Two words, David Burns, now that's a Master Beekeeper worth listening to. He also has an online school.

I use corn syrup instead of sugar syrup. It keeps the pattie softer because once the pattie hardens they will not touch it. Lots of ways of doing things and if the bees eat it faster than it can harden maybe your ok. Just an idea you may want to try.

I add some oil, in Australia we have a dry climate and it dries up to a cookie in a day without it

    Couple of questions:
Where do you buy the pollen used for this?
I might have missed it, but when you put the patties in the hive, do you just put the wax bag in with it, or do you take the patty out and toss the bag? (Could one use paper sandwich bags instead of wax paper?)
Just to confirm, the sugar syrup used was 2:1, the same concentration for autumn feeding?

I buy pollen substitute in 50lb bags from my suppliers. I sell it dry in smaller 8oz bags, or as patties. Yes the bag is waxed paper and the bees eat through it.

Mannlake makes it. If you can withstand buying from them its good pollen sub.
