The Bernina Line is all about altitudes and bridges and tunnels. It reaches the highest point on the entire trip, the Ospizio Bernina, at 2253 meters above sea. Amazingly, there is no cogwheel technology needed to reach it. This feat makes the Bernina Line the highest railway in Europe without a cogwheel. 55 tunnels and 196 bridges you’ll travel through and across. Building it begin of the 20th century was a feat. So yes, this railway is special. Enjoy the trip!
As a 18yo kid just out of high school (and preparing for colkege) I was blessed enough to accompany my parents to Switzerland the summer of '82. We rode this railroad into the alps to Saint Moritz. Hard to believe it's been 40 years ago.

Went on this in 2016. Really spectacular scenery, particularly loved the icy lakes surrounded by snow with sun shining on it. Amazing. Had no idea it was 'dangerous' though. Glad I didn't see this before my trip lol.
What a spectacular documentary...I was totally blown away by the scenic views and the jaw dropping high viaduct bridges!...Loved the camera panoramic angles...enjoyed the train ride from the comfort of my equatorial front! It just looks cold..br-r-r....;)

@jackiecordova7291 ... no, I'm actually South American, originally from Brazil, but I live in US for 25 years. People are extremely polarized here. They are completely divided and radicalized, and they have turned against themselves because of politicians. It's really sad. It was a completely different country when I got here . I have Spanish citizenship because of my father, and I'm planning to move to Lucerne next year in order to keep my sanity surrounded by conscious and peaceful people as Swiss are. The Bernina Express is realy a great route. Everybody can enjoy the journey. The scenery is also in the summertime spectacular. I can recomandet to everrybody to make this journey. Summer or Winter. Tirano, italy is only 2 hours with the train from Milan away. Where the journey starts or ends.
Interesting watching them repeatedly mention their concerns over climate while at the same time wanting so badly to attract tourists, who jet in, use an electric train to get into the mountains, while needing to haul in supplies, even down to water, and haul out their garbage for these thousands of people….OoooooK.
I've been on this line at least 20 times, at all times of the year. I've never seen a snow or rockslide and never been delayed due to one. I don't know why anyone would call this "The world's most dangerous railway tracks". It's anything but that. It is gorgeous though......
How is this dangerous? How many serious (passenger injury or death) accidents have there been in the 110 plus years it has been operating? Very interesting video, poor click-bait title.
Army engineers considered camels to conquer the Fraser river train lines in BC Canada but the rocks cut their foot pads. Our rocky mountain corkscrew tunnel is an engineering feat.
14:25 the people who say that it also happened in the past are right. Similar weather events happened in the past as well. The big difference is that those events are are more and more likely to happen as the climate changes. If for example something had a chance of happening around 1 in 100 years, then it now has a chance of happening around 1 in every 10 years. I don't know the exact numbers, and the numbers are different for every place and every type of weather, but it's about the idea. The weather events that used to be very rare are now fairly common, and the weather events that used to be extremely rare are now just rare events. With this increase in extreme weather comes a decrease in time for the environment to recover from said extreme weather event as well, which leaves it more vulnerable to damage in the next extreme weather event. What it comes down to is that the people who say that this weather also happened in the past are right. But that argument is irrelevant to the discussion of rapid climate change
@@FreeDocumentary Probably mostly just entitled americans that think everything should be in so called "american" and aren't used to reading subs. Dubbing makes for an objectively worse experience, you can't hear surroundings properly or at all, you can't hear the way the person that is actually talking is expressing themselves, and just ruins the audio in general. Especially in movies and tv-shows, maybe a bit less important in documentaries where it's not about the experience in the same way, but still. The only times dubbing makes sense or works is in stuff for children or animated family movies. That said i really appreciate you guys making this stuff available for everyone to watch, just wish it was subtitled instead of dubbed

The engineers don't wave from the trains anymore, not like they did back in 1954, still get a tear in my eye when I hear an old train in the night.
I have to go on this train it’s on my bucket list.
Really refreshing to have a female narrator, I find it really calming.
