  • In this video, I review the Canon RF 16mm f/2.8 STM lens. I compare it to my Canon RF 15-35mm USM f/2.8L lens. As a wedding photographer, I was looking for a lighter weight option for wide angle photography. This lens is sharp and very lightweight. It does have some distortion but that can be corrected easily. The RF 16mm 2.8 STM is an incredible lens that I highly recommend! Thanks for watching!

    If the 16mm prime was $1600-2000 I say go for the L lens. But for $300 that’s no brainer. Best review I found . Thank you 😊

    The 16mm is a great lens, I’m mainly into wildlife and so my big spend was on the RF 100-500mm, that’s what I use the most. I also carry the basic 24-105 and the 16 for landscapes and other stuff, they weigh next to nothing and the results are excellent. I could see as a wedding photographer, the L series wide zooms would earn their keep.

    • @SimonAckerman
      @SimonAckerman ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's a really useful lens that's always in the bag. My big spend was on the RF 70 - 200mm f2.8 as I shoot portraits and it's especially good for weddings. I have the EF 24 - 70mm F2.8 with adaptor for my R5 and it's tack sharp edge to edge. The 16mm is a great travel lens on the go for landscapes and cityscapes and vlogging which I'm hoping to get more into in the future.

    Really thinking of selling my RF 24-70 for the 15-35. I’ve reviewed my shots and most are shot at 24 but I too often need that wide angle for group shots in tight spaces and the 24 just doesn’t do it. I have the 16mm and it’s a great small inexpensive prime that I’ll probably keep. Thanks for the crop suggestion, that’s great info. Decisions…. Decisions. 🤔

    Hey there and thank You. I must say - I am an AMATEUR photographer, I do it as a hobby, for my own joy, not for a living, so my gear will NEVER pay for itself and I would say, that RF 50mm+16mm with like EOS RP is PERFECT trio for people like me, it’s relatively cheap, very handy, almost pocket size and You can still take some AMAZING shots with it. For me, it’s perfect setup. Honestly, with my previous, relatively bulky DSLR and zoom lens, I never really used it, because I was kinda bothered by it’s bulkiness. But this compact setup, You just stick it in Your backpack (heck or even bigger pocket), take it with You and use it, finally. It’s convenient. Also big bonus is, people on street don’t give a damn while You are doing street photography with this small camera.
    Of course I would like to go with 50mm f1.2 or 24-70 f2.0, but it would be stupid idea to spend top dollar for them, when I have no way to earn my money back.

    great review of this wonderful lens. I got one a few months back and I just shoot random things and my children, so for websize sharing the light weight of this setup feels great, plus the savings. I love using it for vlog style videos also. The only thing for me is comparing this to my cell phone in daylight landscape or wide angle photos. myself and a few friends who went on trips who brought hteir whole dslr setups, found that in daylight, the cell phone with it's ai processing does a pretty good job and decent job, where as the landscape photo if it was shot then edited, would have taken us extra time to match the ai editing of a cell phone. of course in portraits and low light anyone can tell the difference between a cell phone photo and a larger sensor with proper lighting. Which makes me sometimes wonder if my strobes or if i upgraded my strobes to work with my cell phone, would it result in similar photos to a mirrorless sensor. once again, i'm just gear lusting and should really focus on the content, especially from a ameteur that only shoots my children these days, compact and convenient is key for me, keep up the great work and love your content! forgot to mention, weight and pricewise, it's a win for my style!

    • @ShaneLongPhotography
      @ShaneLongPhotography  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Isn't it crazy how good cell phone cameras are getting?! Not just because of the lenses but because of the AI in them to analyze the scene and respond with great tones. It's giving us great images right in our pockets! But you are right, for the price and size, this lens is hard to beat! All the best!

      @ShaneLongPhotography happy to report back a year later. I tried the strobes thing with my cell phone, profoto a10 and godox v1 and a1, such a mess wasn't worth the hassle, a splash of light does wonders but with a cell phone set up it wasn't worth it. Half way through my Disney trip and I got the 28mm pancake and it wasn't wide enough for photos and videos, swap to my 16mm, photos ah perfect focal length and with the one button crop mode makes it about a 24mm pretty nice feature, as I like on camera stuff more than post processing. But I get the argument. For video with digital is it zooms in a little bit making it I guess 18mm or 20mm great for short video clips. Was pondering on the 15 35 2.8 for my next trip ib Dec for Vegas but I think I'll save the money and keep the 16mm. Going to re-watch your review again. Thanks for this video
