    shaped my first board over the summer and this explains why i feel i need to keep weight on the front foot to keep the board balanced, had the deepest point of the concave far to far forward. Thought it might have been just too much volume up front and not wide enough tail but you have given a brilliant explanaiton of concave design and its relation to the other design elements in the board, infromation i have not been able to find for else where. Would be great to see more videos with Andy, and will be using the advice for the board im gonna make over chirstmas

    Wow. There's a lot involved in the board geometry. It's fascinating how each detail will affect the surfer or how he/she can surf with it. Keep on.

      Yes Trexinvert ! So many design factors in each board , and so many combinations of design features that can effect how a surfboard performs for each surfer , it’s endless ! That’s what makes it so interesting for me even after 30 years working on surfboards , as there is still more to learn and try , I learn something new every day with surfboard design .

    This was super helpful! I definitely wish I had watched this video (and the others) before I had purchased my latest board. At least now, I understand why it has certain deficiencies in certain surf. Keep it up! Mahalo!!

    can you do types of fun setups and there benefits like single fins, thrusters, etc

    Faster moving water is at a lower pressure due to the Bernoulli Effect. This creates suction rather than lift. It's why concave helps lock rails into faces.

    The numbers never lie. If you want a good rocker you need to have the correct curve through the board. The tip of tail and nose is not the b all and end all. The rocker a foot from the nose and tail is more critical. Vee slows a board down . if you gave a pro surfer a board with vee he would throw it in a skip. Of course if its a gun thats a different story.....

  • @kevintyrer45
    @kevintyrer45 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great info. So if you lay the board on a flat table or a straight edge nose to tail. More or less on a general wave and a wave like Supers jbay... How big should your flat spot be on each board, for each type conditions?

    Concave in the nose creates drag while padding.unless that concave has the proper blend.
