Electro-Harmonix Superego Plus - Daniel Fisher

- Daniel Fisher, Sweetwater’s gizmo geek, walks through the Superego+, an updated version of his all-time favorite effect pedal, the Superego. He’s using an Ibanez guitar and 5-string bass, plus a Korg MS-20 Mini analog synthesizer to show but a few of the many uses for this extraordinary pedal.
In addition to the Superego+ pedal, Daniel is using an Electro-Harmonix MEL9 Tape Replay Machine to simulate strings, flutes, and choirs, an Electro-Harmonix 8-Step Program to sequence the Pitch effect, an M-Audio Expression pedal to sweep through the built-in effects, and an Electro-Harmonix Holy Grail Neo Reverb pedal.

HELL YES!!! Thank you so much for producing this video, this is why Sweetwater is the best! My sales rep Chris asked if he could help at all when I was checking out this pedal and I told him I wanted to see another video of Daniel with the Superego Plus to see what he could do with it (after seeing the great pedals for synth video) and said he'd put in a request and BOOM here it is! this pedal is soooooooooooooooo complicated for me, have only scratched the surface so far.( well, im 83 and a learning curve is a bit steep )............having said that, im glad i bought the pedal......it keeps me occupied in my old age.thank you Danile. H6 in the UK

Putting the Mel 9 in the effects loop works amazing! Thanks for the tip.
By thinking a little "out of the box", you can have as many as 22 preset memories in the Superego Plus - two presets for each EFFECT channel. By using the EXPRESSION pedal's "SNAPSHOT" feature, a "HEEL DOWN" snapshot [1] saves the setting levels of the seven control knobs, and the "TOE DOWN" snapshot [2] will capture and save a whole different set of setting levels on the seven control knobs. It was intended as a way for the expression pedal to "SWEEP" between to different level settings on each EFFECT, but this ALSO means that you can use the expression pedal as a "HEEL DOWN" [a] and "TOE DOWN"[b] "A/B switch", to go between two different saved settings on all 11 EFFECTS which equals a total of 22 presets ..... just sayin - love being able to have some favorite settings saved in this unit!! ;-)
That bit at the end with the Korg mini sounded like the Hans Zimmer score for Interstellar. Incredible.

Thanks, Daniel. This video answered all of my questions. I'm a huge Superego fan and use the effects loop constantly. The added expression pedal on the Superego+ will up my game. I just need to squeeze it into my pedal board.

Would you recommend this for shoegaze? I'm currently using a Suzuki Qchord which isn't like any other main instrument so I'm not sure how it'd sound but I'm curious to try it out

could you have the chord on latch whilst soloing in a certain/different effect or does it always have to be the chord in effect and the lead flat with no effect. say if you latched a chord could you play the lead with a bit of reverb and drive or something or is the lead just flat all the time.
can u play/strum chords with the pitch shifter? I understand it only shifts 1 pitch unlike the slammi which I HAVE ,BUT Thats fine aslong as chords r possible

Hi! I'm looking to buy a few modulation effects pedals. Would you say this might be a good option for someone on a budget? The effects section on Superego+ seems to cover most of the usual modulation effects most people use. And how about the Worm from EHX, as well?
The Worm is a mess; huge volume drop, and mis identified features.Returned mine after a day.

uhhh me too,I'm still trying to get over buying the memory man and blurst,but what can you do ehx do provide whats needed
I connected another pedal to the right input of the superego and the left output of the superego is going to another pedal. How do i bypass the superego (turnoff) so i can just hear the pedal thats connected to the input of the superego. I click the "bypass" on the superego until i see the lights go out and the "effect" light is out but either the moment or the latch light stays on and when i turn on the other pedal it seems im still picking up sound effects from my superego.
I dont want to have to be removing the superego altogether and then reconnecting when i want to use it again. My other 2 pedals turn on and off. Just seems like i cant turn off the superego like i can with my other 2 pedals.
I have a question about using the effects loop that isn't mentioned in the manual, or on any of the demo videos. I'm afraid the answer is - No - You can't use the internal effects, if you're also using the effects loop - They are bypassed. If anyone knows that you can ; then would the effects be after the loop return, or before the send ?
The send effects come after the internal effects

Hi rss313, I still use my original Superego all the time as well. To my ears they're the same guts. If you don't need the extra effects (both have Send & Returns anyway) you can save money and space with the original Superego. Thanks for watching!

I just bought one from Chris at Sweet Water. Question: when I'm in effects mode w my expression ped all the way off, my original gtr sound isn't original...the EHX seems to change my tone and I'm not happy. Am I doing something wrong?
Hi scholasticzz, If you check the manual on page 6, you'll see that the Expression pedal was never meant to control Wet/Dry, only Attack, Decay, Rate, Depth, Threshold, Layer, and Gliss. When in Live Effects Mode, check page 8 to see what parameter is controlled for each effect. None of them is Wet/Dry. Thanks for watching!
Thx...So essentially even w/o the expression ped. when in effects mode one's sound is colored? And regardless of where the dry/effect knobs are placed?
@@RezAbbasi1 If you want to sweep from dry to wet and viceversa I understand the problem, but if you just want your uncoloured sound why don't you just switch it off and bypass it like you would do with any other pedal? 😑

The pitch setting in the effects is awesome for using on analogue synths. Acts as a sub osc and can be tuned to 5ths etc. Worth buying for that alone. I use it on my Minilogue and Monologue. Great demo btw.
