  • Podocarpus macrophyllus also know as Southern yew is a great shrub for fencing but it has some disease that cause Dieback (Botryodiplodia, Botryosphaeria, Phoma, Phomopsis spp.) or Fusarium Wilt (Fusarium oxysporum) so naturally home owners that have experienced this are alarmed when something happens that looks like disease. www.naturepest...

Thanks for this info. I live in a tropical climate and have two podocarpus plants in pots.they have never been cut but lately the leaves have been getting really brown. I've read before that this could be because of excessive wetting so I've eased up but its still bad.

New growth is not developed yet it’s just the way the plant is it will develop and be dark green if that doesn’t happen then there could be other problems

Thank you, very good info! It's such a noble, good looking hedge!
Can we re-plant cuttings on dirt and make a new plant? Any tips on that?

I have 10, 20-30 feet tall weeping podocarpus trees that are a privacy hedge to my property. They have what looks like scale and have been dropping leaves for about a year, but now it has reached a point where there is massive continual leaf droppage. The trees can be seen through and are rapidly declining. I have sprayed (and had professionals spray) for what I am told is scale, but the decline continues, and I am afraid that I will lose the trees. You simply wouldn't bel;ieve the amount of daily, actually hourly droppage.
I saw your video, and while I enjoyed it, it doesn't really address my problem. I would very much appreciate your thoughts.

Hello. Some of the branches on mine are turning brown. Just the leaves, the branch looks healthy on a healthy plant. Do I cut those off?

I live in Florida and planted a Podocarpus hedge using two-foot tall plants. For the first few months, keep them watered as needed. After that, they get watered whenever the lawn sprinklers are on which is twice per week during the summer and once per week during the winter. Six years later, the hedge is about eight feet tall now.

my podocarpus has what looks like cobwebs all thru them what causes this and how do I treat it.

Cobwebs are there becouse spiders are there because pest are there. If it bothers you can spray the shrubs with Easentria IC3 natural to control both pests.
