  • Six pearls in six hours: The mountain hike from Schynige Platte to First (or vice versa) must be done once in a lifetime. The first two pearls stand out at the end of the Schynige Platte railway: The flora on the Matten is nearly as diverse as the flowers in the Alpine Garden. After the Loucherhorn, you will encounter pearl number three, the wild karstic landscape in the Güw area. Pearl four, the Sägistalsee, sparkles far below. The largest pearl, however, awaits on the Faulhorn. The view from up there offers everything: Lake Brienz on one side, the overwhelming backdrop of the Jungfrau massif on the other. And further down is pearl six, the Bachalpsee, the "blue jewel" of the Bernese Alps.

    We did this hike the other way round. So from first-faulhorn-Männdlenen-Schynige Platte(-wilderswill, because we missed the last train) it was absolutely amazing!!! I would recommend it to everyone. Don't forget to do a stop at Berghaus Männdlenen, the couple who runs the place are amazing people! So friendly and they have the best soup you could wish for after a long hike.

    The old hut was basic and all items had to be carried up, no cable car to get food up.

    The reverse way is better start at First. The train down gives you more time for the walk.

    Hi! We're planning to do this hike this summer. So the video was very helpful! I was just wondering, is there an alternative way to get to Schynige platte other than by train? Maybe a bus? And when you arrived at Grindelwald how dit you get back to the trainstation at Wilderswil? Thanks!!

      No there is not another option to go to schynige platte you can walk. It Will take arround 4 hours. From grindelwald to wilderswil you can take the direct train service in direction interlaken Ost.

      To steep mate, it goes from 650 meter to 1750 meter, in the pre-Lauterbrunnen gap. Only jeeps can drive up i think and even train has hard times at some points :D Trust me this train is your savior :D

    nice video ! If I bring my parents around 66 years old for this hike... do you think we should do which part of this hike (i.e. the most beautiful and easy to do)? many thanks!

      @padrigleamhnach 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If you take a lift up to First and then hike to Bachalpsee you'll get some beautiful views and it's not so difficult. Any further starts to get a little rough with steep climbs, altitude, and rocky trails.

      @@padrigleamhnach thank you... First to Bachalpsee hike is already in my plan as i heard it is not difficult .. I am thinking if the hike at Schynige Platte is difficult or not for my parents ? They are healthy but you know i am considering about their safety.... Many thanks

      @@pengqing8857 I don't think it's too difficult except for maybe hiking to the top. Didn't make it up there so not sure. The train ride is beautiful though and so are the views and there are easier trails as well.

      @@pengqing8857 Better make it a 2 day hike for your parents then. On day 1 you can walk to bachalpsee with them. It is an amazing place! Take another day to take the train to shynige platte to explore there! There is an alpineblumengarten and they play the Alpinehorns every day

    Amazing! Do u think it is safe for a women hike this alone? It seems, in the beginning that you were alone there. How difficult is the hike? I love the cows!

    • @jungfraurailways
      @jungfraurailways  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, it is a rather difficult and long hike. I would not recommend it if you are a beginner. However, you can visit both the Bachalpsee and the Schynige Platte by gondola/train and do an easy hike.
      Kind reagrds,
      Cheryl

      Hi
      Yes, Lake Bachalpsee is usually open in May :) Please check our website (www.jungfrau.ch/en-gb/grindelwaldfirst/lake-bachalpsee/) to make sure it's open for hiking.
      Kind regards,
      Cheryl

      I heard in winter the ducks get frozen in the lake, then they all try to fly away and they lift lake bachalpsee up and fly the lake away. So maybe it won’t be back in may

      Hi
      It always depends on the conditions if the trail is open or not, so I can't promise it. But the Schynige Platte-Bahn runs until October 23th, therefore chances are that you can do the hike.
      Kind regards,
      Cheryl
