The key to teaching phonics is consistency and repetition as boring as that may sound. Run those phonemes every day at the same time, 10 mins and practise words containing them.
Jace would be year 1 September, writing in full sentences.
Try bug club phonics and reading.
What your doing with him is what I do with my class of 3 year olds
So at one month after turning five Jace should be writing in sentences? Give over! And no 3 year old nursery student is doing maths, phonics blending words, reading!

you have no idea what your talking about, in my experience of working with children for 20+years every child learns differently so you have no idea where he should be hes doing pretty great in my books. I've never heard of new 5 year old's writing in full sentences.

When I was in year 1 a lot of people in my class couldn’t even write. Everyone learns at different paces, it’s only an issue if kids are significantly behind their age group which he is not.

Facts
Jolly phonics songs on TH-cam will help with your phonics teaching of the first phonemes. It is better to learn the sounds (phonemes) first and the letter names later on if you look between the phase 2 / phase 3 sound mats you can get if you have access to twinkl
The letter will always reinforce the phoneme awareness

Two letters one sound.
I’m telling people how I do it. What worked for us. Jace does recognise and can sound out two letter phonics. “Ch” and “sh” for example.

Why in heavens do you need so many swimmers?! 🤣 Surely just wash, dry and reuse?
Because in my opinion they’re like clothes. Often throughout summer swimsuits are all my children wear. Especially when we go on holiday. Like I wouldn’t just take 3 outfits on holiday and they wear swimsuits more than clothes the whole time. I also find the sand from beaches or lakes and chlorine etc from the pool often ruins them pretty easily so I like to have options. 😊

When my daughter started reception she couldn’t read and by the end of reception she could read and write short sentences! They all learn in their own time.
