S1-3 Soundtracks are available on Spotify, Google Music, etc. A few playlists (unofficial) on youtube too. That particular track is "The Ocean" from S2. The entire S2 soundtrack is awesome but I would also recommend "Find God."
The acting especially because it was mentioned that it smelled absolutely awful (the locale was near a sewage plant, or something like that). Which if anything would make it make even more sense for Earth.
Wes Chatham is so good as Amos! His facial expressions, the looks in his eyes, his body language, are all just as important, if not more so, than what he says, and it translates to screen so well, that you can learn important things about his character, even when he's just in the background of the shot. He researched this role HARD and it shows ❤
When Amos was talking about bullies it looked like his personal experience. Like maybe he was one of those undocumented kids. It could explain a lot about his personality. Like sorting people into "bad people, people you follow and people you need to protect". Or how he gets switched into "violence mode" goes all out on someone. Skills he had to develop to reach the age he is now.
Bobbie seeing the ocean, man, I genuinely teared up at this. She made me appreciate what we have on Earth, it was a beautiful and powerful moment with no dialogue and a crescendo of her story arc so far. Bobbie went from resented to my most beloved character in this episode. Her scene with the guy just before it too, was also amazing. His character was maybe 90 seconds long, and yet I remember him and that scene more than most. Powerful.
Amos is a dark hero of sorts, he brutally punishes those he thinks are bullies or bad people. He immediately realized the chicken guy was a taker...a user, so he communicated in a language he could understand. Getting almost beat to death.
Bobby didn't think the gulls were drones. She grew up under a dome. Being outside in free air with no dome causes severe disorientation and vertigo for Martians.
Remember what Dresden said in season 2 episode 2 about the protomolecule? "If we master it, we can apply it... to everything. We become our own gods. Imagine: human beings able to live in hard vacuum without a suit..."
You guys put me on to this show and I thank you for that. I came to this channel for your reactions to The Boys, I watched all your Stranger Things reactions and then was looking for something to watch. Gave The Expanse a go and am now half way through season 3. This is now one of my favourite shows. Thanks.
It's amazingly beautiful when you see it from her perspective and the camera is behind her. When the camera flips around we get to see how dirty it is, still more beautiful than she could have imagined.
Gunny Draper heads for the sea because she's from the Martian sector that came from the Polynesian islands - NZ, or Samoa, Tonga, etc. No way would she go home without seeing the legendary ocean. Her dream is terraforming Mars and an ocean in the Marineris valley. I think Errinwright got a bit shook up by the sight of Eros heading for Earth. He's finally seeing Avasarala's power, so he's trying to get some insurance. I don't think I agree that Amos shows much growth yet. He's like my Aldi blender: there's low and high and off. Did you notice what the earth guy said about drugs? - the infamous chloroquine!
Holden is a little unhinged. In the books. Naomi accuses him of acting exactly like Miller. I love the one off characters in this series. There are so many good ones.
I heard "chloroquyl," actually. Still, whether malaria or some exotic virus, I have to think that with 40 billion people all living in each other's pockets, contagion would be a major concern....
I'm so envious of you guys getting to feel so confused by the Expanse. I remember when it was me getting my mind blown every second episode. Great times.
Mars testing a super weapon on both the UN and its own Marines makes sense. What better way to showcase its capabilities than by putting it up against one of your best squads and recording the results?

Im loving the character development of Bobby Draper. Also I felt so sad for Amos. His story about prostitutes and rapes and the cycle from mother to child seems very personal to him. Maybe that is what made hard and without empathy. In episode 7, you guys reacted to that scene when the boy pushed on Amos saying Leave my mom alone and he went to Cotozar and told the story of Lydia he remembered as a child. I think the Expanse doesn't dwell too much on the characters past. You are almost 2 full seasons in and we still only bits and pieces of the past of each charactor. They dont even do flashbacks. We know a lot of Holden because Chrisjen went to Holden's mom and we learned a lot about his childhood. But when you do talk about their past it is good to take mental notes on what they say in one episode and another note in another episode
The best part about The Expanse is that you don't get to learn the personal histories of each character until said character feels safe enough and comfortable enough with their surroundings to tell their stories themselves. We'll learn the Roci crew's individual backstories when they feel like telling us. It's not just realistic storytelling, it's good character design. Real people don't come with character sheets or spout soliloquies about their history 5 minutes after you meet them.
Dan_The_Burger_Man I agree with you. Nikki and Steven are probably my favorite reaction channel. I didn’t discover them until their reactions to Chernobyl and I immediately became a fan.
I really hope Alex gets a little more air time on this channel I understand why you cut him most times but the space cowboy is hillarious, absolutely makes some episodes for me :)
Mars had no problem putting their own soldiers in jeopardy to test their new weapon if they think it will help them win a war with Earth. They see their soldiers as expendable.
I greatly enjoy hearing your analysis and theories. One hint: you're mostly thinking in Star Trek, Babylon 5 and The Orville terms. All good series, but this is The Expanse and it does different.

I love it that everytime the Video starts Steven says something silly like "Screaming Firehawks" and Nikki shakes her Head. Puts a smile an my Face everytime. Love your Channel Guys
Amos was victimised as a child thats why he is this way people in real life have come up to the actor telling him how good he is playing that role and talk about there own experiance there is an interview on youtube about it
Wes was a fan of The Expanse before he was cast as Amos, and Amos was his favorite character. Also, don’t watch his interview if you’re not caught up with the show.
You are going in the right direction the Protomolecule is a technology weapon that was created by Aliens.... Earth wind up finding it and wanted to use it to their advantage against Mars or Helters but Mars probably struck a deal with Earth to get the hands on that weapon as well and test it out on the Martian military which was a setup with Bobbie and her unit ... Don't quote me on this but I think that was the situation!!!
Nikki... Remember all the tricks Chrisjen is doing... You can use them too!!! Steven... Remember all the tricks Chrisjen is doing... Don't fall for them!!!
Protomolecule meets Humans - 'Been some time I had Play-Doh... gonna have so much fun!' I think that it is so cool that people who are not deep into astronomy now know the names of moons and other objects in our solar system; dont really mean you, just people like that in general
Project Caliban. I can’t tell you what it means because it is a huge spoiler if you don’t know. It is a character in William Shakespeare’s The Tempest.
I'm just ahead of this bit in the books and it's so interesting seeing how quotes from the books are used but in different scenarios. In the books, Amos seems a little more human, and Avasarala is even more of a bad ass! Great reaction.

Steven: "This is just the start of something completely new and bigger and crazier. LET'S GO!! This is gonna be fun and exciting and just absolutely insane!" Oh Steven....you have NOOOOOO idea :)
The sequence where Bobbie walks through the slums is interesting, because it's not exactly depicting "Basic Assistance" (which is a world-spanning welfare program), but quite possibly the "undocumented class" which are people who were born illegally. They get no benefits whatsoever and have to fend for themselves. Since Basic is all voucher-based, there is likely a very vibrant gray-market economy that people engage in (like that throng of people trading stuff). So if you either can't or don't want to take advantage of Basic, your options for making a living probably end being some sort of criminal enterprise - since the government has no time or $ to spend worrying about your survival.
Really? All the stuff I've seen on the show and remember from the books suggests that Basic is universally available and those are the people on Basic. (Basic isn't necessarily enough for a good lifestyle.)
@@danieledwards3376 The best way to think about Basic is like what WIC is for mothers and young children. It's rationing of food (vouchers which limit what can be bought), housing in standardized apartments, essential non-elective healthcare, clothing and basic amenities allotments. For the tens of billions who would otherwise be unemployed and literally destitute, it's probably not a bad deal, and might be perfectly fine for anyone who lacks any strong career ambitions. However, it's literally living as the government decides in almost every aspect. If you manage to land that 1-in-5000 job, then you go off Basic until such time as you become unemployed again. It's how it has to be due to the environmental collapse, overpopulation, and complete eradication of the manual labor market due to automation. (Whether this situation could have been avoided entirely is another debate in itself.) You can always go off Basic if that's your desire; maybe you have connections outside of the official job placement service? Or perhaps you don't approve of handouts. Or it's possible you want to be entirely self-made, legal or otherwise. Of course, there are plenty of opportunities out in space. As the departed First Officer said, "Everyone on the Canterbury is running from something..."
I find Basic Assistance a challenging concept. Welfare for the vast bulk of nearly 20 billion people (with another near 20 billion living on just what they can barter or steal), paid for out of taxes. Where do the taxes come from if no one is working? Is the currency on Earth backed by anything with intrinsic value, or is it all faith-based money that pops like a soap bubble if you think about it too hard? No wonder no one on Ceres likes to be paid in Earther scrip....
A soldier on Ganymede withour a suit -- alternate explanations. I would think that Souther's replacement, Nguyen (pronounced "win") being both a warhawk and a blithering idiot, would sooner swallow the notion of a telepresence-operated robotic armature with diamond-sharp claws and ballistic armor for skin, than an alien from space. But I believe he poses an even simpler theory of his own this episode: She's nuts.
They mentioned Mei's friend Katoa several times. By this time, in this show, you should recognize a "Chekov's Gun" when they show one. I think what Amos said about men like Roma was really about his own childhood. Bobbie's intent on seeing the ocean had been well planted in the story. We saw her focused on the dream, and the wish to see an ocean was Lt Lopez' last words. So we are not surprised to see that she'd disobey orders to see the ocean. Her motivation had been planted in advance. Service to Mars was the vehicle to get to a garden on Mars. Her true dream was not the defeat of Earth...to her mind, that was just the route to a garden Mars, which was her true dream. It's not clear in the show, but months passed between the Roci team's escape from Eros and the Protomolecule experiment on Ganymede. Mao's scientists have made a lot of progress. Errinwright showed Avasarala the plan of what Mao was supposed to be doing for him (Earth), but as he said, Mao had actually made more progress than he realized.
FYI: You don't look a gift horse in the mouth because it would be rude. You can tell the age of a horse by seeing how long it's teeth are. So if someone was to give you a free horse and you looked in it's mouth, the giver might think you ungrateful or that you are questioning the value of the gift.
Reminder, the first three seasons trail the books by about six episodes. You will get a resolution in this season, but half of the second book will be covered in season three. Starting with season four the show and the books are in sync (thanks to a masterpiece in condensed writing and storytelling in season three). Maybe think of the season two finale more as a "mid-book finale".
Amos just can't help it, when he sees someone who reminds him of his past, he enters into auto mode and goes full beast, all that rage, anger and pain bottled up inside him all his life just goes into his fists. Also, you gonna love Bobbie even more this next episode
Why do I get the feeling that Nikki isn’t too fond of Amos, usually the fan favorite? If so, that would be really gutsy (!) And nice shirt, Don Steven 😁
Hey, have you guys already seen Buffy? There seem to be a few Buffy reactors right now and it's reminded me how good that show was (after the first season which was a little hit-and-miss).
S4 is like S1 -- expo / intro to everything that follows. Bobbie the film noir action hero is essentially the railgun round that finishes Shed...people get hooked instantly.
@@NikkiStevenReact Lol all I see is ep 9...not sure whats up I've refreshed it and ep 9 is the most current showing for me. No idea why. Thanks for responding though :)
Steven you are right on with your idea re the proto molecule. The use/knowledge that Mao's "project" has on it is like the equivalent of say.. a monkey banging on a keyboard.
In regards to your confusion at the end: the doctor (Dresden i think was the name) said that they could maybe make it do anything. Well in this case they weaponized it ( made a weapon out of it) and Bobby was surprised that her own goverment would test such a weapon on their own soldiers. That’s all, if i say anymore i am going into spoiler teritory :). P.S. it was called Project Caliban ;).
She doesn’t think the seagulls are drones, she’s just never seen a real bird in real flight in a real sky before.

He's from the slums of future-Baltimore (they do say "Baltimore" in the TV show, I don't remember if it was before or after this episode)
I think Amos was abused as a kid...He's mentioned pedofiles a couple times in the story line and has no mercy on people who hurt children.
@@ryanhampson673 he was effectively a child prostitute, mostly to men, since women rarely go after male prepubescents

Amos is like Holden's wilful Wookie
This is the second time Amos has brought up pedofiles, I think he was abused as a kid and the trauma has made him into what he is.
I forget exactly when but he pretty much spells out that he was trafficked as a kid.
"Wherever I goddamn like!"
here we go with another review. 10.15pm here in blighty. just time to watch this before my sleep. Brilliant.
I think you both are asking excellent questions
Aww shit this might be the best episode.
Also, you gonna love Bobbie even more this next episode
so ? is it everything you thought it would be ? Me : well , it got its ups and downs but...you cant denied the view though.
Like before watching... Bcuz these 2 can do no wrong.
😆(--- me everytime Steven calls out Firehawks!
im sorry what is that all about though?
Screaming Firehawks is the unofficial name of The Expanse fandom. It was the name Alex suggested for the Roci in season 1
Sweet summer child. You have no idea...yet.
Why do I get the feeling that Nikki isn’t too fond of Amos, usually the fan favorite?
If so, that would be really gutsy (!)
And nice shirt, Don Steven 😁
Hey, have you guys already seen Buffy? There seem to be a few Buffy reactors right now and it's reminded me how good that show was (after the first season which was a little hit-and-miss).
Really enjoyed S2..S3 blew me away~!
yes!! s4 not that good :(
@@albaviris S4 is not downhill. It's fun in its own rights.
S4 is like S1 -- expo / intro to everything that follows. Bobbie the film noir action hero is essentially the railgun round that finishes Shed...people get hooked instantly.
i mean sure. just that season 3 was sooo crazy
Awesome show, awesome reaction and discussion! You really should do Sons of Anarchy! Don't be scared of 6 seasons! GoT had 8, TWD is goin on 10!
Wait is that a fucking Helio Gracie shirt Steven? If so I have mad respect.
Its called Project Caliban. The next episode will answer a lot of your questions :)
@@ejrandler Or Shakespeare's The Tempest.
Hi guys!
Hey, are we going to get this on patreon today?
It got put up last night
@@NikkiStevenReact
I'm only seeing ep 9 on patreon.
It’s there
@@NikkiStevenReact
Lol all I see is ep 9...not sure whats up I've refreshed it and ep 9 is the most current showing for me.
No idea why.
Thanks for responding though :)
Nice, just got home from work.
same here!
Poor Amos.
Just hang in there for answers to many of your questions.
*Some people deserve to be punished!*
Did you catch what med he wanted? "Chloroquin"...
Steven you are right on with your idea re the proto molecule. The use/knowledge that Mao's "project" has on it is like the equivalent of say.. a monkey banging on a keyboard.
Hawking Screaming Fire!
The answer to the weapon is next episode. re @21:42
Steve, lean back a moment. I can't read that shirt!
It's Terence Stamp, the only possibility is 'The Zodfather'.
@@Lightningrod75 That's actually Helio Gracie, one of the founders of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. The shirt says "The Guardfather".
The Guardfather.
The project name was Caliban. Caliban is a monster in one of Shakespeare's plays.
Project Caliban.
The Children !!
Project Caliban :)
You have all the information you need to connect the dots.
