Good info. I’m not sure you adequately answered a question I have. Shooting with the r5 and doing a sunrise where my dynamic range changes quite a bit. What do you advise that I do in these sort of scenarios? My goal of course is seamless playback.
So the short answer to that question is that I don't have a good answer. Sorry, I know that's not super helpful. Truth is, I don't think I've ever shot a sunrise with the in camera time lapse movie function. Every sunrise I've shot has always been as a still sequence with an intervalometer then assembled into a movie in post. About the only recommendation I would be comfortable making, is if you're starting in predawn twilight and going to post sunrise day, you'll probably want to set the Auto Exposre setting to each frame. Though I would also strongly recommend experimenting in general just to see what settings work best for you.
I have the R5. And have been experimenting with time lapse in movie mode. I would like to shoot a 12 hour time lapse with a 10 second interval. However my camera shuts down before completing. I am running and external battery so it’s not the related to power. I have a large enough CF express memory card so I do not believe these are causing my problem. I can only get about 6 hours of video before the camera powers down. It appears to write the video to a dat file Any help would be appreciated
Excellent! I'm really enjoying this series. Could you imagine a 15 year 3600 exposure timelapse?! Crazy! Also, do you reccomend manually setting the WB?
On one hand I want to say that you should use a fixed white balance, not auto. However, I almost never remember to do that, and I've never really had a problem with color temp changes in the time lapses that I shoot - though they also tend to be fairly short so the light doesn't change that much.
If by grabbing a single frame, you mean taking a still image while the time lapse movie is recording, then no. You can only do that with using the time lapse function in photo mode.

is it possible to grab single frames when shooting a Timelapse in the movie mode?
