@@jackeidson7101 Actually that has never been confirmed. There has been lots of theories about why he was called "The boneless". Some say it was because he was crippled, some say it was because he was skinny, and some say it was a purely ironic name, and that he was in fact a very large, and big boned man. This is actually the most likely thing, as he has been described as that the most times in historical archives. The theory of him being a cripple was just popularized by the Vikings TV series, but you will still find many different medias depicting him as being quite normal, skinny or otherwise.
I feel like I have to tell u that the name Svein does not mean Pig. I'm guessing u are confusing it with the danish word for Pig, which is svin. The Old Norse Word for Pig is Gríss. The name Svein means "Young Man or Young Warrior", according to google. I'm personally from the Faroe Islands where the word Svein or Sveinur is still used. It means Boy or Young Man, we also used in other ways. For example the word Piparsveinur is the Faroese Word for a 30 Year old bachelor. Anyways you have one of the best history channels on youtube keep it up!
i think Sigurd "Snake-in-the-eye" was named that because he might've had a death stare. maybe he was so intimidating that when people would be gazed by him, it would seem as if he had a snake in his eye, that made him so formidable. idk just a guess tbh
You know, it's funny how we are all here thinking about all sorts of explanations to why he was called that when it reality it was probably something like : Damn what an ugly fucking eye you have there, I'll call you snake in the eye lol
"'Snake-in-the-eye' as part of Sigurd's name denoted a physical characteristic. He was born with a mark in his eye, described as the image of the Ouroboros (a snake biting its own tail)." -Wikipedia
One prevailing theory about Sigurd Snake-in-the-eye's name is a congenital condition called "iris coloboma". Essentially the pupil isn't fully formed round and is instead with "a tail" trailing out into the iris, much like a snake or even the eyes of a snake. Ivar the Boneless might have suffered from a congenital bone disease, a probable candidate for that would be "osteogenesis imperfecta" or it might even be a nickname about his manhood, although less likely... (Just my two cents as an MD, a history lover, and a Dane)
What a video! I was playing the exact same character with the same goal, but I think you can't get the Blood Eagle achievement if you load a save game. It's a bug paradox is fixing. I hope they award the achievement to those who already have the requirements, otherwise I'd have to repeat a couple of them
You big beautiful bastard Koifish, I used your link and signed up for the game pass. You could sell ice to the Eskimos, now hurry up and grab the wife and move to Australia. So I dont have to get up at 2am for your videos
@@ScamallDorcha before you go crazy on me i just want to mention that im jewish and i do this just for laughs, i think its absolutely ridiculous and besides, stop being a youtube police and let people do what they want so long as they dont hurt anybody.
Ivar the Boneless was not impotent, one-legged, flexible like a snake (in the Last Kingdom book series) or any other deformity. What happened is a classic tale of mistranslation. Irish monks wrote his name as Exosus or the Ivar the Cruel. Later Norman rulers translated this into Ex (without) Osus (bones). But it has always been Ivar the Cruel not Ivar the Boneless. Though Ivar the Boneless is a more bad ass name. Some other epic mistranslation examples. Moses was depicted with horns. In fact Michael Angell too made his Moses statue with horns. Why? Hebrew books wrote Moses face shone with the light of God. This phrase in Greek is written as his face was horned. Lol!
I started as Björn, and I am now the ruler of all of Britania... But I didn't get the achievement... I am playing iron man and achievements are enabled (I even got other achievements in the playthough)... What am I doing wrong here?
So ive pre orderd the game for console and no nothing lol ive never played but i looked on youtube and i have a question it may be dumb but from what ive seen when a war is fought for you to take the eneimes land they have to agree on it so lets say i play with another online player i kill all their troops couldnt they just not agree on demands
If you don't do these character specific achievements in one run the game wont reward the achievement. My Empire of the Danelaw didn't count because I did it in multiple sessions. Its one of the listed game bugs, It affects all the character specific achievements.
Cool fact: Mongoloids or in BR Portuguese "Mongolóide" is a word that we use to describe a really stupid/dumb person, it implies that the person have mental issues lol

Ivor the boneless actually was cripples so that is why they called him "the boneless"

This was a ridiculous amount of fun - until being burned alive 0/10 on tripadvisor would not recommend. Thanks for having me in the video my dude!
Was never expecting to see you on Koi's channel. Love your channel man.
Would not have expected this collab. Also how are you not verified on TH-cam yet?
Man, jouw video's zijn echt top!
Comb you have a good channel but your pronunciation of old norse is shit

Koifish, with access to a historian: Did the Vikings have side hoes?
Historian: Yes.
Koifish: VERY COOL!
I did not expect to see everyone's favourite Frisian here
Agh! Fellow Germanian Brothers. (I'm Dutch btw)
Koifish: "Would the Vikings go yeet?"
Chad Hilbert: "YES"
10/10 the best crossover.
I've been watching History with Hilbert for a while now and would suggest everyone watch his videos!
Cheers man!
I would like a part 2 with the historian
“Keep it in the family...as the hapsburgs said” this line killed me lmfao
*habsburg
Bruh the history commentary on top of koi's gameplay is soooo good bro, you should do this format more often!
"Keep it in the family as the Hapsburgs said"
I really love this collab. Koifish doing Koifish things - and Hilbert with his insights was truly a gift from the gods!

Nice point
I think bc he had a health condition that made his eye look weird. lol
Probably was just smarter than the average and saw tactics most didn't, possibly deceitful tactics.

The Frisians invade Koifish’s channel
Irish Insular Populists. "Seamus, Seamus get the armalite!" Year 883 CE. Jesus christ things have gotten out of hand.
The conversations between the two are quite like a Scotish Pirate who stole a Throne and Kidnapped a Smart Christian Monk to be a advisor
As a Loiner (person from Leeds) I, for one, welcome our new Viking overlords
this was amazing guys amazing to see hilbert and koifish viking around england.
I imagine snake-in-the-eyes was named so because he had an intense stare rather than ocular deformities.
The begining made me laugh because I'm litterally living in Leeds at the moment 😂
Having Hilbert was a welcome one.
Wow koi fish is pretty good at this game, should definitely do more crusader kings gameplays :D
"Yeah Leeds is a real place" *lies, deception*
Leeds is in fact a real place actually 🤓
This was an overlap that works, but I definitely didn't see it coming.
"For the Craic" - history boi is Irish I see
Oi! Now that’s an unexpected collaboration, very happy it’s happens though!
This was awesome! Any chance of having more Hilbert collabs?
I like before watching at this point
0:00 "is that an actual place
Me who lives right next to Leeds: 😪
It's amazing how much fun doing this still is, Vikings to Britannia is the best
Alba to Britannia is the best
Koifish is like a kid asking his grandad about stuff.
Today I learned that vikings really went "YEET"
This dude knows a lot. Love how he knows how to pronounce my home of Walcheren and Middelburg.
This is amazing. Both entertaining and you learn interesting stuff aswell. More like this pls :)
An absolute gem of a video! Koifish and Hilbert, name a better duo.
do more with Hilbert please! he is a nice addition with all the chaotic energy from Koi and hilbert being so calm lol

This was amazing. Hite this dude for every video.
this was so good u have to do more videos with the advisor so good
Can Koifishs new anglo-saxon advisor be a permanent feature
unexpected collab... but I love it!
This Hillbert guy is really good. I wonder if we can do history with him.
This was an amazing video!
Love that my birth town Leeds was mentioned 😅
What a video!

I like this pair, very entertaining
petition for koifish to accept that Ivar the Boneless is the coolest viking
Koifish every 5 second...
ADVISOR !!!
the isle of man got its name from the celtic sea god manannan
F for Riwal
Less talking, more raiding!
The Vikings might not have shouted "Yeet!" but they did throw axes as far as they could to claim land. So they did yeet.
The reason he’s called Sigurd “Snake-In-The-Eye” is because apparently he was born with a mark in his eye that looked like the ouroboros.
More empire total war there so funy!!!
greatest crossover of all times
