One of the secrets of Thai food is Varieties of lime The lime used in Thai cooking is the "manao phan" which has a thin peel, has a good aroma and gives a lot of juice. (manao is lime ,phan is shape round and flat a little)
It's quite far and outskirt of Bankkok. Taxi/Grab will cost 200+. 3 People or more worth it, but for solo traveler these are public transport options: Bus 4-53, From MRT Itsarapatp (West side of Itsarapap Rd) or BTS Surasak/Saint Louis Station (South side of Sathorn Rd) Bus 4-70E, From BTS Mo-Chit (East side, near BTS Depot) If you still want to go by Taxi/Grab and save some, go to MRT Lak Song then take taxi from there.
I actually found this place through retired working for you and was going to take a taxi here. But thanks to you, I will save my Baht for more food lol. Thanks!
As for me, I use curry paste to make the crab curry that you eat. -Dried chili -salt -turmeric -lemon grass -garlic -Black pepper -onion -Galangal -shrimp paste -Kaffir lime skin If it's yellow It's southern food.
Can take bus 79 from Central World to Thonburi Market Place. This A/C Bus 79 pass the Southern Bus Station. The fare is less than 25B and the journey is about 80 minutes
Been coming to Thailand for almost 25 years and never heard of this place. Will check it out in October. May be a better choice than Klong Toei. Thanks, G
Gary, would really appreciate your advice on where to learn Thai. Lessons/school/tutor. Presuming you took lessons - would you recommend them? Many thanks dude.
I’ve got a link in the video description to where I (semi) learned to read. I really enjoy Learn Thai With New for conversation (she’s just launched a course too) you can also go on an app like italki for one on one lessons online
Our driver took us there on our recent trip to Thailand. We had giant river prawns, horse shoe crab, grilled lobster and sashimi lobster, squid egg and other stuff. Sooo delicious! 😋😋😋
Hmmm.... I was really getting my hopes up for this one. Some exotic fish, some new dish.... Khao Soi, prawns and crab curry? There were snails, I give you that, but not my cup of tea really.
I know I'd like the wet market, but would still rather be at the small places on the streets. I still have hopes and intentions to get over there in the near future, but we'll see how that works out. I did find some more photos from back in '69, and I'll try to send them to you in the next few days. There are still more, but I haven't found them.
You should try moo tod Jae Jong. In the beginning she started selling fried chopped porks with rice at a low price for labours until now she is millionaires.
Hi Gary! As a Thai person, I really enjoy your videos! I mean your contents are lovely and definitely simple but also delicate at the same time. Your Thai culture knowledge has grown more and more through every day you make these videos which I quite respect you for that (You probably know about some Thai dishes better than average Thai people LOL). Keep up the good work! Ultimately, I genuinely think what you are doing is better than our government in terms of Promoting Thai Soft Power.
The crab curry looked awesome. Really nice people working there I will be over in Nov so will definitely pay a visit. Thanks Gary.🦀

Hello,
do you remember me? The coffee shop employee?☕☕
คุณกินอาหารไทยเก่งมากครับ
Yeah, I wouldn’t eat the snails without some beer or whisky to wash it down. lol (Lemon basil = ใบโหระพามะนาว)
I never saw the point of eating snails. Also escargots in France. They only ever seem to taste of whatever you dip them into. Tried often enough.
I’m with you mate, 100 percent!
