- Croatia Island Day Trip In this episode we begin our Island Hoping experience right here in Croatia. After leaving Dubrovnik we head to Mljet Island and we take a bike ride around the beautiful national park.
Croatia is such an amazing country with stunning scenery and Mljet Island is definitely worth a visit.

Doing an Explorer Cruise in August, did you feel like you had plenty of time to explore once the boat hit the port? Could people take ubers/taxi's once on the island if they wanted to go to a spot a bit farther than just a walk from town? I'd like to explore some places on Mljet and Vis, but walking would be too far. Thanks!

But i think you missed the whole point of the lakes.
They are salt lakes, not fresh ones, as they are connected to the sea. The big one by the canal under the bridge that you pushed your bikes across, and the smaller lake by another canal is conected to the big lake. (I am sure you where told this, or figured it yourselfs).
However, the magic happens in the canals during the tide change. As you have high tide comming in, the water level of the sea becomes higher then the level of water in the lakes, so water starts to rush in, slow at first, then like a flood. Then the tide changes and water starts going out. The canals (small one especialy) are quite a dynamic place, as the water flow changes 4 times a day, and are excelent place to try to swim agaist the current, or just flow with it into the big lake, or the small one, depending on the direction.
It looks like you missed it because you were there inbetween the tides. :(

Yes it seemed expensive to us too, we tried to make the most of it with the bike ride and lovely swim. We have definitely paid less for entrance to national parks in other countries for sure.
