    I think what I love best of all- after your gorgeousness- is the brevity and directness of your videos. Thank you for not having 11 topics in one video and for not having endless annoying boring superfluous extraneous banter in the beginning about reasons or motivations or possible applications or whatever, like so many people do.
    Can I do something like this on my iPad also?

      @lucasmacinhome  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nice to hear! Thank you! Yes if you have Notes syncing through iCloud you can make a locked note in the same way I mention in the video. Just use the Notes app on the iPad instead of on the iPhone. Or create the locked note on your iPhone and it will sync to the iPad.

      Macinhome Mac Consulting - Apple Certified Consultants ah, and the dmg? I assume the answer is no or you would have mentioned that too. I can’t recall ever having seen a disk utility on this thing, but then I poke around so much.

    Great tip...I set all this up and works very well...is it possible to change the password, once its set up?

    The plain text hints for securing notes is great. Being an idiot I missed learnign this (and such a basic necessity it is too)

    4:20 Alternatively, instead of pressing command + i, unless I need all the extra information, I like to just press the spacebar and a little box comes up that gives me the size of the folder and the # of files in it. Press spacebar again and it disappears. Much quicker and easier; once again, unless there is a need for the extra info found with command + i.

    • @lucasmacinhome
      @lucasmacinhome  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh cool, I knew about Quicklook but never thought to use it to check folder size/count. Nice one!

    • @miamidan44
      @miamidan44 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also, if you don't have to press the spacebar with each folder. If you simply leave it open and click on other folders, you'll find the info updates automatically for each folder. You can use the directional arrows to move yourself between folders and it updates automatically and immediately (unless it is a really large folder, then it might take a long time to update). But I find this is not possible for multiple folders at once. But you can check the "get info" (the right clicking you mentioned in your video) by selecting multiple folders either with the shift key, or the command key, right click, and select "get info". There is a way to close multiple windows at once, but I forget what it is.

    • @lucasmacinhome
      @lucasmacinhome  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes cool sounds like you are in Column view in the Finder, which is command-3. And to close multiple windows at once you hold option and click the red X or you press command-option-w. :)

    how do you add files to password protected folder Mac once you've already made one?

    • @lucasmacinhome
      @lucasmacinhome  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You open the sparse bundle file (something.sparsebundle or something.dmg) and you type your password (don't click remember password in keychain) and then it appears on your Desktop as a volume you can copy stuff into almost like putting a USB stick into your Mac.

  • @alfiestrue

    • @lucasmacinhome

      Yes, if you use a sparse or sparse image and set the size to be bigger than your current data needs.

    Will this ~PW protected, partitioned secret vault~be automatically backed up in my Time Machine with everything else though? Or is it excluded due to it being an ejected disk while “hidden” ? Must it be mounted / currently in use?

    • @lucasmacinhome
      @lucasmacinhome  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It will back up via time machine as the disk image (vault) just a regular file. No it does not need to be mounted. You can do a test... leave it unmounted, run time machine, then go looking for it in your external hard drive under backups.backupdb.

    Cool. But someone can just delete the folder altogether, making your safe password protected documents subject to a terrible loss. How would you make the folder un-deletable?

    • @lucasmacinhome
      @lucasmacinhome  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep good point. You would make it undeleteable by having a secure Mac password with screen saver lock and not letting people sit down at your Mac. Also enable FileVault so if the Mac is stolen they can't get into the file system.

  • @SledGriz

    I did as instructed, but when I go to open the Vault, nothing happens?

    • @lucasmacinhome
      @lucasmacinhome  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Is it possible that it's already "open" and mounted on your Desktop? You could also see it from a Finder window on the left, under Devices. When you have opened the disk image, it acts as though you've inserted an actual disk like a hard drive or a CD. So they show up that way on the Desktop or in the Finder sidebar on the left under Devices.

    • @SledGriz
      @SledGriz 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok great, got that sorted, thanks. However, even when its closed (ejected) and I put my password in, it never opens a window like yours does. I have do to Devices to see whats in there.

    • @lucasmacinhome
      @lucasmacinhome  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Next then is look in your Finder preferences. Go to Finder, then the Finder menu in the top left, then Preferences. Under General where it says "show these items on the Desktop" do you have Hard disks and external disks turned on?

      Done everything - twice !
      Container folder came out in 'other file names' , eg CCleaner. and nothing would load into container. It would just spring out when attempting to drag & drop..
      Ive dropped the empty drive into the trash twice now. Wether lots of Mb still inhabit my hard drive I have no idea, or did the disk volume go into the trash?

    how SAFE is the NOTE app on Mac?
    Ive heard it's not safe for credit cards and all

    • @lucasmacinhome
      @lucasmacinhome  ปีที่แล้ว

      The question is "safe from what". If your spouse knows your iPhone passcode then they can get into your Notes easily. If someone tries to log in to your iCloud and look at your iCloud Notes, they would need to know your iCloud password and you would need to give them the 6 digit two-factor authentication code. If someone malicious has your phone and the passcode to your phone then yeah they can get into your notes but if that's happening then you have bigger problems on your hands...

    Hi can you lock applications as well?

    • @lucasmacinhome
      @lucasmacinhome  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tell me a bit more... which Application, and lock it how? You can't really do that with just an application, but there are ways to prevent them from opening, or locking/securing the info that is displayed, depending on the app.

    • @shilcrypto1329
      @shilcrypto1329 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Macinhome Mac Consulting - Apple Certified Consultants - such as autocad etc, I have since found an application called ilock which can lock applications, have you tried it before?

    • @lucasmacinhome
      @lucasmacinhome  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have not tried that... I would still ask what is the goal? Why do you want to lock AutoCAD? There might be a better, easier way to achieve the goal.

    • @shilcrypto1329
      @shilcrypto1329 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Macinhome Mac Consulting - Apple Certified Consultants - to prevent others who have access to my computer from altering the settings, which is a very time consuming process as you may know autocad is not the most friendly cad software. I am not sure how safe is ilock

    • @lucasmacinhome
      @lucasmacinhome  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Never tried iLock... I think the thing to be looking into is whether you can lock the preferences or plist file, or maybe make a regular backup/clone of the plist file that you can restore at any time. If you want settings in an app to never change, that's more about settings not the app. You can usually find those in Home/Library/Preferences but I don't know where AutoCAD in particular stores its profile and settings.

      Yes that's true, but I would never leave a secure disk image open / mounted on my Mac when someone else gets onto it. It would be like the vault in your home, leaving the door open when someone comes to your home. Of course they could just go into it and take stuff.
