Being a photographer who likes to visit national parks, I've always wanted to "invest" in one of these small trailers (I don't need much space) so I can just stay in the parks regardless of if it rains or not (for now I've been staying in hotels, which gets costly over time and usually means you have at least a 20 minute drive each morning, and usually more depending on the park and where you want to go (it would be nice to just park in one of the parking lots at one of the viewpoints at some of the parks). The only thing I noticed is that these types (in some cases) cost nearly as much as a regular, say, 24 ft model. I would think that a simpler design would mean a cheaper price, but that's not always the case it seems. I think the cheapest I've seen ones like this (not this particular brand/models) is about $10,000 new. Heck, even the teardrop shaped campers are $10,000. Thanks for the overview though. ONe of these days I'll get one. I'm sure after a few years of use, it would pay for itself versus hotel stays at an average of $70 per night.

Rusty, build you a bed across the rear using your trifold mattress leaving you some sitting area replace the table with a small one say about 30 inch in diameter and you would have everything that you need. Give it serious thought and go with your gut feeling. Remember regardless of what you purchase it can be sold at close to the purchase price within a year. Time for a discussion with Casper.

There is something to be said about smaller RV's. We had a 35ft 5th wheel and holy smoke was it tall. Had a loft over the garage and a single slide out with bed/shower/ toilet up stairs in the front. We did full time in it for a few years. But then we decided to upgrade while downsizing...so with the huge 3500 dually (RAM) I have we decided on a truck camper. Life is so much simpler now. We have ALL the amenities we had in the big trailer. Dry bath and toilet, TV w/ sat. AC, a full side slide out and lots of storage. We were amazed..and the bonus ? Don't need to worry about wheeling that long trailer around and wondering if it will fit. Not only that but 6 less tires we need to worry about and maintain. I could see owning one of these little trailers..if it has a winter package and 4 seasoned. Mama could pull that around in her 1500 with no problem.

    • @HailRider

You know what these small trailers remind me of ? Back in 2013 we were were looking for a trailer in Yuma, AZ for our travel to the north and on base there was an old 1967 Commodore. Pretty snazzy for the period of the 60's. It had a toilet and shower, kitchen and table. I was really considering it to rehab it and bring it back to its old glory. The guy only wanted 200 dollars for it! I should have bought it and fixed it up...I think it would have been a great flip right about now!

If I was by myself, this would work. I just sold my 5th wheel and truck to pull it with, I loved the 5th wheel, but set up was a real pain. I am 72 as well, I do not travel that far, I have owned two RV's a 34 foot Class A motorhome, used it 3 times and sold it for what I paid for it, my 5th wheel I used a lot but it had its drawbacks.

Tilted my awning down 45 degrees so the water would run off during a heavy rain. Water did not drain off but accumulated behind the roller until nearly 100 gallons accumulated and broke the roller in half. Anyone else have that problem. Won't ever have another camper with an awning or rubber roof. Probably won't ever buy another camper after the problems l have had. First year l had it, it spent more time at the dealer than it did at my house. Dealer made many promises for repairs, but damaged more than they fixed and did not honor the "Return if not satisfied" guarantee.

Hello Rusty, I like the fiberglass - also, nice utilization of space in a compact unit. If it was just two feet longer with a separate dinette and bed, it would be almost perfect for extended traveling or even full-timing. I wish all travel trailers under 20 ft.in length had the option of a smaller wall A/C...they are more energy efficient with less noise. Maybe you'll see other new units at the upcoming RV show that will fit your needs.

I believe that most RV's could be retrofitted with a wall mount a/c by any reasonably competent RV tech, carpenter, or handy DIY'er . I just may do this to my 19 foot Aljo whenever the rooftop a/c gives up the ghost.

    • @janedelaney7
      @janedelaney7 7 ปีที่แล้ว

Seems like a good plan...I'm still hoping to find the unit I'm interested in for sale without the a/c. A few of the RV dealers in the west have one or two in their inventory. I will be traveling with the weather, so having a Maxx or Fantastic fan would work nicely.

Still think you will be better off with the other one to live in, and camp with. This is a nice unit though.
Our RV just has 2 swivel rocker/recliners in the back instead of a dinette. We have a 3/4 bed that comes down over the recliners after putting them in the recline position. 4'x4' window in the back and 2- 3'x4' high windows on the sides. Bed frame sits on a redwood ledge built in the wall along the back and 2 sides 26" off the floor. A 32" shower stall with glass enclosure, a composting toilet in a separate room with a small window. Small kitchenette, no gas stove built in, just 30" counter and sink, 12v refrig below with 9" drawers along side. 30" 2 door cabinet above. We carry a small 1 burner gas camp stove and an induction plate. If the weather is good we cook on a fire ring and a dutch oven, cowboy style. The RV is 16' long bumper to bumper, lightweight, all aluminum body, 1965 Grumman-Olsen Kurb-Van motorhome. Original 250-6 Chevy motor, automatic transmission. Gutted and rebuilt from the ground up using S-10 running gear mounted to the original frame, air bagged the rear axle. We carry 40 gallons of water, 10 gal grey tank. 4 gallon solar hot water box heater/tank plumbed gravity to shower and sink along with 3-100 watt flexible solar panels, mounted on the roof. 2 batteries tied to 2 panels and the other isolated, used to start the RV and used as a house battery too. We carry a jump start battery/charger/tire inflator kit. We also have a heavy duty engine alternator that charges when on the road. We have an 8' manual canopy. All lights are LED. We went to Long Beach California and up to the Canadian border on I-5 and back on 101 along the Pacific coast in 2015. No extended trips this last year, 2 cataract surgeries, 1 in June, 1 a month ago, yesterday was the last of the eye drops. I retired at 55 on PERS, 61 now....James

If you consider used as an option check out the Avenger 14 RB, model no longer being built. One more thing, I am always leary of the side mount A/C units. The tray holds condensation, and when you move it can slosh in RV. Also how well does rain stay out is my fear on side mount A/C units.

This is a nice unit. I like this for a camper. I think I would prefer a motorhome, but this is nice. Thanks for sharing. Stay safe and happy trails.

Suggestion: search YT for the sweet young family that purchased a NEW Keystone trailer; the frame bent on on one trip, and the leaf spring broke later on. Warranty did not help; manufacturer was unconcerned. Lightweight trailers are light for a reason!

WE bought one from Motorsports in McAlester OK, in June and found out the water tank was leaking. So we took it back and the KZ warranty is worthless for our savings of 15K is gone and they will not fix it. It was brand new so we thought there would be nothing wrong with it. But surprise when I asked if they would fix it like they said when we bought it, They said if anything is wrong just bring it back. That was several months ago and I asked if it was fixed yet and the manager "Linda" started screaming at me for calling. I was like what is happening. So be careful who you buy one from.

When will the RV industry realize that if they designed these small campers to accommodate 1 person - they would sell like hotcakes. There are many thousands of men and women who have a need for a small, affordable camper which sleeps 1person. Not 19.
Put a twin size bed with a good mattress - and use the extra space for a full size refrigerator and a larger bathroom and more kitchen counter space --- and I personally know hundreds of traveling construction workers who would buy one tomorrow.

Yeah that's what I noticed. For $14k, you could buy a bigger trailer. You'd expect the smaller ones to be at least a little cheaper (like the $10,000 range but that doesn't seem to be the case). Even the teardrop campers cost $10,000+ new.

Price doesn’t go by size it goes by quality. Look at the price of a the airstream Bambi’s that are 40k plus and then look at the common fifth wheel brand new 30-40k

roven 08 All campers on the market are scams in my opinion, but I’m like most and still love them. I repair what goes wrong and replace as much as I can with stuff that’s durable I just would never want to travel with some homemade back yard built cargo turned camper.

My only gripe is the AC location. It really should be top center on the back wall above the rear window rather than the sidewall above the seating area. It would not only look better there but also would not get in the way of a tall persons head when seated.
