My biggest beard mistake was listening to other people’s opinion, just because they didn’t like beards they would tell me to shave it off and I did😡......I’m now into my 10th week of growing my beard back and I’ve stopped listening to people’s reactions 😊😊😊😊
Donald Marshall same here!
Donald Marshall same, specially my sister would depress the fuck out of me saying it looked bad. And i am a little overweight and 5'7 so they kept saying i looked much larger with that. Who the fk cares lol, i look strong i look manly, i might look like a mighty dwarf when i go to countries that average height is 6'0 but hey, i am confident about it. I like my beard and fuck others opinions.
Beard looks good growing mine too
I get the same here 🤔
@@TheKarahan2011 well I'm 5'7" and live in an average 6'0" country dammit XD
My biggest mistake is trimming the neck line really high, I had a short beard so it was not really bad looking.
After you grew your beard you understand how many people do not know how to style the neck hair.
Attempting to trim it myself
9 month beard... Gone
oof
Metoo brother...
Jack is absolutely precious. He must be protected at all cost
Jack I’ve been around since about the 4 month mark, this series has gotten to the point where I can’t miss an update. Beards looking fantastic. When I grew out my first beard it was actually my first yeard. Looking back there was so much I did wrong. My biggest mistakes were;
1. Not going to a barber and getting healthy trims for it. While most guys think you shouldn’t get it cut at all this is WRONG.
2. Using too much oils. Like you said in the video, a little goes a long way. You don’t want to over oil your beard to the point where it won’t create its own natural oils, but you want just enough to not have it be dried out.
Keep up the good work Jack.
First of all, thanks for watching man! I really appreciate the support!
Sounds like you and I have made some similar mistakes, but hey, we've learned from them!
- Jack
Full head of hair and full beard. Bro is gifted in the genetic Dept
Al B - he’s like 14
Al B yeah but it looks like his hairline is receding
I can grow a beard....It's the hair that's the issue for me lol. Started goin bald in my early 20's, 33 now and I've been shaving my head ever since. If I would have known how clean a bald head felt I woulda shaved my head before I started going bald lol. Only time I ever shaved my head before that was in jr high when my sister got lice at school so I made my Mom buzz my head so I didn't get it haha. My head hair when I had it was soft and fine...My facial hair is thick and gruff like a caveman lol. It's def a different animal than the hair on your head.
@@larochejaquelein3680 As somebody that started getting the typical receding hairline kinda male pattern baldness in my early 20's my one piece of advice to any youngin going through the same thing is to just shave it and put it out of your mind. Women love a sense of humor and confidence more than anything else....besides maybe money haha ;) also doesn't hurt if you're packing a tripod in your pants either 🤣🤣
Patience is a virtue growing a beard has helped me understand. First time days felt like weeks. Enjoying the process is massive and being in the moment. Thanks for another great video Jack. Beard looks ace!
You’re a cool dude and nice channel, but as a Greek I almost shot my coffee out of my mouth when you said “Hey, I’m Jack MALAKA!”. 😅😅
:-D
Pushti malaka
I am on week 15 and day 4 of growing my beard. All you need is patience
Well, no. That's not ALL you need.
The intro music shouldn't be used in between the video clips.
Good suggestion, this may change in time as our graphical style evolves.
- Jack
Beardbrand Nice! Your beard is looking badass, by the way.
Agreed! As a video editor myself (what I do for a living) I always wonder why they don't just use a lower third with the in between titles instead of the intro block. Beard is looking great Jack. My hubby had to reset by a few inches because of a trimming mishap so hopefully he will catch back up soon!
Hi Jack/Beardbrand, what song is it? It's really nice!
Omg shut up
My biggest beard mistakes:
Waxing my mustache in hope it would grow back thicker when I was 13. I looked like I had spaghetti sauce on my lip for a week.
My second mistake was being too close to a fire. My beard, hair, eyelashes and eyebrows all got senged. I didn't notice until after a few hours.
- Washed the beard with hair schampoo/conditioner every day
- Combed the beard with a cheap, fine tooth comb. And by combed I mean pulled the beard. Usually a painful experience.
- Always trimmed the sides down, and never understood that I would be better off letting the hairs grow out for a more full beard look.
- Usually went for the "cheese wedge" trim, as Gray Bailey would say. Tried to shape the beard with heavy trimming.
- Trimmed down the mustache, and ended up looking semi amish all the time.
- Never used beard oil. I didn't know what it was until this year. Same with other beard products. And I've had a beard for 20 years now.
Things have changed this year thanks to channels like Beardbrand and Gray Bailey. It's like night and day, and I love it.
My biggest one was constantly trimming my beard, like I was cutting off those hairs that were sticking up every single day and over time my beard got really thinned out
Alem Hudović I too still do this, I’m a terrible neat freak and struggle to fight the urge to make everything as symmetrical as possible meaning my beard never gets past a certain point
Graham Peat I was the samo bur I just made a decision not long ago and man mu beard is starting to look like something. I still get the urge to cut of those hairs poking around but I somehow sucseed to control myself
I do the same thing. I call it hedge trimming 😂 Even when I use oil or balm and comb it to style there's little bits that stick out and drive my OCD mad, haha. For me I've noticed that it's actually new hairs growing in that haven't caught up in length yet, or they're the same hairs I trimmed earlier starting to grow back out, so trimming them off just leads to more sticking out and the cycle repeats. If I'd just let them go they'd have gotten enough length and weight to sit down into the bulk of my beard by now... It's so tempting to hedge trim but I'm purposefully stopping myself from doing it now and my beard is starting to get thicker and more tame already.
How. I can't even grow my hair on my head and you guys be growing beards dayum
I do the same thing, but maybe more conservatively? At least, it seems to be working well for me.
I used to drench my beard in oil and go overboard with buying products. Never again. Looking great Jack 👌
My worst beard mistake: Not growing one sooner. Because my whiskers are super thick and coarse I always ended up shaving it before it had time to grow because of the itch, irritation and general unrulyness. That is until I discovered beard oil. My facial hair is 10 times softer and smoother than it used to be so it actually lays and grows correctly now with minimal itch. I use a homemade beard oil that is avocado oil as the carrier and peppermint essential oil also a TINY little pinch of cayenne pepper powder in it. It smells great and my face seems to soak it up and make my whiskers shine like diamonds in the light. The cayenne and peppermint oil seems to increase the blood flow in my face while the avocado oil conditions and nourishes my skin. I am seeing new baby hairs popping up all over the place that weren't there previously. Doesn't clog my pores or break my face out either. If you make it yourself DO NOT GET IT IN YOUR EYES....It hurts...Trust me lol.
4:15 you have any pictures (or video) to share, how the beard looked with very trimmed down sides and low cheek line?
I think I have one or two, I may post them on my Instagram account at some point.
- Jack
Head and shoulders works wonders on my beard. I could not grow one without it. I only use it a couple of times a week, though.
My five 1.wrong shampoo 2. Over trimming 3. too much product 4. Not being patient 5. Playing with it too much. I made adjustments thanks to beardbrand and the great videos and helpful tips
Interesting list, man! Thanks for sharing
- Jack

what do you wash your beard with? i dont want to wash it with shampoo or mild soap?
Hello my name is Yusuf Alfred I have bad hair bumps and a patchy beard do you have any tips to get rid of them
This is my favorite channel on youtube, love the content!
Hey slipknot
Hahah the mental image of you holding your face over a pot of boiling water trying to get your moustache to grow is hilarious
Steveofthejungle8 I keep on picturing Jack dropping the boiling pot on himself and then having to explain to the doctor at the ER how he burned himself and why he had his face over the water.
Growing a beard was an ordeal at first between my family not liking it and me looking like a bum half the time i almost shaved it off after 3 months. I'm glad a stuck in there. I've gotten tons of compliments for my beard. Apparently it grows near perfect everywhere exept the sides of the soul patch. Those took forever to grow and are still growing in, but at least it doesnt look like a bald patch. I also made the mistake of washing it every day for the first 4 months so it became dry and prickly. All is good now though, nearing 7 months of growth and im happy with my beard. 😀😊😎
That's awesome!
I did the exact same thing . Faded the sides in waaaay too low . Now my hair near ears and cheek are catching up to the chin and jaw / bottom
Wow I did not know that shampoo could be that bad. I had a small beard earlier but now I am going for a full big ass beard. My beard is like urs but the mustache is like Greg berzinsky. Have a 1inch beard but the growth is kinda slow. I guess I will have to be patient.
Your scalp is almost 7 times thicker than the skin on your face so it can handle different cleansers. It really makes a difference to switch to a cleanser that is designed for the skin and hair on your face.
-Randa
I know it’s a bit premature but any idea if you’ll keep it long in length after you complete the yeard? Looks great! I grew a yeard after seeing Eric’s video almost 5 years ago and I’ve kept it pretty long for 4.5 years. Great series, thanks
Didn't touch my beard for over a decade and then finally got tired of the maintenance and upkeep routine and trimmed it .
I quit using hair shampoo once I read that if facial hair gets dry and brittle enough it'll break. I've only washed my mustache once so far with old spice shampoo, never again.
I finally got my beard with minoxidil and dermarolling at age 27. But when I was 21 I also did the pills thing, and one of those pills was Beef Gelatin, and then there was a serum, and some vitamins, and another thing and honestly I grew two new patches from that. Obviously was still nothing and nothing actually worked until the minoxidil but yeah!
What do you think of Home made beard oil ?
I suffer from really bad Dermatitis under my Moustache and my Chin and it makes the skin under the hair really sore and red and flaky, the only way I can control it is by using Head & Shoulders on my beard :/ otherwise I wouldn't use hair shampoo at all
Hey man can update the condition of ur beard now?
@@captainsmek4832 same problem mate, I have tried organic shampoos, going solo, oils, the whole lot. I have to use my head and shoulders daily to control it otherwise it becomes so itchy and feels like it's on fire. The worst part is under my moustache, the beard area is fine, its always that one spot on my upper lip though. Head and shoulders seems to be the only thing that works, even my doctor said dont bother with expensive shampoos such as nizoral and the likes, head and shoulders is cheaper and works just as good
@@ngliscsaxon6128 thanks for the info mate 👍
Look great Jack. My biggest mistake in the past has been lack of patience. Watching your series is inspiring
Patience is an absolute key when it comes to facial hair (and many other great things in life!)
- Jack
Oh jack even I use mild warm water to wash my beard is that help to open the pores?
I'm no longer bearded ( for now), but I would have to strongly agree with the tip on taking down the sides. I ended up with essentially what was an oversized goatee. When you're self conscious about the size of your face and cheeks, you want to create the most narrow possible cheek beard. But the issue becomes having a hugely disproportionate beard. I have lost about 20 or so pounds and plan on losing much more before I ever grow a beard again.
I believe a beard should compliment the man, not hide the man. I was growing a beard to hide my face fat! Now I want to see my face as I shed the weight. Then I may grow again. Hard part about having a beard...women don't like it! As a single guy, I may have to stay clean shaven.
I don't know what kind of women your talking about. I've deffinately gotten a lot more female attention with a beard. Just don't rock some hipster bs.
Well,I wonder who on earth told you women don't like beards.OMG!They just love it.It always kinda' helps you grab attention wherever u go.Just go for a beard and ROCK ON.❤️
Can you talk about the subject of vellus hairs for next weeks video?
Good description of easy mistakes. I was lucky my barber told me the side hairs grow down and are important to the rest of the beard. Two things, I think, about how much product: You hinted at needing less of each when you use both oil and balm, and recommend drops of oil are always, as far as I've seen, in age of beard. Fine if it is never trimmed, but I think it is more useful to convert to inches (0.5 in/mo.) and apply based on length. I'm using only Utility Balm now, but the weather is getting so hot the balm was nearly liquid the last few days. I'm thinking of using only Beard Oil instead of refrigerating the balm. What do you think?
You are so right, its better to let the side hairs grow. (i.e. sideburns and side beard) Once you make the mistake of trimming down the sides to try and elongate the beard that's when you realize its just not right.
I have used “hair” shampoo on my beard. I have went to saltwater beaches and didn’t care for it the way I should’ve. I didn’t know about all the products until I finally decided to do research. I too have also put massive amounts of product in my beard.
Sounds like we've made some similar mistakes
- Jack
Hey Jack i am 17 years old and i have a full beard about two patches by my mustache but all in all alot of coverage. Is that normal for my age? By the way my name is Casey hope you see this.
Lookin slick as always Jack. May I suggest a topic for a future Yeard Series video? How about beard oil/ balm usage frequency for summer months?
I wonder if beard oil is alright to use when the sun is out. I've heard that it can heat up to much and damage the hairs. Maybe Jack knows the answer! :-)
Great suggestion, man!
- Jack
Beardbrand 👍
Weeble985 I'm not so sure about that. Idk. I just find mine dries quicker. But, I hate to put on a whole bunch in the morning just to compensate when it may not even be necessary.
Maybe not even singling out just summer, how about all seasons? Winter you need more for the harsh winds, etc.
trimming it too often delayed the growth of my beard. Question: what soap or shampoo do you wash your beard with?
Mine is not that big but it may have reached an intermediate terminal length and the problem is, its unmanageable. Each strand has it's own mind and goes where it wants. I'm not washing every day. I'm not talking supplements. I'm using little oil of quality brand. I'm getting split ends and broken strands :(
"What is yours biggest beard mistake"
Me: Can`t grow a beard
I wish you had some stills to show us as you discuss the past. Would be nice to see photos of everything you're talking about.
one question. with beard oil and balm. i live in extreme cold weather -40C to -50C. dries out my beard. thx :D
Memphis Korz just try and keep it hydrated as possible. If you have to take a small/medium beard oil bottle with you to apply throughout the day
NEGATIVE - 50C? Jesus christ, where do you live?
I need to find out how do you know once you hit terminal length I’m 2 months in will it just keep growing or is this it?
Hi jack, when u grow a beard but still use face wash is that a good idea or does that also make it dry out? Much love
One mistake I was making last year was I was not spreading the balm in my hands before I put it in my beard. I would just try to spread these clumps of balm through my beard, and looking back, I have no clue why I thought that was a good idea. It definaley didn't distribute evenly.
Maybe because washing your hands after spreading the balm in your hands is annoying
Dan Dan nah it was just lack of experience. Besides, I actually like rubbing the excess in to my hands, hair and skin. After 5-10 minutes, your left with soft hands that aren't oily.
Nickypoo 92 Because I've noticed myself do that if I didn't have a clean cloth to wash my hands off with. For me it's just feels like wax on my hands. Not a fan
My biggest mistake was fixating about my beard growth and using too much oil and products. I found once I stopped all that my beard just took off.. JUst washed it once or twice a week...
I did the beard product mistake as well
oh crap i didn't even know that shampoo kills the beard, now i know i'm gonna stop washing my beard with shampoo for hair
When I was at school I remember the teacher telling us to mix up salt with a small amount of water then put a hot cloth over the bum fluff growing on my teenaged face, was great for my spots
Same mistakes man . Especially the hair shampoo mistake ! Thank you a lot for the video 👍
Beard looks on point in this video jack
hey thanks a lot for putting up these vids. They make me feel a lot better about the speed of growth. Im just over a month in and im dead in the awkward stage. what makes it worse is that I have very few follicles around my lower lip and edges of my mouth. I hope that itll all come together if I keep growing. same thing happened for my head hear; I wanted to grow out a long slicked back style and there was definitely an awkward, middle stage. Hopefully the same thing can be said for my beard and ill look back in two months and be happy with the result. Thanks for posting once again
Iam even facing the same problem you have been through and that is thin moustache
Looking jack I grew mine out for a year and a half I just cut 3 inches off I like it better sometimes super long does not look super great I keep it trimmed on the sides still looks full but not too bulky you got to find out what looks good on you every beard is different that is what is so good
Couldn’t have said it better myself!
- Jack
Hi Jack! will be there any time-lapse video at the end of the series?
There will be something like that, yes
- Jack
Beardbrand that's great!
Lesson learned: Use a quality product (e.g. beard oil & balm) from the get-go. It really makes a huge difference in the texture of your beard as it grows out.
What do you think about vicks vapor rub growing your beard thicker?
I've actually never heard of this trick.
- Jack
Hey jack, need some advice. I live in a very hot and dry area and we're not equipped with beard products, what can I do to protect my beard from the hot weather?!!!?
Black Beard wouldn't conditioner help?
Amanda Gaskill thanks for your advice. However,I'm from Algeria,North Africa and the kind of conditioner you have in mind may not be available here. I personally would love to use beardbrand products if they were available.
Good question man, I think it's probably nearing 100º outside here in Texas right now.
I've found that I prefer balms over oils in the super hot weather.
- Jack
I use head and shoulders on my beard all the time. Just add balm or oil afterwards.
So far I think the biggest mistake I've made with my beard was one you said about the hair shampoo or whatever and then about a month or so of doing it I saw one of theses or another beard grooming video and realised I need to start buying beard grooming products.
But how do you know if you're using too much product? I try not to use too much but also want to use enough to cover all my beard and then I obviously massage it in.
Oh, but I love having a shiny beard, and you don't necessarily need a lot to get it there. … Especially if you make your own products - I am mostly an oil guy, myself. It all depends what you are going for, bro.
Looks good bro.!! I'm a 21-year-old from India and I have been trying to grow my beard for some time. My sideburns are so weak. Even after I grew it for 8 weeks it looks awkward. So what should I do to grow more hair on my face? Currently, I'm rocking a good mustache and short trimmed version of my beard. Waiting for your advice. :) This my favorite channel for beard advice keep up the awesome work
I have had my beard for a few years. and tbh i been using normal old spice shampoo on it but the thing was i just got a beard wash and i feel as if my beard felt sofer and better with normal shampoo.
What is your opinion on using minoxidil to fill in patches?
Oh man, this is the question that always haunts me, I'll eventually make a video on this with my thoughts.
I need to do a lot more research before I say anything on this one though, personally.
- Jack
I’ve been using minox on my beard and mustache for almost 8 months I have vellus hairs filling almost all of my weak areas.
I’m debating wether I should dye my beard to make it look thicker. Do you think dying a beard is okay or should I just be patient?
I actually dyed my beard in the past, I'm not opposed to the idea.
- Jack
I dye my beard because it's grey, dark brown & light brown all at the same time which makes it look rather messy, and I do find it makes it look fuller as well!
Thank you very much for the information.
I think your beard is getting better and better the longer it gets! I did that mistanke My self using hair shampoo on the beard
Great video. Been growing mine 3 years
I self trim and I think I shave my neck too high and I want a long biker beard haha but the front of my beard curls and it annoys the shit out of me do the curls grow out when it gets beyond 3 inch’s?
This series has inspired me to grow out my mustache as an 18 year old dude
That's awesome to hear, man!
- Jack
Now your beard looks amazing
wait,what happened to Jack's eyebrow?
and great video as always
Hey my friend Jack , nice video , Why we hadn't live stream 3 days ago ?
Thanks, Sam! We actually did have a live stream from the new Beardbrand office last Tuesday.
You can watch it here: th-cam.com/video/3dDr8zBHnpk/w-d-xo.html
- Jack
How i can thicken my mustashe omg.... my beard is so thick but around the mouth area there is no hair none
You should go for a ducktail beard
I am praying that my worst beard mistake won't be cutting it because my new born baby is pulling it, and will most likely throw up on it. It's also getting into his face when he is on my chest. Which we may think it is tickling him, causing him to cry.
Would love some advice from other long beard brothers on this issue, if there is any.
Huh, now this is a situation I have not encountered (side effect of being young, I guess)
I would recommend really thinking about length in this situation.
While your baby is so young, it may be a good idea to have a shorter and tighter beard.
- Jack
i have a big beard yours is looking good so far so good
You should do a time lapse of you growling your beard.
I like how your left eyebrow has that unique, wavy-type pattern to it.
:)
It's an interesting brow, very pointy
- jack
Right eyebrow.
I haven't really made mistakes with my beard yet, there is one thing that is really bothering me about my facial hair though and I wonder if someone knows how can I fix it or if it will go away in time: I am 18 years old and my facial hair (especially mustache) is finally starting to grow. the problem is though, that about 40% of my facial hairs are very light and almost seethrough while the rest of it is black. it makes my mustache look really thin, and I wonder if this is just a timely thing and that it will get all dark eventually, or that I'm just screwed for life.
No need to worry, man.
That is just part of being younger and growing a beard. Eventually, those light hairs do get replaced by regular beard hairs.
It's not a guarantee, but this is usually what happens.
- jack
Looking good Jack
Im also growing my beard 1 month in now
My biggest mistake was washing my beard with shampoo
Hope your beard is coming in well, man!
- Jack
Nice video !! But add pictures next time. It's hard to visualize what you try to explain.
You were watching Beardbrand videos when you were a teenager? Man you're making me feel old haha! I've made a the same mistakes, but as far as beard hacks go, I've found that clarifying shampoo that i get from a salon, once a week, works pretty good. I use beard shampoo as well.
Yep! Started watching Beardbrand back when it was just videos of Eric on his couch.
- Jack
Beardbrand, please upload more videos. Thank you.
We'll keep them coming everyday!
- Jack
Beardbrand keep the yeard week videos coming, please.
What happened to your side burns and side beard growth? I thought with a yeard you would let those grow out and then they would lay down flat and add to the fullness of your yeard as time progressed?
Ohh well that sucks, he ruined his yeard…..
That stache is looking cooler and cooler!
Hello. Guilherme, from Brazil. I have one for you, Jack: could you talk about your routine after oral hygiene after every meal? Does your beard get all wet? Stained with toothpaste? How do you deal with this situation?
Oh yes, beard hygiene has become a big thing with me nowadays. Luckily, my shorter mustache doesn't catch much but my girlfriend constantly has to tell me when there's food in my beard. Maybe I'll have to make a video about this.
- Jack
Beardbrand Thanks, Jack. Simple tips about how to avoid or minimize this kind of problems. New beardsman will like it! Tks, Guilherme.
I trimed my neckline to high on one side and it was really bad I had to shave what hair I had off 3 months of care and kept trimming it with a number 2 all gone 🐻😭 nooooooooooooooo
Thanks for this video, sir
Thanks for watching, sir
- Jack
My biggest mistake was trimming off the mustache to make the beard look bigger and I realized mustache plays a bigger role to boost up the awesomeness of the facial hair... I find my mustacheless style so funny while I look back my teenage photos...
Ah man, even with a small mustache like mine, I'd never sacrifice it, personally.
Some guys can look really cool with no mustache, but I am not one of them.
- Jack
I have a weak stach. But I make sure to just let it grow with my beard.
My first thought was, "man, this guy's beard looks just like mine". And then you mentioned the mustache... I'm 31, can grow a full beautiful beard (like yourself), but my mustache is still thin with little white hairs mixed in with short regular hairs. Can I asked how/when you started seeing a fuller stache? My personal theory is that I didn't shave my mustache nearly as much as the rest of my face and that somehow stinted my growth. I haven't shaved completely in nearly 5 years, but I've grown 3 full yeards in that time and trimmed down a few times. Tips are welcome, because "let it grow" clearly isn't the answer. lol
Shaving does not improve length you need to wait. look at Greg Bersinky he had to wait till his 50s before getting a beard
I love your beard videos
Thanks, Meek!
- Jack
What’s the best thing to buy on the website if I want to keep my beard hair from puffing up? Like maybe Some type of gel but okay for beard use.
Beard "balm".
Really amazing beard in this video Jack. 👍
hey Jack nice, waht´s up with subtitles?
I know this might be personal and feel free not to answer but how old is jack?
I’m 23. (Started the Yeard series at 22)
- Jack
My worst mistake, with not so fast growth, was putting the trimmer on too much and it took a huge chunk out of my fullbeard :'(. Damn thing took me 7ish months to grow and trim. I was pretty mad at myself for letting that happen, had to take the whole thing off.
Dang, that's rough, man. I hope that didn't put you off of growing a beard in the future though!
- Jack
