It was a wedding gift given to Leonard and Penny that they didn’t want to keep and they couldn’t figure out what to give Sheldon and Amy so they just handed over that as the wedding gift to get rid of it. If you watched the show you’d already know that.

At school. in Chemistry . I won't say how long ago, a long time, amongst the various glass flask stoppers, there was one which was shaped very much like this amongst all the regular ones.
Never did find out why7 it was different.
