    Scarrus Quoyi is reefsafe, however there are several other not reef safe species which are being imported as Scarrus Quoyi as difference is almost unnoticeable (and this comes from someone who is importing fish for a living)

    You’ve only got to take one look at those gnashers to know it’s risky!

    I have a princess parrot fish and she is so sweet that despite what is told she does not touch my coral. Not that she cant or maybe wont eventually but 4 months into her being upgraded into our reef tank (it was our largest tank and already established as a reef tank, she out grew her old one) sometimes you get lucky with some parrots. My opal is my favorite fish, she is my favorite type of fish too.

    I've had one for over 3 years and have never had an issue. Never touched any of my sps or any other coral . I think you must of been unlucky, don't be put off from this fish, they are fan characters for your tank. Definitely worth having

    I do have a parrotfish (it's like a tan and reddish coloration and I forgot the name) and she has been a model citizen and a great asset to my tank as I had a huge mess of diatoms and she, along with my two bristletooth tangs and Scopas, devoured the whole mess in a whole day upon arrival. I don't have corals as I am a beginner but she loves her herbivore pellets and her algae so I just make sure to supplement her grazing with the pellets so she doesn't starve to death.

    My local reef supplier has several swimming in his sps tanks and he says he never seen any touching or nibbling coral, he also has them is his display (mixed reef tank). So could well be bad luck. Also he feeds them fresh schrimp mix so multiple times a day, maybe thats a difference? Anyways a shame it wasn’t a succes mate!

    One of my LFS’ has had some of these parrot fish available and also says they are reef safe but not worth the risk unfortunately in a reef.
    Now if I ever move and “have” to upgrade again… I’m 100% gonna do an upstairs FOWLR for fish like this.. like 300g plumbed into an even bigger reef tank in the basement. Wife better let me stay where I am or she’ll not be happy lol 😆

    NOT true that quoyi always hurts corals - probably it could but not always - my Quoyi does NOT touch any corals.
    They do like learning rocks and need to provide them enough swim space (6 foot or longer tank) with rocks which they can scrap.

    Your wrasse collection is amazing. Could that purple wrasse be added to a yellow coris? Or should they be added together? I already have a yellow coris so...

    • @ReefDork
      @ReefDork  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a yellow wrasse too, plus a silver belly. The radiant wrasse is fine with all of them 🙂

  • @ArrickthaRed

    This fish is definitely not reef safe at all not even with caution. Parrot fish eat coral and poop sand. When you go to the beach and play in the sand... yes that is Parrot fish poop. Do not get it in your mouth lol.
