As a person of Asian descent, this movie was so meaningful to me to see the representation of an Asian culture , Chinese Culture, be brought to the big screen with actual care and consideration. Plus and all Asian Cast! Love! This movie makes me so happy and has high hopes for representation for all cultures and ethnic backgrounds in Hollywood.
@Chloe Han so, when the movie is based on an actual Chinese story, however through American eyes, we can clearly see how Americans focus on what they feel "Asian" actually is, you feel this is a proper betrayal of who we are? I want you to take a closer look at the movie, and observe how ping pong,and other stereotypes are being utilized in the movie. Rocket ships that fire fireworks out of their ass rather than utilizing plasma or rocket propulsion which would imply that we Asian people actually know how to progress into the future... this movie influences children to assume how us Asian people think or are. none of us are actually Americanized, or what some people call white washed and do not act anything like this. Not only that, mainland Asian peoples do not act like this or look like this at all, meaning and as a result that Americans have a very offsetperception of this, and this movie reflects that one hundred percent. The original story was butchered quite a bit, and the director of the movie was straight up Caucasian American who was known for the little mermaid and a bunch of other movies which traumatize the crap out of children during the 80s and 90s. If you look at the facial expressions of the character who was singing in the ultra luminaryscene, you can observe this b**** attitude face, that we often see Disney slap onto every character, which actually, this comes from American women throwing this egotistic attitude / smirk when they're in a model/Superstar position. The fact that they applied this to a supposedly culturallysensitive film, means and ultimately proves that this film was made from an American perspective of what US Asian people are. Therefore being completely insensitive and completely butchering our image, and ultimately implying that we are a minority when in truth, your only minority if you feel like one in this country. This is the reason why us Asian American people were Asian peoples progressed far more than many others who believe that they are actually minorities. It's all about the way that you think, and if Disney cannot understand how races do not all think the same way as westerners, then I've made my point.

Every time I watch this movie..it gets to me, it makes me cry so much. The song it ends with always makes me cry, this movie has a very strong lesson, love new people. This movie is so beautiful and it makes me feel so happy, I never dealed with any of this but I know fei fei felt really sad, even the way she acted when Mrs.zhong gave her a moon cake
I watched this movie after we put my cat to sleep on Sunday and it was so helpful and really helped lift my spirits that evening I so needed this movie I loved it so much nothing but five stars from me I loved the mix of music art and culture it was so amazing since I love history and art as well as music when introduced into movies in this way I think this is my favorite 2020 movie so far
Over the Moon to me is a feeling that there is a place that we never seen before and when we think it to our minds , it reminds us that there are more places to go in the next future. china will develope the country a better place to live and also more people will come back to china again and when we think about the next genaration we can develope cultures and country`s to stand as a big unity of mother earth , and there is more to learn not just tomorrow when we go forward when we go to the next genaration we can think better than before, so thats what i can talk about Over the Moon.

It’s actually a very normal reaction. Especially losing her mom, and seeing this new figure that was in a way doing the things her mom used to do, making her feel like her mom is being replaced. Also, she was unaware of the engagement/marriage, so that makes it even worse. Imagine not being able to get to know someone, but have them come into your life and be a part of your family knowing that the marriage was not discussed with you. I’d have to say, i really disagree with Fei Fei’s dad because when it comes to remarriage, you must go through the relationship with your child and let them know before you actually decide to get married. Sure she is a good person, but a child has a lot of emotions and must be involved with the marriage because it’s a part of their life and not only the parent’s life.
Seriously Hollywood has soooo many Chinese American actors who can speak Chinese fluently and they cast mostly Korean American. Why don't ya just used the Korean version of the story than the Chinese version one? And the whole story line sounds so whitewashed too. Please do more homework.
Well the original mythology of it came from China so I have to disagree with that part. It's best to keep things as original. And I also have to agree that even though Phillipa Soo has such an amazing voice (I'm a musical fan myself), I still have to think I'm disappointed that rather have a Chinese actress, they instead chose someone who doesn't have an ounce of Chinese lineage.
With her beautiful voice.. She was able to sing in Mandarin with no trouble..?why in the hell, does everybody applauded this movie, when it is clearly utilizing cultural appropriation and stereotyping us Asian people, from a total Disney perspective? the facial expressions of the characters, were completely Americanized, ping pong paddles that look like hand fans? high-heeled boots that sexualize the character and make them look like 2nd or 3rd generation Asian people who are constantly sexualized in Hollywood? This movie was cultural appropriation based and racist. you took a story that was made a long time ago, and you Americanized it andportrayed what non-asian people perceive of what actual Asian people are or should be like. Mulan was the same way.all the movies reflect how Americans receive us Asian people, and these movies influence how children see Asian people as well. There is nothing nice about this movie. you just trying to teach us Asian people, that you're giving us something good, but in reality you're just spitting on us.

With all the Asian hate crimes it was uplifting to see a movie with my 2 year old and imagine that her upbringing will have less racism than other’s.
