One quarry man, one mason, and two mortar makers. No wonder they haven't gotten any farther than they have. It's not made much progress since this documentary was made either. I looked it up and it looks almost the same as it does here. They started in 1997 and it was supposed to be a 25 year project and its 2022. So they didn't even get half done in 25 years. Said it was ongoing in the info i found though.

Of course, they were vaccinated against smallpox, polio, and many other things, and they also knew to boil water before drinking it, as well as many other things people at the time did not know.
Интересно, а смогли бы выжить строители в средневековье если бы свой замок, как Геделон, строили 25-30 лет? Думаю их бы просто вырезали "миролюбивые" соседи.))) Эксперимент можно считать частично проваленным - построить по тем технологиям можно, но так не строили, использовали иные технологии.
17 years and that's all they had done? They better start working harder or they won't have but half a castle in 25 years especially if that model they showed is how its supposed to be when finished. Judging by that they don't look half done yet. That's crazy they haven't gotten more done in all that time. I wonder how long it would have taken back in the 13th century to build an average size castle? I dont think it would have taken 17 years. They probably had enough people working on it and probably someone was working doing something 24 hours a day 7 days a week until it was done. Only taking time off to go to church Sunday morning. Wouldn't it be awesome to build your own castle for a home? The work involved though is astronomical which we can see in this video.
The experimental archaeologists are more interested in figuring out details and soaking in the experience than they are in actually finishing. A real medieval crew would be several times the size of the workforce we see here. Real medieval craftsmen would have squads of apprentices, and there would be hundreds of laborers. They would be working on several sections all at once. A good medieval crew could definitely have finished this project after 17 years. Also they've probably had periods when they couldn't continue because of not having funding, and stuff like that: which would not have been a thing in real medieval times.
