I bought my GE Profile Refrigerator in 2007 and never had a problem until January 2014 when the icemaker quit making ice. I bought 4 aluminum ice trays and I have been using them until 10/02/14 when I came across this "quick fix'. In seconds, I put back the pin in the hole as it had popped out and now my icemaker is working again. I kept hesitating paying $200 for replacement/repair and am glad I did. Thanks a million.
how do you put the pin back in? I have reset mine several times but nothing. Our frig isn't that old but not under warranty anymore. I am caring for my 96 year old mother and don't have the funds to pay for repairman. PLEASE HELP ME
It's very easy. Use a wire hanger or any stiff thin metal rod and carefully lift the pin in the back and make it comes a little forward until it falls in the tiny hole. The pic can come out from front or back. Mine was the part of the pin in the back.
This may be an old fix video.. I just want to say thank you as the little spring was the issue and now I have ice again just in time for summer. Amen for people like you and the internet to get to people in need
Thank you so much for this video! I called GE and not only did the person I talked to say nothing about the lever in terms of suggestions for fixing my ice maker, but she said a service call would cost $115 plus parts and labor. This was such a quick and easy fix and I'm so grateful.
My icemaker stopped working and the (licensed) handyman that I am, I began to remove the ice maker to check it out. After removing the front screw I couldn't figure out what was still holding it in place. After seeing this video, I then checked the spring and it was not in place. What a time saver... thank you sir!
Wow thank you bro 3 and half months no ice, thinking we had to get a new refrigerator. My wife thinks I spent half the morning fixing it😂 She said "somebody's going to get there ick sucked when I get home from work "💪❣️ Thanks bro
Thank you so much! This is exactly the problem my ice maker was having. I was about to drop several hundred dollars on a brand new assembly. Fixed for only 10 minutes of work. I noticed Ice had accumulated between the spring coils also making it not fit properly so I removed the screw that held on the spring and paddle, ran both under hot water, dried them and replaced everything and now working perfectly! Thanks again
My ice maker was broken for 1 year! I saw your TH-cam video today. I just happened to have a couple of dental tools..guess what? I FIXED IT!!! I GOT ICE TOO! YOU DESERVE AN AWARD FROM ALL THE FOLKS YOU HELPED! THANK YOU!
OMG, you absolutely saved my life. Mine has been out for 2 years and I was dreading to make that service call. So I thought I would check this on youtube and you hit the nail on the head. I'm too excited that it was such a simple fix. Thank you so much!
After 10 years of buying bag ice i finally ran a water line to my fridge. After getting it all hooked up, I was disappointed but not surprised when the ice maker still didn't work since it had never made ice or poured a glass of water since we bought it a decade ago.... thought I was fu**ed....Watched this video and nearly jumped for joy when I popped the spring back in, did the reset, and heard water trickle into the ice maker. Thanks man!!
No need to be modest, this is not a crappy video at all. Super helpful and very well done. That was exactly the answer to the problem and I would have never thought of it. You turned hours of angst into a 2 minute job. Thanks very much for taking the time to make so many people's lives easier.
Thank you so much. I didn’t feel secure poking around with a sharp object so I used my blow dryer to melt the stuck ice. I had ordered ice cube trays to tide me over until I could get a repairman out. Thanks to you I won’t need the repairman.
Dude, I love you. If anybody is watching this I'd like to re-emphasize the tiny little hole that the spring has to fit into. If that little white paddle doesn't spring out it still won't work. I thought I had it fixed and wasn't thorough enough, but we watch this video and it was dead on. I love you so much internet stranger!
Thank you! My ice maker stopped working. I pulled out the bin and saw the lever. 3 icecubes were frozen on the lever; so the lever could not move and spring back and forth. I lifted the icecubes off the lever and the lever is now snappy like yours. Did a reset as you explained. I am waiting for the cubes !! Yay!
2/5/24.....Thank you digitalP ! Your 4 minute video helped me solve my ice maker problem too here in 2024. A small ice chip had dislodged the spring from its mount. As recommended, I used a "dental pick w/ hook end" to grab the vertical spring end, pull the spring towards the front of the freezer, and "re-seat" the spring end in the tiny hole as you indicated. The ice paddle switch now "springs forward" again, as shown in your video. Thanks again.
My spring was in place, but the factory reset,(paddle back 3 times) was my issue. We hadn't had a working ice maker in 2 years, and this fixed it! Thank you for posting!
You are a lifesaver. I was about to buy a new ice maker. I watched the official ge video. Couldn’t enter diagnostics mode. I found your video, sure enough the spring has come out of the top. I pushed it back with a mechanical pencil and started the diagnostic mode. Thanks.
You're the man! I thawed it out completely with a hair blow dryer, because I have had some water lines freeze up in some freezers that were too cold. But that wasn't the problem this time. It was the spring. I did the reset, we are good to go!
Oh my! I am so thankful for your tip. We have been buying unfiltered ice for a month or so. We thought we would need an appliance technician to fix this. What a waste of money this would have been. So again, I thank you for posting this simple video fix. First I tried the reset and it wasn't springing back so that is when I looked closer at the spring situation. Our little spring was so far off at let's say the 12 o'clock position and the tiny hole was at 3 o'clock . I just slide it forward until it seated in the tiny hole and heard the ice maker start up again! I jumped for joy!!!
My problem with my ice maker was it wasn't making ice. After watching your video, I found that the spring had came out of it's hole. I simply loosen the two screws holding it in place, detached the ice maker, turned it over and located the spring. I then reattached the end of the spring back in it's hole, reattached the ice maker and it now it is making ice again. Thank you for the video. A great help.
I purchased a replacement icemaker because mine was not making ice either. Then I came across this video. Wow, instant fix now it makes ice!! thankfully I was able to return the icemaker I bought on eBay. You are the best! Salamat PO.
Thank you very much - it worked. I was depending on that ice to get me through recovery from shoulder surgery! I was shocked this morning to find no ice. Thank you very much!
We live in Taiwan and few people use GE refrigerator. Our Ice maker stop make ice. I study your video and adjust it the position of the spring and then Ice maker start to work again. So.......amazing... You save our money and thanks very much again.
So happy you made this straight forward easy to understand video. I knew about the spring lever but not about the reset which was the fix I needed. My ice maker is deep inside the bottom drawer of my refrigerator/freezer impossible to see but after watching the video I found the on/off rocker switch by feel alone and reset. Thank you!
Dude, you saved me $150. I had my ice maker ripped apart trying to pull the thermistor out in a last ditch effort. Saw this video, looked at the spring and sure it enough it was popped out. As soon as I put it all back together it immediately started working. You're awesome!
Fixed our issue first thing! It was driving me crazy and I didn't want to blow $200 on a new ice maker assembly for a 12 year old fridge. Thanks for the tip!.
This is an outstanding tip. After multiple time failures, I find a way to prevent the spring tip pop out by using a small drill bit to drill the hole a bit deeper. Taking the whole assembly out is very easy by uncrew one screw and electric connection. You don't need to power off or turn off water. Work perfectly now. Thanks
You just rock!! I'm looking at ten years of 'thank you' notes - just wanted to add another. Factory reset worked like a charm. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
This vid is 6.5 years old and is better than any vid on the GE website. It helped me fix my ice maker in the first 1.5 mins of watching. Thank you, you are a scholar. 10 THUMBS Up!!!!!!!
Thank you! Just fixed my ice maker within 30 seconds of watching your video. I didn't even have to watch the entire video. Thank you so much for posting this video.
Wow! You are a genius. We have been buying ice for 2 weeks and we finally decided to look it up on TH-cam and found you. Thanks so much, you have certainly paid it forward many times over.
Thank you for saving a strapped homeowner. I told my wife that we needed to take everything out of the fridge, defrost it, and if that didn't work call a repair man. I'm waiting with baited breath, but it appears the top tray had just turned off the switch! Your video was great!!!!!
Thank you so much for the video. I have been dealing with little to no ice cubes and constantly resetting the ice maker. With your video, the ice tray is now full.
Thank you so very much. Our slider is broken so no way to turn OFF or ON. So, no ice. With your explanation, I just pulled that lever forward and voila, it began operating properly again. I appreciate your posting.
This was very informative. Without viewing this first, I replaced the water valve and it still didn't work. Then I figured out that if I pulled the paddle out manually, it would proceed to go in and drop some ice. At first I thought it was electrical until I watched your video. Thank you very much. The spring was my problem....
Thank you for this video. Our apartment complex installed a new refrigerator when our old one quit. Just as you indicated, the spring was not in the right position....from day 1. As I am typing this I hear my first "clunk" of fresh ice.
THANK YOU! Was about to spend money on a new one but decided to search TH-cam, and this was the exact problem! A shame sites like repair clinic don't list this as a possible reason, as it seems like it'd be a common issue.
Inspite of the "crappy" video your narrative was excellent and it helped us understand the problem we were having with the ice maker. We don't have dental tools (or eyesight sufficient) to reseat the spring ourselves but we can call out the service man who dislocated the spring while working on a different issue. So thank you for sharing this information.
Thank you so much! Spring popped out of the hole. Use a dental pick to pull it back in place. Started making ice immediately. You saved me a $200 service call!
Thanks for this video! Idk how ice makers work but my ice maker stopped working and I knew it had something to do with that paddle. It was making ice but not dropping them into the tray. I knew when ever I needed with that paddle it would eventually drop ice but couldn't figure out why it wasn't working without me messing with it. Found this video and looked for that spring you mentioned about and it was popped out of place. Fixed it and now working!
THANKS! This seems to have been my problem, and this saved me a couple hundred bucks. I tried needle nose and Allen wrenches to relocate the spring, but that didn't work for me. Finally I just hooked my index finger from the back side and pulled down and pushed in. When it finds the hole, make sure it seats deeply by pushing up on the spring. GREAT FIX. Thanks again!
I too thought my ice maker was down and out. But i watched your video and found it was nothing but that spring. Thank you so much for doing this video, without it i would of had to call a repair man or bought another one like you and your wife thought you were gonna have to do. HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY!!!!!!!
Thank You So Much! My Spring was popped out just as you surmised. You saved me at least $80 on a service call. I Subscribed and will watch your "Ads" numerous times to help repay you in a small way. If the millon plus viewers did that it might enrich your life a bit.
This is great! I had paid someone to fix it once, and he tried to describe to me about the spring. I'm off to try and fix this again. And, I had forgotten about the reset procedure. I think you just saved me another $75!
Thanks man. This video is the gift that keeps on giving. Had looked at the GE vids, none worked out, was about to call them out when found this. 20 mins later and we are making ice!
Tha kyou so darn much for focusing on the little spring. This was the problem for years?!?!? Even the fridge guy who came out didn't catch it. I pushed on the paddle I pushed on the paddle in front t of him and asked if it was right!!!! Dang! Thanks man!!!!
Seriously??? You think it is that simple??? Psych...It is right on!!! Came back from a trip. no ice, been without for a month and a half, thinking new icemaker....What!!! This video is gold, fixed it right up!! My spring was out of the holes, did the reset, Ahhh, Ice at last! Thanks a bunch Dude!!!!
Thanks for the video! I checked my ice maker and that's what the problem was, there was ice frozen to the spring and as soon as i got it off the little tray started flipping back and forth. I love my ice maker and was worried that i was going to have to get it replaced. Thanks to you i don't have too. again, thanks for the informative video!!! Laura
I just want to say thank you for posting this! I just about gave up trying everything to fix it. Watched your video and now my ice maker is working fine! Again thank you so much!!
THANK YOU! My model is almost 2 years old and does not have the spring. However, the lever froze in the back position. A firm tug and it's back to normal! Thank you!!!
You so rock! My husband and I watched your video, did exactly what you suggested. Went out and did an errand and returned to the wonderful clunk of fresh ice being made. Yay, martini time.
spring was fine. did the reset and i just heard ice cubes hit the bottom of the tray. i also noticed that the hose that water comes through had the tube full of frozen ice. so i kinda chizzled that out, and then turned the freezer down from 7 to 6........thank you for your video....'we' did great,.
Thank you for adding the video, had the same problem looking at buying a new icemaker but the self check showed that it was working found the spring out of place thank you so very much.
This worked for me, thanks for the video! I thought I had to replace the ice maker! When I put the spring back in place, the fridge filled the tray and water overflowed and dripped down. Probably because it didn’t push out the ice that was in there. But the next morning, I have ice!
Yes, mine the same thing was exactly what you said wow i was thinking to buy ice maker and you just saved my life and my coffee time afternoon, i so miss my iced coffee you are life saver
Very nice! Ours sometimes has a bit of ice frozen next to the spring, which has to be knocked loose or else it keeps the paddle from moving. Then the paddle was stuck in the "full" or rear position and wouldn't move forward normally. We never realized (until watching your video) that the tip of the spring had popped out. Thanks so much for taking the time to post your video!
Thanks ! Spot on ! Saved me time ,$, and agravation. That was my problem. If I paid $150 for a new ice maked it would have solved my problem and I would not even known it was just that spring. Thank again !
I’m currently waiting for my fridge to reset, so we’ll see if it starts working again, but thank you in the meantime! Having an older drive I wasn’t sure if I’d find anything for my specific model but this was super helpful. Here’s to (hopefully) having ice again later today. Thanks!!
Very helpful and right on target. Exactly what the problem was, a 30 second fix. Factory reset "secret" is great. I had to do it a couple of times. The key is wait about 3 minutes. Saved me from having to buy a new ice maker! Thanks a bunch!
Thank you for this. I had frozen ice around the ice marker and I chipped it away and did the level thingy you showed us. I hope Later , tomorrow I have some full cubes of ice ! 🤞🏽
cause of this video i was able to fix my fridge 3 times already , almost every year. i almost gave up on the 3rd, but i did notice how i pushed in and it didnt fly out, thanx man
Oh my gosh! I did your reset procedure and just heard some ice pop out! My fingers are crossed that it can make more ice now… my paddle’s spring was great thankfully so I only had to do the reset.
Take a bow, you just saved me a $100. house call from a repairman who would probably then tell me I need 200 bucks in parts to fix it. You're the bomb - here's a huge virtual hug to you both! xoxo
Thanks so much! We've had power outages and our ice machine stopped working. With this video all I needed was to reset it. Did I mention our Monogram is 18 years old?!
Thank you for your video , the spring on the lever had pop out. I removed the ice maker and reinstalled the spring. Hoping to have ice soon. Again... Thank you !!!
Awesome video man. I was about to drop 100 bucks for a new ice maker kit and came across your video. Sure enough, same problem on mine. Popped the spring back in and I'm in business. Thank you!!!
Happy hour is saved!! The reset fixed it. Also, the spring had ice build up causing it to pop out of place. So I used a hair dryer to melt and dry. works perfectly!
Thanks, that did it! Had to re-set that end of the spring. That little hole was hard to see and was filled with ice. Glad to know how to do that reset also, with the turning off/on and moving flapper 3 times.
Thnks thnsks!!!I did the reset, turn off and 3 times the lever/handle.. and I could hear it making the noice doing the cycle as you said and in less than 5 min, Im already listening the noise of making ice...thnkssss again..I've been without ice for about 2 weeks ...Wohoooo :)...
2023 and your video is still saving people time and money. Nicely done!
I bought my GE Profile Refrigerator in 2007 and never had a problem until January 2014 when the icemaker quit making ice. Honestly I saved over $200.00 as was estimated to me to do a full replacement. Lucky I found this on TH-cam.
Thank you, my husband said honey I don't know anything about that. I'm like TH-cam ☺
This may be an old fix video.. I just want to say thank you as the little spring was the issue and now I have ice again just in time for summer. Amen for people like you and the internet to get to people in need

As soon as I shut it off and did the reset it started dropping ice ! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE VIDEO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It has made me crazy for months and could not find helpful steps from GE's web site. Finally it get solved after view this video. Thanks very much.
Thank you for saving a strapped homeowner. I told my wife that we needed to take everything out of the fridge, defrost it, and if that didn't work call a repair man. I'm waiting with baited breath, but it appears the top tray had just turned off the switch! Your video was great!!!!!

Great job. Don't worry about production quality. You gave quality information. That is more valuable to most of us DIYer's.
Amazing and suspicious that GE doesn't mention this quick and easy ice maker repair. Worked like a charm. Thanks so much!
for months now its not working, im just looking now on youtube to fix it myself. im going to go home and try this tonight. wish me luck!
Thank you!!! Worked perfectly. Took about 12 hours, just an FYI for those impatient souls like myself.
Laura
The "RESET" worked perfectly, made ice cubes within 40 minutes.
Thank you very much.
Jane MacFarlane 😂🤟🏻👍🏻
spring was fine. did the reset and i just heard ice cubes hit the bottom of the tray. i also noticed that the hose that water comes through had the tube full of frozen ice. so i kinda chizzled that out, and then turned the freezer down from 7 to 6........thank you for your video....'we' did great,.
Thank you!! Thank you!! Thank you!! In the time of COVID-19 and little money you saved me from an expensive repair call. You are blessed of God.
Genius! I have been looking for reasons my Ice Makers hasn't been working for about a week now. I came across your video and wala! Thank you so much.
Pushing the paddle 3 times to reset was what did it for me. Not listed anywhere else that I could find. Thanks for the help!
OK, thank you brother. I've been fighting with this thing for a few weeks now and have not been able to figure it out. This was EXACTLY the problem!
Thank you for adding the video, had the same problem looking at buying a new icemaker but the self check showed that it was working found the spring out of place thank you so very much.
My ice machine has been broken for three years now and finally decided just to look it up and realized I had the same problem you had.
Old video but still relevant. You fixed my ice maker. Thanks
Thank you, was make ice the old way, now that summer is here can't tell you what a help this is!
I’m currently waiting for my fridge to reset, so we’ll see if it starts working again, but thank you in the meantime! Having an older drive I wasn’t sure if I’d find anything for my specific model but this was super helpful. Here’s to (hopefully) having ice again later today. Thanks!!
Thanks for the video. My GE freezer had the same problem. I used a small handheld mirror to see the hole where the spring goes.
Dude, I’ve been troubleshooting this for days and the spring was the easiest fix, couldn’t find it anywhere. Thanks!
Bravo...Thank you for saving me from wasting my time and money. I just canceled my repair order. It works like a charm.
Very helpful and right on target. Exactly what the problem was, a 30 second fix. Factory reset "secret" is great. I had to do it a couple of times. The key is wait about 3 minutes. Saved me from having to buy a new ice maker! Thanks a bunch!
Glad it helped!
Thank you for this. I had frozen ice around the ice marker and I chipped it away and did the level thingy you showed us. I hope Later , tomorrow I have some full cubes of ice ! 🤞🏽
cause of this video i was able to fix my fridge 3 times already , almost every year. i almost gave up on the 3rd, but i did notice how i pushed in and it didnt fly out, thanx man
I have been buying ice for about 4 months. Had no idea it would be simple to fix. It was fixed before the door alarm went off!
Thanks for posting this years ago and it's still a great help, same thing happened to mine. Tough getting it back in but once you do....ICE...
I used a dental pick....I got it on Amazon...very inexpensive tool.
Oh my gosh! I did your reset procedure and just heard some ice pop out! My fingers are crossed that it can make more ice now… my paddle’s spring was great thankfully so I only had to do the reset.
Happy to hear!!
Nice!
Thanks for posting this! Bought a used fridge, and was bummed the ice maker didn't work. This was the issue!
Np!!!
Hey thanks a bunch for the help! The heat in Arizona can get pretty intense, having ice ready can save the day!
Add my accolades to the prior ones. This is why I love TH-cam. Thanks. I’m going to enjoy an icy beverage
Thanks for this. That is exactly what was wrong with our brand new fridge. Reached in and clipped the spring in.
Thank you so much for this. You saved me a service charge. Mine just needed a reset. Have passed this video along to my fellow GE Fridge friends.
Your video has gone a long way. Great tip on the reset. Thank you.
