    Thanks Phil. You showed the one thing we lack in Vic and that is the movable back seats, so you can face forward if you want.

    • @aussiejohn5835
      @aussiejohn5835 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The Dsets which will replace these have fixed seating with half facing forward and half facing the rear which I think is a big mistake especially for journeys of up to 4 hours.

    Being in Tasmania its always nice to see what's going on up there in Sydney with the trains. Thanks Phil for the tour its much appreciated.

      I can never understand why Tasmania withdrew passenger rail services throughout the state and I can remember catching a train from Devonport to Hobart which connected with the ferry from Melbourne back in 1974.

    Trains were great to ride on. Comfy as, relatively quiet. No good though if you had mobility issues/wheel chair, a baby's pram or anything else needing some extra space or width.

    Has there been any new fleet on their way to Australia (D1/D101, D21/D121, D28/D128 and D31/D131 all the way to D61/D161)? And any updates on progress like testing and finalising? It's been a while since someone updated. I can't really trust the Transport for NSW website because it didn't really update since October 2021.

    • @bobbinghead

      The new NIF fleet has been seen around Sydney being shunted. There was a deal between the union and TfNSW in February (I think) so hopefully they will be in operation soon

  • @Djr67

    Why are they replacing these? just because they are getting old? as they still seem like great trains, very quiet and comfortable

    • @aussiejohn5835
      @aussiejohn5835 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They are the most comfortable in all the fleet and they look and sound amazing, however, they don't comply with the standards required for the disabled and must be replaced. The train is not easily accessible for wheelchair and mobility scooters and the toilets are not suitable for wheelchair access.

    Thanks for the walk through. The purple interior of these sets is so iconic! I seem to remmber an olive colour scheme too....or am I dreaming? It is a few years since I caught an Intercity train in NSW.

    • @syphon_9892
      @syphon_9892 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know i remember when they had a terrible checkered color scheme on the seats of the train i used to travel on between Strathfield and Newcastle

    • @smophie6260
      @smophie6260 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They redid the livery on the inside a couple of times, olive was the original I believe. They changed it to purple sometime in the aughts or early tens

    Can you explain exactly what a Chopper set is and how it is different from a Cam car?

    • @jamesfrench7299
      @jamesfrench7299 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Chopper goes ooohhwaaah then silence and the cam sets are the real iconic sound that goes grrrrrrrrmmmmmmmaaaaaaahhheeeeeeeeeee and the pitch continues to increase until it’s at speed and you hear a quiet humm.

    Are the V carriages same length as suburban stocks? eg 8 cars V sets same length as 8 cars B sets? What about OSCAR are they also intercity fleet, but seems to appear in suburban runs as well?

    • @jdouble-l19978
      @jdouble-l19978 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No 8 car v sets are longer than the other 8 car sets. So long that 8 car v sets get the SP6 (short platform, rear 6 cars) for platforms that could fit an 8 car oscar.

    • @notsureyou
      @notsureyou 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They would be the equivalent of 9 cars (of the suburban k sets)

    Nice Video, but not longer to go, had been on ride on that years ago its pretty nice and now sad they will go this year.

    • @smophie6260
      @smophie6260 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very true, the retirement of these is creeping up soon, to think my daily driver for a couple of years could be a heritage ride in 20 years or so is such a crazy thought. Some of the ones running on the Gosford line are increasingly becoming neglected, some I’ve seen a whole carriages seats ripped out a couple weeks ago. Sad to see them on their last years in such a way.

  • @DoofusStudios

    • @aussiejohn5835
      @aussiejohn5835 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The XPT's are being replaced with a bimodal train but they will not have sleeping carriages.

    • @smophie6260
      @smophie6260 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Really is, many of my treasured memories and god even my fathers memories were ones on this fleet. To think it’ll be either rotting in a train yard or being used for heritage rides is such a weird feeling. Great for shorter trips. As for the xpt, can’t say the same, I recently took one in first class and it’s not retrofitted for the time at all, the countrylink/cityrail era blue and white signs were a treat though to look at
