have a 2 door airlock where any enemies are unable to see inside your base, even with two doors open. Your furnaces go into the opposite corner from your airlock, and you can then upgrade it from there on with things such as half wall shelves in the TC room, a garage door instead of a double door, a workbench on the right as you come in through the airlock etc.
Ty
thank you really helpful information, solid solid work. i have a question though how did u pick up the sleeping bag and rotate items before placing them ?
Thank you Alfred. You can pick up items by wielding a hammer and holding e on the object to pick it up. You can also rotate items by pressing R when you are holding it out.
